I don't understand how people can seriously be confused about his suicide. He loved his wife. He was the kind and caring sort of person that would be affected by the deaths of many, many innocents. He was serious about the Faith and just watched the most holy place get obliterated with all of its members inside, including the High Septon that he looked up to and was fond of (even if just because he was easily manipulated) and was kind of his only real father figure.
