I still have no idea why the cutscenes with moogles are so much higher quality than the rest of the game. It's kind of jarring.

-2 fixes most of that. You get much more control over where you're going next, including revisiting places you've gone before in case you miss something. The characters are more fun, and the combat is basically a better version of XIII.
-3 completely changes the combat, goes to fully open world, but people complain about Lightning without having played the game. Also, all of the old characters from previous games are depressed when you show up, so you might like them even less.

the towns and shit feel like XII and is full of side-quests and stuff. there's loads more customization and setting up skills and spells, not so linear like XIII, you are always micromanaging your setup which is what I enjoy about FFs. tons of dress-up barbie. shitty story and characters as usual from XIII games.
the combat is still a bit like "hold O, R1, hold O, R1, hold O" but at least they improved it a bit. it can be quite technical when you need to exploit different weaknesses, debuffs, timing guard to be more effective, etc.
just watch videos and decide, the port is alright unless you are an /r/masterrace memekid.

Plot was awful, too much Serah-related drama, l'cie fal'cie shmu'cie fi'cie do'cie instead of normal names, horrible (although original) eidolon designs, had to change party leader to summon different eidolon, AI often acts retarded in combat, misleading difficulty spikes, no cities, excessive linearity.
In 13-2 it was lack of interesting character, loading screens every few minutes, annoying enemy spawn and too much Yeun-related drama. Main antagonist design was awful.
LR feels small, plot is silly as fuck, not enough characters to make it interesting, muh Serah shit again.
But yeah, FF games are always at least decent. They only look shitty compared to other FF games.
