It's something to do with Japanese language rules, the 'Ha' becomes a 'Pa' sound because you're not supposed to have an h sound following a consonant or something. I think technically this should mean that it actually is Nicohana but pana seems to be more widely accepted, probably because Rinpana is the most well known Hanayo ship name.

NozoRin is an interesting pairing that I would like to see more off. The official NozoRin SID was beautiful and shown some nice depth for both of them, especially for Rin who was able to recognize Nozomi was going through a depression. I see you were not around when people were picking apart the awful writing from a character-centric perspective.
Hanada's strength is in creating an overall storyline, but for in-depth characterization, the anime was lacking. It needed the SIDs, magazine articles/Q&As, SIF, audio dramas, cast commentary, etc for an audience to see more, or deeper, into the characters. While I disagree with >>2080435 in general, the point remains that a lot of development isn't overt or even there at all in the anime.
Take Hanayo for example. Her character arc is about maturing and coming into herself. Compare when she hesitated to join μ’s and needed encouragement from Rin and Maki, with how she has been able to voice her thoughts and wants, how Nico has appointed and acknowledged her as the next club president (repeatedly), and so on. But people tend to not notice her development because Hanayo gets too little focus and this takes place over the course of two animated seasons, one movie, and many SIF chapters.

The central "conflict", so to speak, for Aqours isn't saving their school from closing down like what μ’s did for Otonokizaka. Uranohoshi closing down was already a confirmed matter, at least from what we've seen from the Dengeki G's features. What Aqours are doing is more of leaving their mark; they aspire towards μ’s because μ’s are memorable. I don't recall if it's mentioned in-universe, but the word "legend" has been bandied about in descriptions of μ’s because of what they have come to achieve.
So as long as this isn't ignored, brushed off, or completely rewritten to be like the Otonokizaka situation, I'd be satisfied.

On a related note, Suwawa said recently on Fuwasata that she and Arisha have been around each other a lot, what with them both playing third-years and being in the same unit (so they still did promotional activities together for both groupings). Apparently, even after lots of chitchatting at the studio and while in transit, they somehow had it in them to continue chatting on LINE until it was past two in the morning. Plus, if we recall the recent AZALEA stream, Arisha knows so much about Suwawa's texting habits to the point where she has noticed the variety and frequency by which she uses kaomoji.
As it were, since Suwawa is the upcoming guest on the Uranohoshi radio programming, there is likely more Dia/Kanan discussion between them soon to come.
Help me /u/. I can't get excited for Sunshine because I just can't accept the new cast. Except for Mari, she seems cool. But the rest of them are like mashed up OCs of the original cast that came out of a random online character generator. What do?

I didn't really warm up to the characters either. They seemed more like instances of archetypes, in the beginning. Then more material was released and added layers and different facets to them, making them more interesting.
It's not going to be fun if you go reading the G's articles when you feel that way about the characters, though. While I dislike how the only English "translation" of the audio dramas is by a known hackjob, I would recommend trying them out to get a feel of how the Aqours members interact with and bounce off each other. Perhaps not seeing visual images can reduce the effect of the preconceived impression you already have.

A number of so-called translators like Daxing Dan or those tumblr "big name fans" don't actually do much translation on their parts. What they in fact do is take translations from Chinese translation groups, without permission, then reword those translations from Chinese to English, not always with success and/or accuracy. An easy way to tell who such hackjobs are is to see if their "translations" come only after Chinese translations are put up somewhere, usually Bilibili.
The Aqours voice dramas are one clear example of this; if not because Chinese fans were very enthusiastic and working on subbed videos once early CDs were leaked/delivered, those videos wouldn't have been up as early as on street release day. And if not for the work of the Chinese subbers, Daxing Dan would then have nothing to make English-subbed videos with.
I suppose inaccurate and misused translations might be seen as better than none at all, but that's even sadder when we have nobody stepping up to do a superior job.

Surely everyone knows that Daxing Dan translates from Chinese translations. It's not ideal, but the source material isn't exactly Shakespeare. You can live with it.

I felt the same for quite a while - less because I didn't think I'd like the new girls, and more because I didn't want to give the older ones up (especially because I joined the LL fandom late, and didn't get as much time to see things grow).
I felt better after watching the PVs and reading the audio dramas, which seem fine so far. And I realized I don't have to think of the new girls as "replacing" the older ones either.
Still, best thing is to pretty much just watch Sunshine when it airs - if you like it, great. If not, oh well.

On this day, 6 years ago Love Live officially debut with the announcement of the cast.
6 years on, what began as a series of forgotten music videos went onto release a manga, two highly successful anime series, a spin-off series whose anime comes in two days, a movie as well as bringing us several great concerts with the last screened as far as Australia.
Meanwhile, their CD sales just kept rising higher and higher from that adverse start.
Today, Love Live is no longer the obscure series I once knew but popular throughout the whole world. Good job to everyone who worked on this, stuck to it until the end and the 18 lovely ladies who made it special.

It's a real shame because both of these artists are pretty good with drawing, but their characterization is so, so, terrible.

If I can say anything so far, it's that Sunrise really stepped up their game in the art and animation departments. The environments looked really, really nice and the characters looked/moved well, in comparison to how Muse sometimes had that real QUALITY look to them.
Also, Chika called, what, 2 girls out already on being cute and touched both Ruby and Yohane - she's gayer than Honk already.

And here I thought Honoka had issues with respecting personal space. Chika was already shoving her face right in front of Hanamaru despite not even knowing her. And the ChikaRiko is laid on thick already.
One thing I do like about Chika is that she was much more willing to butt heads with Dia. Its much better than the tepid "rivalry" between Honoka and Eli between which took 9 episodes to resolve. (which in itself is a huge retcon to their previously established relationship). Can't wait to see what she does to win her over.

Anything penned by Kimino (manga, and later the Secret Short Cuts, SIDs, the Fight Club skits, etc) portrayed Honoka and Eli as childhood friends. The Aqours magazine articles are less clear-cut in terms of where they sit in any timeline, but they come with a pretext that the group is already formed, while in the anime Chika doesn't even recognize Dia on sight or realize Dia is in the year above hers.

Possibly, since they haven't even exchanged lines, but they do have a pretty funny dynamic from the Strawberry Trapper audio drama. Kind of like if you were to ship Nico and Eli or Rin and Nozomi; they're in the same unit, but not a fan favorite.

Yohane/Hanamaru isn't that popular at all compared to Yohane/Riko. It's mostly just a few tumblrinas screaming for people to validate them and their ludicrous "headcanons". I'm almost afraid of how insufferable they're going to be now that the anime added a childhood friendship (?) between them. On the other hand, Yohane/Riko already have assorted suggestions at mutual interest, and their CVs not only ship it and show their support in a semiofficial capacity, they also have a close relationship out of character that shippers jumped on quickly.

Those same people thought Dia/Mari would fit the "classy lesbians" trope until Koi ni Naritai AQUARIUM was released, so...? And even Kanan/Mari, which had a lot of support in official materials and CVs shamelessly into each other, now has an undercurrent of antagonism thanks to the anime.
Anyway, what I'm saying is, we should be able to ship what we like, but the anime is introducing so many new things that may either bolster or contradict the existing "big" ships.

A popular theory going round is that the third-years used to be in a school idol group of their own, based on how surprisingly much Dia knows about the Love Live competition and Kanan's hesitation when Chika said she wanted to start a group. Add the (old?) setting of Mari as the one writing Aqours' music, and it might be, as one fanartist depicted, a situation like what could have happened if Kotori really went overseas at the end of season 1, and Mari left the group/Uranohoshi as a first-year. Then Kanan/Mari will have to make up after their breakup.
Another suggested possibility is that the Oharas, having interests in relation to tourism, may pose a threat to the mom-and-pop family businesses like the shop run by Kanan's grandpa. Well, of course they are not 100% similar and I wouldn't want them to be a carbon copy of NicoMaki but they are still pretty similar in some notable ways. Like how Yohane is the little devil/memekid of the group and Riko is the easily embarrassed redheaded piano composer. Plus the age difference and the visual likeness like you've said. Also, the sudden popularity that seemingly came out of nowhere and gets people confused kek.
We'll have to see what the anime has to offer but if YohaRiko gets even more popular despite lack of interaction in the anime (if we don't get much) by the time the first season ends, expect lots of surprise fanservice in season 2à la NicoMaki

I don't have concrete numbers to back this up, but from what I've seen, it didn't come out of nowhere. The amount of fanworks grew steadily, there wasn't a sudden huge explosion. We could say the same of NicoMaki as well, though that is a discussion perhaps better left for another time and was already covered before anyway.
Although now that we're drawing comparisons, support from the respective CVs must have helped, as did their offscreen friendships. Just like how Soramaru and Pile openly fueled NicoMaki before cameras and referred to/posted about each other affectionately on their blogs and social media; KyanRika also have indicated their shipping tendencies for YohaRiko and make wisecracks at and about each other on Twitter, go out together a lot, have good stage chemistry, etc.
