>people keep harping on about multiplayer

holy FUCK that's NOT what the game is about when will you idiots get that through your fucking skulls? it's about an experience where you can do literally anything your mind wants

it's about the journey not the destination, look up the dev interviews ffs
>>
Fuck multiplayer. Just what I wanted: /v/ faggots and underage shitting up the game with memes and faggotry. Singleplayer will always be superior. I don't need social bullshit in my games.

Why do you keep doing this to yourself?

they are equal as it stands, No Man Sky has not been released, and that is when Spore was actually found to be a giant trap.

I would Say No Man's Sky could get up to the JUST levels of Maxis when they dropped spore down that 11 flights of stairs and picked up like normal.

But really Spore was the master Flop, The whale to drown men's dreams.

I think it's pretty great though. Last good game I ever played was the guitar.

You can do "literally anything" that was programmed into the game as a thing for players to do.

It's cool that they've managed to make a generator that produces playable, supposedly interesting dynamic environments.

>>
>>334976434
procedural generation has a flaw. sure it may produce a large amount of orders, but they will always be limited by the amount of seeds. it won't take very long for a regular player to see these seeds (like structures, weather, etc). the whole point of exploration in space is to find intelligent life, so unless there's other civilizations to find or other players, it's going to get boring very fast.

not to mention the bullshit with the psychic anti fun police robots. if we can do anything, then why the fuck can i not turn a mineral rich planet into a desolate wasteland so i can line my pockets with whatever shit they call money?
>>

>>
>>334980542
>>334980567
I'm specifically asking where someone affiliated with the game said "you can do anything". From what I've seen they've basically been the opposite, only confirming a few features at a time.

>>
>>334981172
>"You can do anything" caught on about 4 years ago where it was quoted from Peter Molyneux around the launch of Fable 3.
It really caught on much earlier than that, with the hype of the first Fable.
>>
>>334981172
Right, yeah, but why is it being applied to this game.
>>
>>334980547
But the environments of Space Engine don't look like dogshit and it's free.
>>
>>334980086
Hahaha
>>
>>334980862
which brings us back to the bullshit system in the first place. if i'm exploring unexplored planets, then why does it have robot police around it? also, how the hell do they even know how much i'm mining? third, why the hell are they even there in the first place?

it makes sense to have cops in GTA, cause actual crimes get committed. the problem was those fuckers had ESP and knew the exact second you did anything, anywhere. hell even just standing around caused them to appear, because random civilians don't like you.

so all i'm seeing is this is an even shittier version of that. how is that good?
>>
>>334980856
Procedurally generated worlds can be interesting. But the emphasis is on "can." If you rely on nothing but randomness, then you're going to have a lot of boring places with a few interesting occurrences here and there.

Like Minecraft's seeded worlds. Usually, it was just hills and canyons, plains and mountains, but every once in awhile you'd get these incredibly complex places to explore.

I do not expect this from No Man's Sky.

It's unexplored by the human race, not space aliens, and not every planet or system will have space cop presence.

>Although he's been known to spouting gold like that since the first Fable.

Read, nigger.

>>334981253

Because it's a fucking meme you dip.

But for real, it's synonymous to games where the devs are essentially hacks who would rather spend their time fueling the hypetrain rather than actually spend time developing meaningful features and content into their games.

>>
>>334981429

Also it wouldn't have "caught on" back in 2004 anyway because /v/ didn't exist back then.

Fable was only talked about back when the PC version Fable Anniversary came out and they let you have the option of being the patron and later owner of a PC-exclusive brothel. This would have been around 2007.

Old TES games were procedurally generated, skyrim's world and its NPCs were designed by the developers so they wouldn't be dull and repetitive.

And if you try and make -- what we would consider -- really significant [changes], some of those [changes] are stored on the server, along with the discoveries that you make. But in general, a lot of what you’re doing is considered insignificant. It would take 5 billion years to find someone who could stomach such empty lacking content long enough to discover more than 50 planets.

People honest to god think that planets will be unique. They simply don't understand how games are made or designed, let alone the problem with procedural generation. There will be repeated anomalies and other things to make it not seem as varied while also just being a different paintjob each time. I doubt they'd have more than MAYBE 40 animals and i'm being generous. The only way to successfully create endless content is if you let players make the content for you, even then it has flaws. Jesus christ these people are the worst, most gullible and pathetic sheep lorded over by marketers.

I can't wait for the game to suddenly disapear off the radar after the first month like evolve. Fuck these developers, they need to be shot. The only thing that could redeem it is an X like space gameplay in terms of questing and economy.

I don't understand how the robot space police are supposed to work in a survival game. Yeah, nah. If the game doesn't have multiplayer I'm definitely going to pirate it. The only reason I partly enjoyed Starbound was because I could play with my friends, and that arguably has a lot of what this game seems to be advertising, if in a much more simple format. The experience stops being "unique" two hours in. And unless they have some ungodly padding keeping you from leaving or reaching planets for some obscene amount of time, it's going to happen in No Man's Sky as well. The scope is too big to not have been stretched too thin.

Meme comedy isnt comedy that work gets put into in any sort of serious fashion. Its more based around an idea of whats silly to some children and then picked up by the adults who watch them that go there for a sense of community in their already decaying lives. No matter how much you shit on the PS4, the console is a resounding success. Nothing you say will change this fact. It's probably the most successful console since the SNES era, or at the very least, the Wii.
Everyone owns a PS4. Everyone and their mother owns a PS4. Everyone owns at least one or two games for their PS4. That's enough to make Sony money that'll last for another 20 years of failures(Wii Us, as I like to call it). It's not going away. You're absolutely powerless to stop it.
The PS4 is the gamers console. It's the console to own. It's the console developers are going to swarm to because they know it's the superior choice. Far superior. The best hardware of any console ever, the best online features and the best controller. You can not top this. We won.

There seems to be confusion about this game so i'll post some fucking facts for the 5th time

>Finding people randomly is a one in a billion chance but can share co-ordinates with friends ("possibly implying this is how you meet up?")
>Sentinels only protect certain planets, mostly the 'Utopian' planets or certain planets that hold artifacts. Their Ai will react differently on each planet.. on one planet for example they might let you get away with shooting a few creatures but on others they'll attack you the second you try and mine something.
>No in space mining, but there are asteroids and ringed planets but just to look pretty
>"Gas Giants" are just larger planets with a super toxic atmosphere that you can't land on till later in the game. They'll appear gasious from space however.
>At the start of the game you can choose from a fighter a explorer or a trading ship
>Either way your ship won't be able to warp out of the system until you collect 'elements' to repair it. Either by finding them buying them or stealing them.
>Most outer rim/early game systems will have traders and stations for you to trade and upgrade, as you go deeper you'll find less and less friendlies and more advanced sentinels and space pirates
>Many planets will have small outposts with one or two inhabitants and traders coming and going. Place for you to get oxygen or vital supplies when your running low or maybe buy a new ship if yours is destroyed
>Space stations are the 'middle ranged' hubs with several traders and ships coming and going with more variety in resources. Systems with stations are not as common as outposts.
>Some planets will have small settlements, developer mentions Tatooine as an example of the size of a settlement. The Best places to trade and buy new ships. Also best place to choose from a variety of quests.. Settlements are quite rare.

Are you really asking this on /v/? People will go out of their way to find shit they hate and devote all their time to it because it fills them with a righteous rage. People will devote more time to hating something than they ever would for what they like. You ever notice how really shit things, or even just controversial ones get tons of topics, and more universally liked things get nothing?

I suppose /v/ doesn't really have a universally liked game, but on /co/ and /a/, it's incredibly common for popular, loved shows or comics to never get discussed in lieu of being really pissed off at whatever dumb shit in a terrible comic or show is happening instead.

Comes out in just over a month with all advertised and featured content
Already played by various journalists who have stated it's playable and has the featuered and advertised content
Developer said there will not be any paid DLC content at all. But they might add certain features for free depends on what the player base wants

If this is a scam game, then IGN and Gamespot are in on it. Which would be so much drama it would be worth it, if it was a scam game that's lied about its content.

SHIET, never seen that before.

>Sony desperate for games to show off the PS4 decides to pick it up and shill it to absolute hell and back
>indie developers stuck in the catch-22 where they have to advertise the game but doing so ruins the game because it kill the mystery of everything
tldr version; Sony are faggots, NMS is a niche game and probably will be good for people who like that niche, /v/ is overblowing everything.

>Jetpack to make exploring on surface easier
>Heat shielding for your ship so you can approach planets closer to the sun
>Thermal shielding for your suit so you dont melt when you step outside
>Aquatic filters so you can go under water
>Better weaponry so you can loot freighters with impunity

A lot of games have upgraded equipment in one way or another anon. But of course they won't make you enjoy the game if exploration games ain't your thing.
>>
why do people keep comparing this game to starbound?
>you can't build anything
>you can't mine down except for a few meters
>can you even craft anything? seems more like sell resources to buy a ship component
>no loot
>you can only have one rifle
>you can catch creatures
>no bosses to fight
>no big progression. day 100 will feel quite the same as day 1
starbound is superior and that's a hilarious
>>
>>335019393
DS3 must be a shit game too then because they claimed 'you can do everything' and didn't deliver.,

Oh wait, that didnt happen for DS3 or NMS.

Fuck me I didn't even structure that sentence properly
Is it? Well coulda fooled me
I just see the press hype and shadows of normie spunk sprinkled around the shitheap that is my fagbook feed and assume lodes a money is changing hands.

I miss when games would just release.
No fancy displays, or being shown concept footage years before they've even built it, just a flash saying "on sale now"

I much more enjoy a game that has a hundred people around shouting "this is great" rather than a hundred people shouting for a year "it's gonna be great!"

I wonder if people are going to be let down when they realize this isn't a space pirate Killy tardy game because they didn't read the back of the box when they bought it.

You craft ship, suit and weapon parts yourself. With blueprints you find buy or steal.

You can also just buy parts you find in shops instead of making them.

Your 'multitool' can be upgraded, they've shown it shooting a laser beam but it can also be updraged to shoot EMP bolts at sentinels and the developer mentioned it can be made into a sniper rifle if you want.

Bosses, well the main antagonists haven't been revealed or what you'll face closer to the center. Sentinels have larger models like larger floating ships and two legged walkers that are extremely tough to fight one on one.

The center systems have less NPC's and outposts to trade with and you'll find more raiders and dangers the closer you get to the center. Undiscovered creatures will also start looking more and more 'alien' and less like life on earth the closer you get to the center.

Its just /v/ being stupid. The people actually planning on getting NMS know what the game is about.

you can play games in hardmode by pretending you character has a flaw.
for example: Skyrim your character is a pedophile
you have to follow the kids without them noticeing to find out were they live and sleep.
Or you have to play a game in total stealth.
and you want to play no mans sky as a nazi
>>
>>334981672
You clearly didn't check properly.
They said a lot of planets would have the sentinels but many planets wont due to being completely unexplored by any races.

They haven't said where the sentinels come from yet which my guess is that it relates back to the whole mystery at the center of the universe thing.

This game is fucked. People play Minecraft because they can fuck around with friends. People play EVE because of the various ways they can fuck people over, sometimes requiring a year of planning and execution.

Who is going to play a game where you fuck off from one planet to another doing the same shit by yourself for more than 10 hours at best. Might as well just fucking play Kerbal or Universe Sandbox
