There's a problem with having a character who literally opens with "Oh see, I'm trans!" Not, "I'm a woman", but "I was a man and now am presenting as a woman" because that's fucking retarded. There's also nothing wrong with the NPC that complains about mansplaining. Being upset that men talk down to you because you're a woman isn't a bad character motivation, in fact it's a pretty decent one. But using the actual word "mansplaining" is idiotic.
You can't ignore the history of words in concepts in a game that's based off a historical era. If someone made a reference to the United States, or Einstein, or anything else that's clearly out of character that would be equally dumb.
The problem isn't that LGBT characters exist. It's that this portrayal is, at best, token as fuck and at worst it's just plain out bad writing.

I can honestly say that the 2.0 patch was not a good thing overall for the game.
SoD's poor writing and agenda pushing aside the patch itself mucked up the game and they have yet to acknowledge this, they are just remaining adamant that the negative feedback they are getting is because of the transsexual character when that is only a minor problem in the grand scheme of things.

This, this is part of the true core issue that genuine critics of this have: it's jarring and takes you out of the game. Part of a good believable universe is that it's self-consistent. Some games have pop references as part of their structure, they're light and funny, and that's fine, but that's not the type of game Baldur's Gate was, it's about visiting another world. Thank you for posting this, I fucking hate it when somebody sits down with a rich universe and just ignores the whole thing, instead just using it to slap a layer of paint onto some real world thing. Trans is basically a failure of current state of technology: in another 50 years they'll probably just be able to clone you a new body of a different gender and swap your brain into it or something and that'll be that. Hell we'll probably be experimenting with futa and shit by that point or some future direct brain-computer interface cybersex we can't even comprehend right now. Humans love to take new tech and apply it to sex. You know what, if I had met the character ingame and it had been a woman who, after actually getting to know her and gain her trust, revealed that she used to be a man but changed her gender with one of the several methods available - or even more interestingly, accidentally put on a cursed belt and decided he felt better at home in a woman's body, that would have been awesome. It would have been FUN, believable and completely acceptable because it wouldn't be at odds with anything in the lore. And you would be able to see where he had come from, even if you didn't agree.
But we couldn't have that, could we? Because a girdle that magically changes your gender must be incredibly triggering to trannies who usually can never pass for women. So instead we get a guy who just begins yelling about his personal life and his special snowflake name he made out of letters from languages he felt were really chic totally unprovoked, because it's so fucking important that you know this one defining characteristic he has.
