There's scaling. Even with my super sledge and maxed out melee perk, it takes time to kill certain enemy types. Stuff with no prefix is usually piss easy, though. I've got the maxed pistols perk, too, so the game has been pretty easy the entire time, except on a few occasions. If you go to Quincy at my level there's an Assaultron Dominator that turns invisible and can kill me in like two hits if I don't pay attention.

what i do to keep it interesting is keep my END at 1 and add 1 end after every 10 levels
if you do something like stealth build and silencer weapon with ninja perk, you basically will be running around 1 shotting everything with a small pistol while stealthed

Things scale like New Vegas so they scale within a certain range and certain areas are higher level than others. Also unique items don't scale to your level anymore finally.

I originally wanted to make a melee character so I piled most into strength, most of my perks into higher melee damage etc. Before I started to get bored of that tactic. I was already level 15 by this point though so I just started to add points into guns to compensate. I'm 42 now and it's working out ok. I do randomly completely change my appearance in console though.

i rerolled like 20-30 times atleast and have like 200 hours played, but i leave my game running in the background like right now it is
i finally figured out the optimal build for most immersive playthrough though, so im sticking with this character and i realized why i was always not happy with how my character was heading, it was real immersion breaking things like accessing the city planner menu like the second you get out of the vault and like building complex shit just makes no sense immersion wise, so like right now, until i find a good story point where i can justify for the character to start building structures, i just avoid accessing that menu completely
and like i don't mod my weapons until i get the perks, and limit modding to just removing/ moving weapon sights from 1 gun to the next or very basic exterior mods ilke the weapon grips
and when i level up i pick a perk that makes sense for my character to learn to get better at, at that time, so if i've been in a bunch of firefights i'll upgrade the rifleman perk or if i've been sneaking a lot i'll do that
also a good thing is to avoid all factions until further into the story

No, from the moment you leave the vault you have full access to everything in the game. It's not like Witcher and other GTA clones where the world is segmented.
Enemies will get progressively more difficult the further south you go, so you will need to level up to keep up. But that's about it

I suck at character creating but I detest playing as women, so I basically got rid of the Italian nose and ears, made his hair Cool Brown, gave him the Antihero hair style, and turned his entire skin style young. No wrinkles. Oh and no stubble obviously. I also gave him the lip scar and the tiny hook scar above the right eyebrow for added effect.
Character looks fucking awesome, if a bit unoriginal.
Haven't done much besides clearing out camps. Been decently fun so far.
