Honestly the armored core franchise ruined other mech games for me. The customization is off the charts. Every other game you just pick a frame and change some weapons which is lame.

Easily the best 7th gen Spider-man game, but also a mediocre at best game.
The swinging is actually pretty good and the aerial combat is great. I genuinely loved the Vulture and Electro fights.
However, the game itself quickly peaks after this and once the symbiote invasion gets into swing, the game starts to run like shit. Once you get to the full blown invasion, prepare for sub 10 fps gameplay.
Also, it has some of the worst voice acting I've ever heard in a game. Spidey's VA was a fucking travesty.
Personally I thought the symbiotes infecting literally everyone from the comic so you could fight them again was really stupid, but you might get a kick out of it if you're a 90s kid and think Venom and Carnage aren't retard characters.

Figured I should play at least one AC game to see what all the fuss is about, so I got a used copy of Black Flag. Is there anything I should know ahead of time? For example, the season pass or the up lay passport or whatever it is is probably not worth it, right?

if you want to know what the fuss is about play the first one, the rest is pretty much more of the same with some gameplay improvment, more casualisation and wacky story "twists"

This is probably the only game I've completed and didn't understand the endinguntil someone told me about the true ending, then suddenly everything fell into place.
I hope they do a second one, I could use a little vengeance, I knew something was up throughout the game but there was nothing I could do about it.

--Returning racers:
Go to "friends" from the online menu & view "recent players" list to find and join someone who is currently racing. You can't join somebody in a new lobby if you haven't first searched for the lobby code
