Bloodborne is the first piece of entertainment that has truly created a world, rather than a directed and linear story.
We are plopped in the middle of a detailed and finely crafted universe, where we have to explore, adventure and piece together the goings-on of the world around us. None of the 'narrative' (if you could ever call the lore a narrative) is fed to us. Much like the NPC inhabitants, we are trying to figure out what is going on. As a result, nobody truly has the full answer.
This is one of the best methods of 'storytelling' I have ever experienced in a medium. Better than most novels I've read. A hell of a lot better than most movies I've watched.
The world is so incredibly designed and detailed, it's incredible. This is how games should tell their story. Through the world and the players interaction with such a world. It's what demonstrates the superiority of the medium above all others - that interaction and self-discovery are capable, and that the story can be pieced together, interpreted and experienced directly by the player and not by the hand of the director or author.it's also better than the unnecessarily cryptic rubbish that is the Souls storyline
It's unfortunate that it will attract a lot of shitposting merely because it is an exclusive game.

Also, it's by far the best Lovecraft-inspired world ever. Ever. Nothing comes close to it and it arguably is up and beyond the leagues of Call of Cthulhu. Lovecraft would truly be in awe of what has been crafted here.
I enjoyed the world of BB a great deal, but the souls style of storytelling always came off as lazy to me.
I'm the type of person that thrives on lore and getting to the bottom of what happened in a given area if I arrive after certain events.
Even if you find every piece of information, there are still large chunks missing and it ends up being frustrating because you can't get as involved in the world as you want to.
Even people that make it their mission to catalog this stuff into a cohesive story have to heavily interpret things on their own.
I get why people like it, but it just isn't my thing, it leaves me wanting in a bad way.

Also, Bloodborne's world is blatantly unfinished, they started the whole bullshit around the pthumerian side to start a "mythology" and then scrapped it along with the inclusion of chalice dungeons

Well to be fair, HWL framerate is atrocious and it completely ruins the game, but I agree that Overwatch is the moat overrated piece of shit since Dark Souls and Undertale. People will forget about it in a few months.

We really got shafted with the original 3DS release, considering all the cut dialogue and the liberties 8-4 took with the translation. The Steam version is, at present, the definitive English release, the patch for the 3DS version still pending.
I really do like the characters and setting, and the gameplay works pretty well. I wish the stages were designed differently, with some more variation. Moreso in the 3DS version since there's no dialogue to fill the emptier areas of the stages. Seems the sequel's level design is much better, from what bits I've seen.
I really hope we get a physical release of that Striker Pack that Japan's getting, with both the first and second Gunvolt games bundled together. At least we're getting the in-stage dialogue and voice acting in the sequel's localization, plus the guy who translated the steam version of the first game is helping translate the second.

What scary stuff are you guys playing? I just jumped back into Doom 64. Forgot how much the atmosphere creeped me out as a kid.
After playing Amnesia for the first time awhile back and being more or less disappointed by it, I'm still trying to decide on a good horror game to play.
Was thinking of either going back and finishing Silent Hill 2, or maybe getting around to picking up Eternal Darkness.

nothing at the moment, but I can always highly recommend giving the original Silent Hill games, the ones by Team Silent, a shot, if you haven't played 'em yet. You can play SH1-4 on PC; here's a neat guide to get'em look and run well on modern systems, plus the DL links:

Mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate.
The "sh2proxy" fix works as a no-cd crack as well, and is included in the pack.
In case you experience issues saving the game / not being able to edit the disp.ini, make sure the files aren't set to "Read Only", and run the game as Administrator.
If SH2 gets stuck in a black screen upon launch, close it and re-start it again.

here's the recommended emulator settings for SH1. Works great on all other games too.
The plugins used are:
-Pete's OpenGL 1.78; (more options & better performance than 2.x version)
-Eternal's SPU Engine.
alternatively just use a software renderer for very 1:1 PS1-like graphics, including 240p only.
...OR just buy the game from PSN Store for few bucks.
