I did read the books even before the series started and first seasons had some good oc, for example war stories scene from s1. Also Locke, he was much better than cartoonish Vargo Hoat and the brave companions.
Last two season were terrible though, I don't know what the hell has happened, but it just doesn't feel right. Maybe Dabids got bored and don't care anymore since the show is going to make milions no matter what they put into it.
