While the cut to Pyke suggests they meant Pyke, a good editor/director/whatever could use that to make people think he meant Pyke when he said home, to make it a bit of a surprise when he's suddenly back at Winterfell next time we see him, and to make that more powerful as the viewer realises he's not going home to safety at all.
A manned-up Theon as the Ghost of Winterfell sabotaging Ramsay's plans could be pretty neat, if they're going to bother bringing that plot up.

Well the first problem is they can't write for shit. The dialogue is just fucking awful.
The second problem is the completely missed the point the character deaths in the series. They weren't done for le ebin twists.
If you look at Tywin, Ned, Robb, Joffery, Renly, etc. their deaths are the logical outcomes to huge build ups that have immediate consequences and impact to the story. Every character for a thousand miles reacts and is affected by those deaths.
When D&D kill characters, nobody gives a shit. There are no repercussions. The characters say ha nobody likes you or they don't say anything at all. Everybody just goes on with their day. It ultimately means nothing. That should give you a clue as to how shallow their writing is.
