Hearts of Stone has no relation to the main story.
Blood and Wine on the other hand does pull a little from the main story. A line here or there referencing the events of the main game, but nothing more than that. At the end of Blood and Wine though, you do get a special visitor depending on your choices in the main game.

Try a different route. If an enemy is way to hard it's usually to make you look for alternative routes.

The werewolves on the Great Bridge is a deliberate noob trap. There's alternate routes you can take to get to get to the other side of the bridge and get past them without provoking them.
Git gud. I beat both of them on my first playthrough without dying.
