Why is this game so highly acclaimed? The game fails to hold my interest (aside from the gameplay), and I'm really only playing it because I spent money on it, but I'm curious as to why others place it on such high a pedestal.

It was one of the only worthwhile JRPGs on the Wii. Even then it's only Nintendo fanboys that overrate it so much.

Kids on this board are too young to have lived through an era of good exploration based JRPGs so they cling to this. It is very mediocre but that's what you get when people cling to the wrong things.
Notice how everyone expects FF to get good again despite all the talent being gone? Or how KH is touted even though there are way more shit games in the series than good? Everyone clings to this weird idea that a brand is important. XC is vaguely branded with games like Xenogears despite having damn near nothing in common. Xenogears wasn't all about wandering a big empty world. XC is boring sidequest the game blended with run around a lot fighting but never find so much as a treasure chest. It's boring.
But then again I don't really care. Let people have fun how they want. I don't understand but I don't have to.

I hope they fix this in the sequel. I don't even know if the combat in the game is any good because I never did it.
Stealth is a snoozefest, violent is too easy. I fell asleep playing this game.
You won't be able to play local multiplayer without a Gamepad. One player has to use the Gamepad as a controller and screen, the other player uses a regular controller and the TV as their screen.

Why is nobody talking about this? This basically crucifies its offline competitive community before it even has a chance. Seriously, fuck Nintendo.

What were you expecting though? The camera follows one characters. And it wouldn't really work. You'd have to implement a split screen kind of thing but it would severely limit your sight range.
Sounds like a pretty decent solution to be honest.
Nintendo: Fuck the Competitive Community (except Splatoon, our least competitively viable multiplayer game outside of Mario Party)
I mean seriously, if that's the case I'd rather have any other solution, even if it means no offline multiplayer outside of LAN.
I just want that cool Hori controller for virtual console games, man.
Overall it makes sense, but it basically forces tournaments to be run over Wifi with double the amount of setups. It's like Splatoon in that people are going to want it to be competitive, but it ultimately can't.
