I agree his storyline in the beginning is boring, but there's a point around the end of Season 4 i'd say where the King's Landing and Tyrion storylines start fizzling out and the Northern story becomes the most important and easiest to invest in and Jon is at the forefront of that. At first I hated Stannis. I felt that he was being a huge baby over being king when no one even liked him and was still salty over him killing Renly. Originally, I had only seen the last two episodes of S5 so I was glad that he got what was coming to him.

I don't think anyone hates Jon, but I just can't understand why anyone would love Jon either. I don't know why anyone would feel strongly about this character.
He's just way too fucking bland and boring, in a character full of fascinating characters. He's got a great storyline, sure, but it's not because of Jon. It would still be a great storyline if Edd was the PoV.
And if all these fan theories about Jon being the Chosen One or the Destined King end up being true, he's become even more of a boring character. Just total fan insertion into the story. Jon as a character just doesn't really fit well into ASOIAF
