I disagree on the pencil sketched garbage though because some of the guys who do the traditional art are pretty good, their only problem is that they don't scan their nice shit. Last thread for example, the Lucina and Estelle request was drawn nicely on paper and it looked even better scanned. There are times where I rather wish someone decent had done my request and all I can do is nod and shallowly thank then for efforts I really don't care about all because it would be "rude" not to. I really hate doing that and much rather say nothing at all.

Wasting somebody's request on your practicing can and will lower the quality of the art they expected. Don't practice your drawing on something you'll give to someone else, practice on drawing things you like, things nobody else would want to have.
Engineers don't "practice" their project building and calculation skills on building skyscrapers right off the bat.
Surgeons don't "practice" their skill on real people who are in critical condition.

Remember, just draw stuff that you want to draw.
Drawing because you want the OR to be happy, satisfied, impressed, etc. is fine, but you can't really guarantee they'll have the reaction you want, and you can't really expect or demand that they have the reaction you want either.
But if you had fun drawing it, then their reaction is kind of irrelevant. Issues like ">tfw OR never responded" and "his cake is better than mine..." go out the window if you're drawing for you. You should strive to improve your art, but drawing for fun happens at every skill level.
