As a pc gamer, I am extremely jelly, not gonna lie. Wish Blockbuster was still around so I could rent a PS4.
Also, the fact that Nioh has an "action mode" that scales back shadows/environmental detail in exchange for 60fps is incredibly cool, and surprising as hell coming from Koei Tecmo (who are notorious for awful pc ports.)

I'm really enjoying it, though. It feels like it's distinctly its own thing, but there's little bits of influence from Souls, Onimusha, Ninja Gaiden, Way of the Samurai and even Genji.

Okay, beat the first level and quite a bit of the second so here are my honest impressions:
Was sincerely worried that the stamina bar was going to be as badly implemented as it is in Dark Souls (hammer away and walk around for a few seconds) but with KI regen moves (switching stances, evading at the right time) basically means there's no fucking downtime in the middle of a fight, much better.
KI does serve a purpose though, and normally to your benefit.
Stances are fucking radical. Actually having crowd control instead of "only the guy you're locked onto can fight you" places it far above Way of the Samurai in that regard. The combo variety is less radical, handful of moves for each stance and your combos are basically all light, light, light, heavy, unless you switch stances or use an item.
Hope full game lets you respec. Threw a bunch of Samurai Points into spear before I got the first axe and boy did that sell me.
The "dead voicing their last words" to tell the story is pretty novel, the fucking stories themselves aren't. First level had about 15 different variations of "we were killed by bandits".
There's no shields but blocking gives you 100% invuln anyway, which is fine.
The randomly generated loot SUCKS, for exactly the same reasons it sucked ass in Darksiders 2. There's no point for it, just give the goddamn sets. The mission screen is also pretty damn lame, I hope they at least have a hubworld in the full game.
William as a character doesn't have any dialogue or lines in the beta, so no comment there.
Overall, great game. Wouldn't actually call it a Dark Souls clone. Just a good aRPG in its own right.
The menus in this game are a million times easier to navigate then any of the Souls games.

It's pretty easy to solo him, but it's also super fun to see how bad people get destroyed by his lightning strikes.
On a side note, boss HP definitely scales in coop, but not damage. Nue seemingly has at least quadruple his normal HP, which might be a bit overkill.

Yeah, you'll get a shit ton in the second mission, but most are bad. The first time you beat Nue, you'll get a level 43 unique lightning katana, and repeat kills give a level 43 unique water spear. No way to get a level 40+ axe/hammer, it seems.

Demon's Souls was originally influenced by Onimusha. Team Ninja have cited both Onimusha 2 and DeS as heavy influences on the current version of Nioh, so I don't really see the problem people are having with them wearing their influences on their sleeve. The game's far from a outright clone of either like Lords of the Fallen was with Souls.

It plays nothing like Ominusha because it isn't based on dodging like you would in a souls game. It has more counter type parrying and isn't very deep.
Look at an estus chug animation, then look at the healing animation for Nioh, look at the bosses, they move the exact same way and you dodge in the exact same way you would in a souls game. I'm excited for this game, but honestly it will just be another souls game, From literally made a new genre.

Fun game, definetly souls like, though it does enough different to stand on its own. I especially like that you can actually summon other players' phantoms to kill them for more experience. They're harder to beat as well.
It's what souls SHOULD have been imo. Then again i'm dickriding the samurai style. The combat has actual weight and feels visceral, and aside from one bullshit moment in the boss fight, nothing happened that i wouldn't deem justified or careless by me. Enemies really are an encounter by themselves, especially if you're not paying attention.

I cant get past those white garb bandits up near the burning buildings.
I can whittle them down to 2 but then both of them jump me, the fucker with the spear and the one with the axe and they both fuck me up.
I can evade more than 2x and hit them without exhausting myself and they are both relentless.

Yeah the 1st stage from the start you head towards the burning village and go up the hill towards the big dude with the no-dachi then when you go to enter the gateway there are 4 bandits but those bandits wear white kimono things and they are way harder to kill than the usual bandits.

You can draw aggro the spear dude up front, then head around to the left and headshot one of the mooks, then it's just the big nigger you can't headshot that you need to impale.

Do you have the bow yet? Following the main path instead of turning right to go up the hill towards those guys head left into the forest. A couple guys will drop their bow and some arrows.
