Split into two games.
Dungeons are a little barren.
Can force grinding on you, especially DDS2
Final dungeons are really long and plotless which kills the pacing of the ending.
Still one of the best JRPGs ever made.

In defense of the new Dante, if you actually play the game through, he goes through development. He turns into the old Dante over time.

This. The special edition fixes all the problems people ever had with the game and DmC Dante has a full, genuine character arc by the end of the game.

Allfourof Triborg's variations are fun to play and high mid tier at least.

Alien is THE rushdown character; so many ways to get in and keep out. Letting Acidic Alien get you in a corner is literally one of the worst things you can do; if she has a bar say goodbye to 70% of your lifebar. That ankle biter crawl is ridiculous.

That's pretty much it.
I really like SMT games, but this one is exceedingly grindy, annoying, and just badly designed.
Why didn't they at least try to remake it? It has a great premise, but everything is so poorly executed and requires fucking currency grinding just to walk steps with demons out.
Should I bother giving Strange Journey a shot?
