Yeah true. This worked in the early seasons because "Oh shit didn't expect Ned (the main character) to die." Also worked with the Red Wedding because so many characters die you sort of don't really expect that. These only work because they make sense and feel realistic, the build up to Ned having his head cut off was pretty good and you weren't really sure till the end exactly what was going to happen, but it all feels right and it actually makes logical sense.
Now we've just got shit tier stuff like Roose dying just because with no build up. Stannis dying makes no sense as he's supposed to be one of if not the best strategist in Westeros, yet he gets outsmarted by some bastard retard. Same thing with D&D rage quitting the Dorne storyline
