I've NEVER played a Final Fantasy game before, where should I start? And, which VERSION of that game should I play?

IV, VI, VII and IX are the most beloved games by the most fans, and the ones I could easily recommend to anyone.
Out of those, I'd say 7 is a safe bet. It was a huge phenomenon back in the days, and it's still very enjoyable, atmospheric and even comfy game. The gameplay-mechanisms are simple enough to learn by a rookie, but hard enough to master to keep experienced players interested. There's also tons of optional side quests, minigames, etc.
After that, choose your poison. Since the stories and worlds are (usually) not connected in any way, you can pretty much shoot blind. Different things appeal to different people, and that's also why there's so much arguments about various titles in the series.
I for example really liked the FF XIII trilogy as a whole, but I know that many bash it as the worst blunder of the millennium and death of the series.
The ones I would personally recommend skipping are the NES originals (1-3) and the MMOs (11 & 14). I also wasn't too fond of VIII and XII.

Those who played it,what are your opinions?
Personally,for a fps on a console,it was overall pretty damn good experience. I found lack of multiplayer and short single player to be the main flaws. The gun models and the feeling of destruction they gave while shooting felt epic. Reloading animations were pretty neat (love how it speeds up animation when game detects you under heavy fire). Soundtrack was also lovely.

They seem to think they're above the law and that certain facets of our judicial system regarding contracts just don't apply to them. They claim the contracts for HTTKC are invalid, but upon my request for a written statement as to their invalidity they refuse to state why. I've been trying to get them to tell me for the last two months and they're just dicking me around and doing anything they can to avoid giving me an answer. Then they tell me they're unwilling to discuss the contracts unless I have a lawyer, so I have my lawyer contact them, only to have them waste another entire month of time before making vague legal threats and telling me they now refuse to have a discussion involving lawyers. It's complete nonsense and I suspect we will end up in court.
TL;DR - HTTKC (Hail to the King Collection) is sort of like a commercial mod wherein this group of modders formed a company and had a contract to release the different versions and expansions of Duke3D on mobile via the source port EDuke32. Now Gearbox is behaving like, well like Gearbox, and trying to bully them out of it. Allegedly. There's also apparently concerns that this could lead to them trying take on the source port itself.
