The real problem is that low lvl AD&D is boring. You got low to no options, you can get easily killed by bad luck and your spellcaster can cast 2-3 spells before needing a rest.
Once you are out of the very annoying early game (Around lvl 4-5 your character stop being papier maché and most class actually come into themselves) then you can enjoy the scenery, the quest, etc.
Personally i replay it often and appreciate it since i know thespots in the game well enough to get rid of lvl 1-3, while on release i spent hours between the gnoll fortress and Nashkell killign cave bears

Well, they added the so called "story mode" option. (i.e. godmode, immunity against everything, all stats 25).
If you fail often enough (in their twisted mind a reload) then the game decides that the difficulty you choose is to hard and it lowers it. If you keep "failing" you will reach story mode.
The game won't ask to lower it nor would it actually tell you that it just did it. I realized it because i checked my character screen after a while. I reloaded a ton of times because i was pickpocketing.
