Working on affinity grinding via the support missions in the barracks. Want to finish the character affinity quests for quite a number of my team.
I'm post end-game. Already have a firm grasp of my Duelist set-up and built a custom lvl 60 Mastema (and Ares 90). Right now, despite all the very nice gear I have, the Ares is still my safer and more powerful option, sadly.

Frankly, the Ares 90 is still better. The only reason the lvl 60 customs can outperform it is the use of superweapons. Even then, it's just to OHKO, and requires tons and tons of equipment and end-level augments to get it right.
I suppose the lvl 60s are also capable of a lot more of the fun different arts than Ares 90's 4 arts, but the Ares 90 is far more evasive, has more fuel, has more power, and it overall just a superior weapon right outta the box. Don't feel too bad.
Also, you should (or should've) just grinded the global nemesis for reward tickets. Break all the appendages and abandon. You'll get a couple hundred tickets each run.

I'm about 30 hrs in, got my first skell.
I'm really not used to the way escaping combat works. Often while I'm exploring I'll be ambushed by random high level enemy and since emergency escape just reloads you at the last landmark you visited it has no advantage to just allowing yourself to be killed, so I always end up running in a direction as fast as I can, which works about 30% of the time since the way the combat works you don't have to be anywhere remotely near something to hit it.
But now that I have the skell, it makes me want to explore even LESS now that if that happens and my skell is destroyed there are actual consequences.
Is there an easier way to escape a level 70 simian dropping out of nowhere and raping my face? It's a really fun game regardless.

There's LOTS of inconsistencies. And, as everyone here agrees, lots of loose ends. Dropped potential. I think the game would have benefitted the most by exploring L's character. It would answer questions about Mira, about this singular being with language idiosyncrasies that shouldn't exist, and be far more exciting of a twist to include to the story thanLao being a traitor oh gosh oh dear, kill the sunavabitch who cares. Clearly not BLADE, because there's so much backstabbing and outright murdering xenophobia in this game, no one give a shit if Lao was permanently gone for his shit reason of missing his dead family.

Vehicle mode is the best way to escape things, till you can fly. There's no real penalty to getting your robot blown up, if you can make the qte afterwards. And even if you run out of insurance, it's not that expensive to fix up.

Good thing she waited until there was less than 2% and in the middle of a huge battle with aliens where tons of her colleagues were dying to decide it was worth it.Also, she firmly believed it wasn't wrecked or in a dangerous spot because of the general safety after at least 2 months. you get flight after chapter 9, it's a mission on the mission board
the trigger thing that pops up is when you stagger an enemy you can hold those buttons to bind them, making all attacks do double damage while you hold them, in my experience, if someone else in my party has a skell they'll immediately close in and try to bind anything I stagger so I never have to bother
after your skell is destroyed, the soul voice circle will pop up when you're ejecting, if you time it perfect you don't lose skell insurance, to run away from anything just push b, flip into vehicle mode and run, mobs reset based on how far you are from them, don't worry about your party, there's nothing you should be trying to attack that will kill you instantly, if you hit something and it hits you for like 2k or something even when you're in a skell then get the fuck out as fast as possible, if it does more than that then you're an idiot for even thinking you could kill it
general rule of thumb is on foot dont attack unless it's white or possible purple if you're confident, if in a skell, if it's big don't attack unless it's white, if it's small don't attack if it's red, blue you can maybe kill depending on what it is, purple you should be fine

Incorrect.The only reason Qlu are mentioned are they are the only ones with Trion based technology (barriers). This is noticed when the Lifehold has Trion-based barriers keeping out the Ganglion and Luxaar is pissed because "that technology doesn't exist outside the Qlu system!" Elma, being the only alien responsible to giving alien technology to Earth humans, even stowing aboard the White Whale, is very obviously then a member of the Qlu system. Not in-game, but the original artwork and preliminary art/writing that came with the official stuff depict Qlu aliens and their ships. They look like Elma.Celica is just some sorta cat people from some planet somewhere. Maybe the last of her kind, maybe the last of her village. She's just sum xeno.

soul voice is two things, the circle that pops up or your party calling out to you
when someone calls out to you, one type of your arts will light up, and if you use one of that type, you and the person who called out will heal a little and you get some other small buff, when I say type I mean color, even if it doesn't do what they call out for color is all that matters, like if they call out for healing or a buff just use a green art and it will work, even if the green art doesn't heal or buff them
the other kind is the qte circle, which heals everyone for a big chunk of hp, these only trigger when certain things happen, like killing an enemy or destroying a limb, and they don't trigger every time
successful soul voices are the fastest way to grind affinity, and they also increase morale, which increases the power of future soul voices and there are a few arts here and there that are stronger the more morale you have

Whenever you do something that can activate a soul voice (like critting, getting low hp, going into overdrive, etc. It depends on your character), you have a chance to get that QTE, if you succeed your character calls out a soul voice. If one of your teammates responds with the right art, you get TP and HP.
On the other side, if you're the one responding to another character's soul voice, you get the TP&HP, but you also get an additional effect depending on what the soul voice was and who said it. The extra effect is displayed down on your art menu and can be stuff like +1 buff tier, +150% damage, +50% to soul heal (which means the HP bonus is bigger), +10 secs to overdrive time, +topple effect, etc.
They also raise affinity between the two characters, so it helps to do them if you can.
How do I not do shit damage? I'm level 50 and my auto attacks do like 300 with Longsword and 27k with a combo. I'm trying to one shot things. And my GBuster with 500 potential only does 50k. What do?

...no. It's a fine JRPG sci-fi theme, but no literary masterwork. It's a fine game, don't get me wrong, and far better than most garbage that passes for story in that era of gaming, but like most things it isn't driving or comprehensive.
Totally honestly, as far as JRPGS go, Final Fantasy has some pretty great plots and story about them. Hironobu Sakaguchi is an excellent director and with a talented team in the FF heyday.

It's different for each Skell frame.
All it ever does is boost stats. That's it. Oh, and will recover some appendage damage or reduce some cooldown. It's not super important at all. The biggest use it has is giving your arts a faster cooldown and/or increasing the chance you go into the Cockpit view (which makes you invincible and restores all your Arts and lets you use one without any cost of Fuel).

OHKO things only works with Skells, mostly. Get an Ares 90. If not the Ares 90. get a lvl 50 (0r 60) Skell, drop a superweapon on it and give it tons of augments to beef up it up.
On foot, use Longsword overdrive the culminates in Blossom Dance. You'll do millions upon millions of damage. In the case of the global enemies that won't die and go away, you'll do billions since you never leave overdrive when you're doing it right and you can re-use Blossom Dance, the full tertiary cooldown version, every 10 seconds or so.

I'm pretty sure you can only find them from mechanical treasure. If you're also struggling to meet the 70k minimum use that pic as a guide. Placing a duplicator probe and booster probe there is a massive boost if you have research probes all around them. It's probably the best spot in the game to make money.

Soon as I got my skell I gave it to my weakest party member and only switched to that character when something was unreachable on foot using the skell yourself just reduces you damage output since the AI is pretty ass.
So I got this yesterday for Xmas, and I just got to chapter 4, but I feel like I went about getting there the wrong way.
My party is pretty much all lvl 12 right now, and I just ran around avoiding combat and throwing down probes until my Survey % hit 15, then went and started the story mission. Ended up taking a break there, but I find myself wondering, Am I underleveled? Should I be updating my equipment more often? It feels like combat encounters are taking longer than they should, and that my party members are dealing vastly more damage than I am.

TP generation is usually pretty slow unless/until you get to late game where you specialize in gaining it.
There's a lot of arts that have a primary use of generating TP. You can also get augments that give you TP with art use, increase the amount of TP that you gain on TP designated arts.
Also, there's a rifle you can get through a side mission called the Ramjet Rifle. Ugly thing, but it's a 3 round burst, 10 second cool down, 1 damage rifle that generates a whopping 300 TP per hit. 900 TP every 10 seconds is great, especially if you can keep track of timing in your head.
A lot of TP generation seems very class specific. I haven't experimented much, but FMJ has quite a bit of TP generating arts.

Heal- almost all healing is done through soul voices. there are some crappy healing arts, but yeah, give your soul voices a quick glance and try to keep one color of each art available in emergencies. I'm pretty sure your potential stat determines how much health you gain from soul voices

Healing occurs when you or a team mate successfully does a soul voice (that QTE that pops up occasionally) when a team mate does one he will shout what type of skill to use it will flash on the hotbar, to revive you need to have 3000tp spare and be stood next to them.

Just cleared Ch12 myself. Pretty sure they're special squad missions in the barracks' terminal. There's a ton there, and I don't remember having that many before. They also have descriptions saying "hey, this shits great for getting exp/miranium/etc.." or whatever.
Considering that they practically throw a dev kit in your lap in regards to camera options, it's pretty annoying there are no audio options. I'd really love to turn the music up and turn down or off the same canned generic, poorly voice acted battle cries.
