I think the fact everyone important from the wall is dead (4 died this episode) or leaving/left (Jon/Sam) means that the wall is coming down very soon and Edd is going to be our perspective of that happening. When Jon leaves the wall expect the next scene where they show the wall to be fucking lit (Around the finale 100%).
