They really aren't. It doesn't help that they spend more time covering social issues than videogames. Game journos are a dying breed, but I'm sure they're aware of that.
Journalism as a whole is pretty much dead. Publications have no real standards or ethics anymore, and social media and the internet means you can go read a blog post or watch some youtuber who is better at reporting than actual "journalists".

i'm making a game where you play as a deer. it's mostly exploration based, and has a spirited away type feel. so far i've got some laser puzzles going on. what gameplay stuff would you guys like to see?

Don't go "oh so deep with puzzles" on this shit.
Make it fun and challenging. Find some gameplay quirk, maybe two and build a game around it, THEN put depth on top of it.
