The show is too fractured. S1-3 were centered around King's Landing, North and Riverlands. Nowadays you have different mini Game of Thrones going in in Winterfell, Castle Black, Iron Isles, The Vale, Dorne, King's Landing and Meereen. But they involve only a small cast of 1-3 regulars and 2-4 secondaries/tertiaries. The plots don't seem meaningful or interesting because they are not: Dorne's leadership change does not send any ripples, because the show only focuses on inter-great house relations and those aren't affected by infighting.
The great example of this is Iron Isles from S2-4. They conquered a large part of The North - 1/4 or so, and burnt down Winterfell. Yet, they had less than scenes altogether, and all the invasions in North were just spoken of except for a brief S4 subplot. It has three or so characters, and Kingsmoot looks like it is going to denegerate to just to Bad Candidate and Good Candidate.
The beauty of S1-3 was to show how the interrelated network of actors connected by few key areas broke down by just two deaths in a matter of months, and ultimately led to Red Wedding. But afterwards, its just the show having 6-8 miniscule, usual TV show tier, networks that aren't all that meaningful for big picture, because there is not one.

No, the Blackfyre's split so far back in history literally no-one believes they have any legitimate claim on the throne.
Like this is literally the whole point of Robert's Rebellion, the Targs are all either Targs or Blackfyres but they accidentally let a full blooded targ marry into the Baratheon's so now Robert/Stannis/Renly have claims on the throne if every other targ were to die.
The line of succession at the time of rebellion was literally:
Rhaegar -> Aegon -> Viserys -> Robert -> Stannis -> Renly -> Blackfyre's
Now, none of this actually matters, Robert didn't win the throne because of his blood so much as the fact that he killed everyone who stood in his way but the point is that Targ loyalists, who are all autists about blood purity and the rightful king, will not but a Blackfyre on the throne if there is someone else in front of them in line.
