I remember when Varys used to have great conversations with Littlefingers. They were very vague but gave the impression they were the real rulers of Westeros. Varys for peace and prosperity, Littlefinger motivated purely by greed and a lust for power. It was subtle, and their motivations were never totally explained but enough was happening that they were attached to that felt like they were going to be the major players.
That feeling of scale is gone, we're at a point of the show where all this amazing stuff should be happening but it's just bland. The set up was far better.

in blackwater, we had good battle/fight sequences, some special effects on the seafront, commander scenes from Joff and Tyrion on the battlements, but it would be paced well with scenes back in the Red Keep to kind of balance the tension well, so you can have room to breathe in between the action. it kind of also helps to have some dialogue in an action-heavy episode, and show what's going on right outside of the battle.
castle black did this as well, with small bits of quiet non-action like where sam and gilly talk, sam and pyp talk, jon, alliser, janos and edd on top of the wall etc.
hardhome was purely action but it was allowed to do this because it was only a 20 minute sequence of action
if bastardbowl is a full hour long episode, then what's going to keep a steady pace to the episode? what will be the slower scenes?

It's 100% canon that Dayne used Dawn in live combat. People fail to understand that greatswords being these huge bad clunky things is a meme purported by video games and dumb fantasy novels. Medievil people would not have forged greatswords if they did not kill people effectively. There were many techniques for fighting in extreme close quarters with a two-handed sword as long as your body - and even some for fighting multiple opponents at once with one. Dayne's style is completely possible.
