Made it to the irithyll of boreal valley, but there is a barrier, says I need a doll. Someone told me I had to go to a cathedral or something, I just went exploring. Turns out I completely skipped half the shit after the catacombs. Had to take the bridge down as a ladder (Didn't know that) now I've completed the demon ruins and the boss there.

Most doors aren't locked but whenever you see 'does not open from this side' it means you'll find a shortcut that takes you back there. Truly locked doors require a key (Only keys I've seen thus far you buy from the merchant back at the Shrine) but I have not seen many of those.

Still can't get this game to work consistently. Sometimes its just minor frame rate drops and other times it just crashes without reason. Tried just about every temporary fix people have used, including rolling back drivers to 314 but nothing works.

buy an evga 500b psu. its not modular but its damn reliable. your cpu is locked both by AMD and by that shitty mobo so upgrading the GPU is all you can do. If you've got the cash you can pick up an SSD as well but chances are your memory is slow so it would only do so much to improve faster loads.

Go to the bonfire with the two knights (right before you head down the slopes and fight the guys with the makeshift lances). Continue westward down the path (or around it to get the jump on the enemies) until you find another bonfire. That bonfire is right next to a big stone building. The path to the Crystal Sage (and the Cathedral after that) is through that building.
fwiw, I believe at the point you reach the Cathedral, it's call the Cruxificion Woods.

Has anyone else tried using Caestus/Demon fist or any other fist weapon in this game? I'm trying to do a fists-only run for the first time, but it's absolutely ridiculous.
90% of enemies either attack or backdash out of stunlock after the first 1-2 combo, it's fucking absurd. Same goes for in PvP. I'm lucky if i even land one punch on someone before they insta roll away. I could deal with how low damage they do if I could just stunlock people for more than one press of LB.
I'm at Boreal Valley now, and it's a fucking nightmare. Those "Boreal Dancers" - the white cunts with the swords - just never leave themselves open, and if they do, i'm too far away to take advantage. Even if I do land a hit on them, they don't even get staggered and just restart their combo. I've never thought about "re-rolling" a character mid game, nor have I ever had the need to. But fist weapons on this game are absolute hell to use. I really have no idea why they were even added - there is absolutely 0 advantage, PvE OR PvP, to using them - you're always just straight up handicapped
TL;DR Fist weapons are absolute shite and there is currently no reason to use them other than if you're a masochist.

On the other side what do you think is the best boss? I'm leaning towards either Abyss Watchers or Pontiff. At Dancer currently and it feels like a chore since it has the token incredibly short telegraph instant death grab and getting hit even once in phase 2 is guaranteed death. If I'd known leveling was going to be this slow I would have gone sharp instead of refined so I could put more points into vit.

I beat Iudex on my first try without taking any damage.
I also parried the shit out of that uchi master in Firelink and I've never been good at parries.

In DS2, dare i mention it, caetus was fucking great. The moveset was kinda lackluster, but it was still enjoyable. PvP was good, too, because stunlock lasted long enough for me to get at very least 3 LB's on someone before they could roll out. PvE was fine too, mainly because mobs for the most part elegraphed their attacks to all fuck so i can easily roll in, throw some punches, and roll out.
If you roll into attack in DS3, you get attacked as soon as you come out the roll.
If you roll away from attacks in DS3, you're too far away to counter strike.
For certain enemies i have to wait till they use their most powerful move with the most lag so i can get one rolling attack in, and then start dodging again.

I think I've discovered a really good infusion use. Take the Lothric Knight Greatsword for instance. It does physical and lightning damage, has D/D str/dex scaling, and the lightning damage doesn't scale.
If you infuse it with Chaos, because Chaos forces int/faith scaling, you get ridiculous returns. The base physical damage only goes down by 31, the lightning damage stays the same but begins to scale, and you get 100 fire damage that wasn't there before that also scales.
Currently I don't have enough dex to wield it properly so I can't see how much of a hit physical scaling takes, but for a net gain 69 base damage, scaling on the lightning damage that wasn't there before, and scaling fire damage, it seems like a really bad idea to infuse anything else on it.

Game is very enjoyable so far, but kinda easy, I guess it's because I have so many hours in DkS1 though.
I'm 9 hours in and I've just finished the Irithyll Dungeon, and I beat Vordt, the Crystal Sage, the Deacons and the Abyss Watchers all on my first try, I really hope I don't finish the game too soon.
With that said, DkS3 so far has my favourite areas in all the Souls games, and I've died more times to regular enemies than bosses

If you have any magic stats it's really nice to have that scaling. And if you invest base physical stats needed to wield it you get extremely good returns on the scaling.
I need to do some testing on how much of a hit physical scaling takes, and how that infusion fairs vs heavy/sharp/whatever the quality one is, but my point is if you have magic stats and find a weapon that deals phsyical + non-physical damage if you infuse chaos you can get a lot of extra damage out of it, especially if the non-physical damage didn't scale before.
On top of that you get the utility that comes with dealing three damage types.

You can get in a solid 3-4 hits (with a dex wep) when he just summons it. Its enough to nearly kill the phantom if not outright kill it. The phantom and Pontiff always copy each other, iirc the phantom always attacks first. Wait for a move with lots of cooldown and then smack the shit out of the phantom. I was kinda pissy about it too when the phantom showed up but at least it isn't an entirely independent entity.

Just beat the game. The game was pretty good. But nothing in this game felt new. It's literally a mix-match of shit we've seen from the older games. From start to finish, it literally felt like I was just going through the motions. Flasks are too OP in this game also. I barely hs to respect any of the bosses and just flasked in their faces. I definitely miss DaS2's healing system. It made shit more dire during combat.
Churning out 1 souls game a year since 2014, it was bound for this franchise to get a little dry and it really shows with DaS3. I still think the lore of these games are pants on head retarded though and they take themselves way too seriously. Almost on that Kingdom Hearts level of pretentiousness without making any real sense for you to take it seriously.

I'm at the Cathedral of the Deep. I activated the shortcut by kicking the ladder down to the little hut by the maggot creatures. But that's it.
So what I've been doing is starting from the bonfire in the cleansing church or whatever and then hopping down to the ravine area with those maggot dudes, taking the ladder shortcut then proceeding to the rooftop area. I end up getting to the spot with two of those dual blade fuckers and I can't get past it. Is there anything I'm missing?
I tried running past once and got fucked up by the giant in that church just after.
