What happened to all the characters, guys?
Season 1 had side characters in every scene, everyone had a story to tell, and the world felt genuinely big. There was Old Nan, Jory Cassel, Syrio, the butcher's boy, Rodrik Cassel, Jon's friends at the wall, even Dany's hand maidens. We saw a lot of extra characters in season 3 with Robb too, all the heads of various houses and their relations. Each book had pages and pages at the end, detailing who was in which house, and related to which characters.
All that's left now are the main cast, there's no extras anymore. The world feels fucking tiny instead of massive.

It's not hard to do, either. Old nan had like 4 scenes, and we mostly knew about Jory by just seeing him alongside Ned rather than doing particularly any talking. The same can be said for Jon's now dead friends at the wall.

This scene was one of the few times I felt that GoT actually did something right. Jon is one of the few heroic characters on the show. He selflessly put himself in danger to try and save a half-brother he hardly knew (whose actual sister just wrote him off as dead), fails, and decides to fearlessly charge headlong into the enemy. Compare that with Caloreesi, who sits back and has her OP dragons and eunuch army do everything while she gets off on a bunch of brown people kissing her feet.
Shit like this scene is what fantasy is about, not Tyrion quipping or Dany talking about "muh feminism"...probably the closest GoT will ever get to anything resembling Tolkien.
