>The only wildlings Tormund managed to convince to return to Castle Black are those we see in the last few episodes, that is not an army. Why would Tormund take only a small number of those he 'leads' if he does 'lead' more?

Because it's a TV show with a limited budget retard and they didn't need to hire hundreds of extras for a small scene

>She's still Sansa Bolton, though

If Sansa had somehow escaped her marriage to Tyrion and went back to Robb, would they have said NOPE YOU CAN'T BE HERE YOU'RE SANSA LANNISTER NOW, for real? If Jon's faction wins, the marriage doesn't count.

>Why would they want her to rule Winterfell?

Because she is the last known living Stark. Sweetrobin is still Lord of the Vale even though he's a retard. That's how their society works, dummy.

>The north is also mostly a shambles, the Freys are still strong, taking the Vale bannermen north would leave the Vale at risk, the Tyrells are still hugely powerful and there's more reason than ever to support the authority of the crown since everyone is currently vying for influence over it!

The Vale is a mountainous region and the Eyrie is near impossible to assault. The Tyrells are dealing with a full scale uprising in King's Landing plus are about to get invaded by the Ironborn. They really wouldn't give a shit and wouldn't pick a fight with the Vale when there's bigger fish to fry

Except she was never properly married to Tyrion because it wasn't consummated.

The Vale have no idea that the Tyrells might get invaded and even considering the natural strength of the land it would be utterly fucking stupid to send out bannermen to go fight for some vague sense of loyalty to someone that only a few at the top care about.

You really are grasping at straws, please think about how illogical what you're saying is.

The only reason people would fight for Sansa would be to take Winterfell so she can be safely at home again.

Anyone in the north other than a possible Manderly/Umber/whoever conspiracy to give Winterfell to Rickon would only become involved if they could seize power themselves. Why would anyone fight hard for somewhere for some old loyalty so that someone completely inexperienced can rule them? She can't rule, it doesn't make sense, and even if she was to be put in charge the houses would all fight among themselves for who got to help her/marry her/stick around.

With Rickon it makes a bit more sense, because he's a male Stark, but that's limited scope for who could fight (and doesn't make sense for them to go to Jon).

There's no way that Jon is reasonably going to get an army unless they retcon what they've heavily established about the wildling refugees. Houses also have no way of knowing his intention. If there is a battle/taking of Winterfell, it will be for Rickon and part of a northern power play, not for Sansa.
>>
How can Jon sentance Alliser and them to death, then say his watch has ended?

I get the whole "he died yadda yadda" but he was acting as Lord Commander. He passed the sentance so he swung the sword, so he was still bound by Oath.

Bolton is gonna chop his head off for desertion

>>

It makes no sense for the books because they'd have to go via The Twins, which would alert the Boltons to their attack well in advance and put the Vale at a huge disadvantage.

D&D have probably forgotten about The Twins by now, but it would still be fucking stupid and probably only if CIA or Robert marries Sansa.

1 and 2 are the only accurate ones.

Nothing in the oath says that the Nights Watch must keep wildlings out. They only did so because the others were thought to be a myth. Once it became evident they weren't, letting them have a huge as fuck army became a liability.

And 4, he died. His watch ended. Technically he fulfilled his oath. It's a technicality but it has merit.

I'm sick of seeing this. Ned never told his kids he won honorably. If anything, I think he said "I fought Arthur Dayne and would have been dead if it weren't for Howland Reed."

Honor is bullshit anyways, maybe it counts in the tourneys and tilts that they did, but in Ned's shoes, he's trying to save his sister and that's all. Doesn't give a shit how the people keeping her from him die as long as they die. He tries to be honorable by returning Dawn to Ashara among other things, but it is what it is.
>>
Literally what's the point of Sansa now that Jon is the one who's trying to re-take the north?

So then Winterfell will find out as soon as they land and can easily prepare, same predicament only they cannot possibly retreat if they lose.

Also how would this make sense for the show unless Sansa returned to the Vale somehow?

Also everything we assumed about what would happen in the north in the books was still while Stannis had a sizeable army.

>>
S6 Extra here, more "bullshit". believe me if you want, I only come as a messenger:

Next episode is going to be the big shocker of the season. Nobody expects it.

Jon has changed more than you know. He's not exactly a completely good guy now. So what does he do?

When Sansa arrives at Castle Black, there's a small timeskip. Jon has already learned of his parentage (I won't spoil who told him). Brienne basically demands that Jon swear his fealty to her and take back Winterfell in her name.

Jon refuses, and tells her to fuck off. He will be King now. Sansa is shocked and Brienne is enraged, who draws her sword on Jon. Jon narrowly beats her and then executes her in front of a horrified Sansa.

Hmmm... Good question.
Jon's focus is defeating the white walkers. So I imagine he's going to fight to secure the north, and then travel around to gather as many men he can.
In the mean time, Rickon is going to be positioned as the occupying Stark, keeping their claim on Winterfell.
And Sansa is going to be locked down with Robert Arryn(Robin), in order to secure the Vale.

Well he did win, technically.

I'm also using books as canon, not what Bran said this past episode.

>In a memory of his father, Bran Stark recalls his father Eddard describing Arthur as the finest knight he ever saw, and elaborates further that Arthur would have killed him if not for Howland Reed. According to Catelyn Stark, Arthur was the deadliest of the seven knights of Aerys's Kingsguard.

Sansa will be betrothed to Robin.

Brienne still needs to find Arya, as she promised lady Catelyn.

Varys has a deeper plot that they're going to unveil later. But for now, he's playing it cool.

Tyrion is meant to fix the city of Meereen. Also, he can apparently communicate with the dragons.

Littlefinger man is trying to wed Robin to another lord, so he can weasel his way into owning another kingdom.

Dany is supposed to fail. We're just watching it step by step. She will survive, but lose Meereen.

No, Shortround is Tyrion.

Why the fuck are they even bothering to help Dany at this point? The dumb bitch is gone, her city is falling to pieces and her two cucklords have gone on a magical journey to find her.

They can't go back to Westeros, obviously, but it makes no sense for them to stick around in Mereen, the city is a sinking ship. They'd be better off just aligning themselves with one of the other cities.

And Robb could have simply crossed at Lord Harroway's Town and Riverrun and avoided the events leading to his death, what a fucking idiot. If only they had this map!

Seriously, please rewatch/reread the story and mentions of The Twins, that map is irrelevant and misleading.

Unless you're going to say that everything said about The Twins was wrong, and that Robb and his army really were stupid enough to not know they could have taken another route.

In fact it's even harder for CIA to get an army up because even going NEAR the Twins will end up alerting the Boltons. They don't need to get north, they need to get there with the element of surprise.

Are you retarded?
Riverrun is on the north end of the Red Fork and The Twins are on the Green Fork. The Twins are necessary to maintain a supply of troops and equipment and information as efficiently as possible. When coming down the King's Road and trying to get to the Westerlands through the Riverlands it is necessary unless you want to go all the way around the Green Fork entirely which would mean traversing the Swamps of the Neck. That is literally why it is called the Green Fork, because it is murky with moss from the swamps that feed into it.

>Ethan Glover, who had been Brandon’s squire;
>Ser Mark Ryswell, soft of speech and gentle of heart;

It could have been better in many ways, but it was nowhere near as bad as people are trying to make it seem. The dialog from the book, while good, doesn't translate well to the tv format. I can even see why they merged Gerold and Whent into one person, though I wish he would have looked more like the former.

The real shame is them not deciding to use Dawn. Even keeping the pretty silly dual wielding and making Dawn a longsword would have still been a decent nod to the book readers while not requiring any exposition on the shows part for the show-only viewers..
>>
>>69368904

>>

Books 4 and 5 were shit for the most part, I agree. 5 was shit because of fucking Dany, and Dany alone. She's the worst character for a reason.

That being said, both books had some superb parts. Davos' in Dance (the Manderly stuff) was fantastic. Brienne and Jaime were great. Tyrion is fucking overdone, but not as bad as Dany, simply because the stuff with Jorah and fake Aegon are intersting. Jon was great in Dance. Reek was one of the best POV's in the series.

When he said "Do your duty", I thought that would have reminded her that her duty, first and foremost, is to protect the surviving Stark children, particularly Sansa. I honestly thought that she just struck the tree in anger or something and let him live, which is why we see her in the first episode of this season with a pristine Oathkeeper, not a drop of blood on it when she attacks the Boltons.

These hopes were shattered of course when I learned that Dillane has been talking mad shit about the show. If he really was alive, I doubt that Dungeons and Dragons would allow him to shit-talk them and the show like that.

You know, I think it's more just sort of implied, given that wielding Dawn in battle is sort of the Sword of the Morning's job (and privilege).

Honestly, does anything shock you anymore in this show? There was a shock/plottwist every episode for the past 4-5 episodes. Nothing can surprise me at this point.

If the spoilers for the season are true, then there's literally nothing interesting except
Daario is the Harpy. That truly would surprise me

I understand that A version of Dawn is in the show, but it is nothing like how it is described in the books. They could make a pale, even pure white sword prop to use if they wanted to.

The wouldn't even need to change the dual wielding (which is an effective way of communicating to the casual viewer that this person is supposed to be exceptional) or go into the story of it at all.

Bran and Bloodraven were already hyping up Dayne, I'm sure the normal viewer could accept easily that the greatest swordsman has a special snowflake sword. After all, special swords are ingrained in western culture, even if the common man never reads any arthurian legends or the like.
>>
>>69369113
>Has a sun on it

It IS Dawn, it just isn't the same as its described in the books

They did.

You know, there was evidence that Brienne spared him and you highlight it

>Brienne's job is to save the girls
>She abandons the lookout to find Stannis, missing the candle
>Stannis reminds her to do her job (not consciously of course)
>Thus, she foregoes revenge to hunt down Sansa

This is acceptable writing. Better than:
>She chooses revenge over saving Sansa and STILL has the plot armor to do both. FUCK

The fact Dawn was even in the show surprised me, since there was literally only 2 Kingsgaurd.

To be pedantic, Dawn in the books is actually described visually as being nothing like Valyrian steel yet having the same properties of incredible durability and sharpness.

I suppose I misspoke when I said that he was talking shit. He does say that he only did it for a paycheck, doesn't actually watch the show because its not his taste, and admits that he got no real personal satisfaction from it. But he also praises it later in the interview I guess.

Just the vibe I got for it heavily implied that he was finished with the series.

Tormund dick jokes are fine in my book, as that's literally his character. Tyrion takes it too far, even though Dinklage does the acting part of it well enough. I might not like neo-Tyrion, but Dinklage does fine I think.

To think I was hyped about him and Varys working together... I loved their interactions in the second book. Too bad it'll neve rhappen again

Show audiences know about valyrian steel and know about its aesthetic. if tye introduced a pale white sword all of a sudden, how would the viewers know if the sword is good or bad ?
>>
>>69369413
I thought she was okay. Ambitious and had a plan with motives beyond revenge that didn't involve killing the family of that she was avenging. She was a thousand times better than show Ellaria Sand.
>>
>>69369333
Brienne's first few chapters were her doing nothing, and the reader knew she was going the wrong way. Nimble Dick improved it slightly, Tarly had barely a page of interactions, etc. So there you go: first 2-3 chapters are crap.

The books had great character interactions. Every Jaime, Cersei chapter were grand.

Yea, not sure why, I just couldn't see what he would gain from being the Harpy. I know it would never be Hizdar though.

Nice trips.

Answering your question accurately would require surveys at the very least, so anything I say is complete conjecture.

However, ever since the legend of Excalibur, special swords have been a common cultural thing in the West. If a sword is visually distinctive to a great degree, I would imagine even your average viewer would come to the conclusion that it was a special sword, especially if it is being wielded by someone who is stated to be the best fighter alive.
>>
>>69369447
Books 4 and 5 drag their feet. That's the overall problem with them. Not necessarily how many bad character chapters there are. But the fact that, every chapter happens so closely in succession to the previous. Time hardly moves. It takes forever to execute any plan.

Well in any case they might as well have not resorted to half-measures of making it KIND OF like Dawn. They might as well have just had him wielding two general swords instead of half-assing it. If they didn't want to give us Dawn, I can move past that, I do have a problem with the fact that they knew what book fans wanted to see, knew that it would confuse show-watchers and tried to compromise. But that compromise only really served to highlight the lack of Dawn as readers have come to know and love it. You don't have a lightsaber be a wooden stick and tell me its the same. Does it have any actual impact on the plot? No. But it was fucking cool and imaginative and disappointing not to get it
>>
>>69369671
I agree. It did drag.
