So is it possible that show was only briefly bad for last half of season 5 and boring and straightforward during the beginning of this one, but that people making it still have what it takes in them to make a great finale and a great show overall? Outside of the whole story thing - why was the last bran scene so fucking horrendous in effects/camera action than any other scene in the show? What the fuck happened? That's just about inevitable without resorting to an omniscient narrator or at least one either consisting of or privy to the protagonist's inner thoughts. Think of really good, successful adaptations - Fight Club, American Psycho, Trainspotting, yeah? All had or at least intermittently resorted to narration from the protagonist. Fight Club is basically built on it.
Maybe there are legitimately great adaptations that don't resort to it but I can't really think of one. It's tough to overcome the limitations of the screen compared to prose when it comes to conveying inner thoughts.
