(If not to say impossible) to translate clearly into English. It is a consistent problem with translating two languages whose origins are different.
Of course if you can do it yourself, then please do it. Not everyone is top-notch translator after all.

That's why translation is an art and not a technical skill.
Learning a language is a pretty easy thing to pull off, you just need dedication and time. Translating something requieres a lot more than just knowing the source and target languages, you need writing skills and cultural awareness on both cultures. It's a really hard thing to do right.

They sometimes try to localize way too much too. Like changing the references "famous whatever comedian" to "famous local comedian" and usually fail miserably at it.
Localization is necessary, though. In the Spanish version of the Sailor Moon manga you can see a perfect example of why. They botched a line that went "Casablanca means white house in Spanish" because they didn't localize it. The line in the manga went published as "Casablanca significa (means) Casa Blanca en (in) Español (Spanish)." Which is freaking stupid.

When Japanese do foreign characters it's either fluent nihonese, hilariously broken english, or just the one phrase from the character's country of origin. It comes across as not really respecting the origin of the character they're trying to depict. Most modern warships also have a complement of standard torpedo tubes. The ships in this episode were Kongou-class destroyers (modified versions of a US design) which are equipped with 2 triple-tube torpedo launchers.
The weapons they used were RUM-139 ASROC (Anti-Submarine Rocket), which are rocket-boosted torpedoes. The point of that system is to give a longer range than a conventional torpedo.
As for why they used ASROC instead of conventional torpedoes in this episode, probably just because they look cooler.

Yes, that's the whole point of ASROC (it also conserves the fuel onboard the torpedo itself.) But the engagement with the Musashi was carrier out at close range, and conventional torpedoes would have easily reached.
The much dumber part of the episode was how the Kongous don't even try defend themselves from Musashi's fire with their Phalanx systems, and just instantly get hit. Yet when Harekaze comes under fire, it has plenty of time to manually direct its 10cm guns and take potshots at the incoming shells.

I'm just a little disappointed that it went so crazy, I was hoping for something a little more intuitive.
Like at first I was genuinely curious as to why seemingly coordinated mutinies were happening but when it became obvious it was something super-natural, it just felt like a cop out.
I would of been a lot happier with it if they made the world more explicitly not ours, so the fantastical elements would fit in a little better.
Anyway there's still over half the season left, so maybe it will surprise me with something.

Why would you think that? It fires armor-piercing tungsten rounds at 4500rpm, and the Musashi's shells are certainly large enough to be detected and hit (and are packed full of explosives).
A ground-based version of the Phalanx, the Centurion, is used by the US Army to defend against artillery and mortar attacks. So why would the Phalanx itself not be effective against naval artillery?

Well, Mike was never a good captain nor did she want to. She just studied "How to be a captain 101" for the exam, she didn't expect to them to give her the actual role. Episode 2 and 3 made it clear that she was struggling with the role. In the end, all Mike ever wanted was to be in the same school and if possible, on the same ship with Moka.

Different cultures have different ideals and rules. Your idea of a court marshal-able offense isn't necessarily what exists in the shows world/time.
Compare this show to Star Trek and Star Trek the Next Generation. Both of those captains went on solo away missions, so why shouldn't this anime's captain not be allowed the same freedom?

As I recall very early on in TNG Riker explicitly called out Picard for ordering himself on an away mission and stated that a captain's place is on the starship. And Picard agreed with him. That was one of the things in TNG that they made sure was different from TOS.

I figured they were going to ship Germany-chan and Shiro after the put them in the same room, but even with the last episode being the perfect chance for it they did nothing to reinforce that.
