Roose is killed in front of the Karstark who's threw in with infamously cruel and mad Ramsay for no reason. Balon didn't have any guards watching over his quite clearly treacherous passage - there was nobody in the windows watching their king? Nobody at either side of the bridge? He's socially awkward and pretty much only sees the world in black or white. But he does change over time. He compromises with the wildlings, he compromises with the Northern clans. He wins over the Northern families through gaining hack their territory rather than screaming at them about duty. He keeps Melisandre's power in check despite it being useful to him.
His growth as a character makes him interesting. But Stannis is by no means flawless. It's why I originally stated a Stannis rule with Renly as heir would've been ideal.

When D&D kill characters, nobody gives a shit. There are no repercussions. The characters say ha nobody likes you or they don't say anything at all. Everybody just goes on with their day. It ultimately means nothing. That should give you a clue as to how shallow their writing is. Nothing has weight anymore.
season 1 was a completely faithful adaptation of GRRM's book which produced a good story
Season 2 and 3 also followed A Clash of Kings and Storm of Swords closely but slowly started to change things and add in fan fiction
Season 4> is completely construed shit writing because D&D said fuck the books and wrote their own fan fiction story in which doesn't reflect the books whatsoever.

In earliest seasons and in the book his quips are specifically ment to fuck with people, You never see him be quippy or vulgar with people below his status, only his equals and superiors in a given situation. Tyrion uses his wits specifically to screw with people so he can get past the bullshit, and throw them off their game. It's how he survives. When he becomes hand of the king in aCoK he gets more serious and stops most of the witty banter because there's weight to the situation he's in and the banter serves no purpose.
When he's being quippy with a eunuch, a slave, and another eunuch, it serves no point and is pretty much just writing him being witty without understanding the purpose behind the words he uses. In other words it's just more subpar writing from Dabid.

Personally, I'd like to see the sand snakes get dropped ASAP. The shortest route to doing that, as I've said, is the route show has taken so far. Whether or not they actually do that remains to be seen, but I'm hopeful. And I've already said a large part of why I don't care is that I found Dorne boring as fuck in the books also. If you're a big Dorne fan from the books, I don't even see why you'd care, virtually everyone agrees the show served Dorne poorly in any case.

Ramsay's strongest allies are with him only out of convenience and because "fuck the Starks" and they would turn against him if wronged by the psycho or if an alliance was no longer convenient.

I was not seriously suggesting that you are a big fan of the sneks, rather, I was calling attention to the fact that all of your suggested alternatives would require far more focus on the snakes than we've even had so far. Thus, for you to suggest that this was in fact what I was suggesting is, technically,a straw man argument.
