How come Nintendo doesn't have a 1st party flagship classical RPG on their home consoles, like the Final Fantasy or Tales series?
Since Nintendo have been around since forever, it's kinda strange.

Because they attempted it and it didn't work. Fire Emblem 9 was a return to their handheld games after 6 years and it didn't perform well enough to hold an interests for a console RPG for that series.

I really hope they don't fuck up Persona 5 like how they fucked up P4. The whole forced humour and goofy characters thing was extremely obnoxious. I hope they decide to take Persona 5 more seriously and actually make it more interesting than wacky. Kojima's got tons of gameplay in his games, and went from closed levels to open worlds. Cage started with an open world and has been reducing the scope of his games ever since, removing as much gameplay as he can while still keeping some form of short term choice.
