Is Contagion worth watching?
>>66569938
its pretty accurate as it shows that the whoreness of whores will destroy this world, one way or another
Pretty realistic, except for Jude Law's annoying Aussie character
How did she catch the virus? From who? Room service?
Nothing great but worth a watch
>>66570047
Tired and didn't follow safety protocol. Only has to happen once. Anyway, good movie. Needed more Marion Coillard though
I forgot the ending, wasthe virus entirely intentional or just a result of shithole conditions?
>>66570249
Shithole conditions, bats shitting on third world pigs
The moral is to never leave the borders of your own country
>>66570047
Did you even watch the end of the movie?
Also, it's worth a watch. But after seeing it once, just play Pandemic instead.
>>66569938
yeah i liked it a lot
>>66570249
it was from a pig eating fruit dropped by a bat with some bat disease. It was transmitted to the pig as a whole new illness, which could then jump to humans
Didn't need to be a shithole for that to happen, just a region where fruit bats live naturally

Contagion is my favorite "intertwining stories" movie.
when you have this many characters (and so many who die) you pretty much need to have an ensemble cast so people can easily tell them apart
Definitely worth watching, nice warm up for The Division next week.
>>66570322
What? That isn't Gwyneth Paltrow you know
I just watched this on Sunday. I thought it was great for the most part. Some of the character's stories were a lot better than others, though... like I thought Marion Cotilliard's story with the abduction was kinda pointless. The music was really good most of the time, though occasionally it felt a little out of place. I loved how shamelessly scientific and procedural the movie was too. I heard lots of people hated it because they expected explosions and action scenes, but this movie tried to make it as realistic as possible.
So if I liked Contagion, how does Side Effects compare? I heard it was similar and it's also by Soderbergh
>>66569938
Yes.
As a public health expert working for the WHO I can actually vouch for the realism in the movie, of course with some added Hollywood issues that any movie must exhibit.
They even show the real WHO "war room" which was a nice touch, and most scientists agree on fruit bats as main virus hosts.
They even show the real
>>66571159
Jude Law's character's story bored me for some reason. Seeing the masses react to his conspiracy theories and false cure claims as the panic spread was great, but the character himself was boring and annoying at times. It would've been better if it only showed him whenever he interacted with other main characters or when they watched his video blogs

>"As a public health expert working for the WHO I can actually vouch for the realism in the movie"
>WHO Public health expert
>posting on 4chan
okay then...
so what exactly is it that you do for the WHO?

Encephalitis is fucking horrifying. It is the severe infection and inflammation of the brain (as seen in patients with Rabies), and once someone starts showing symptoms of it they are pretty much doomed:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQoHVc5j3Jw
The virus in this movie (what was it called again?) was like a new, 100x faster and more contagious version of rabies
>It’s pleomorphic, but tends toward ovoid in shape. I can see some structures on the surface that look like glycoproteins, but there’s nothing morphologically pathognomonic.
What did she mean by this?
Maybe the only realistic movie on this subject
>>66569938
Yes
very underrated movie.
If you want to see a realistic portrayal of how a pandemic would affect the world watch this.
Its been awhile since I've watched this but was was marions storyline in this?
>>66574318
>Demetri Martin
I'll never understand why
>>66574318
I have no fucking idea.
>>66574318
>>66574697
she means that, from their early observations, the new virus can:
change shape depending on its host, but it prefers to be oval shaped. She notes that, while she can see some glycoproteins on the virus's surface (which can be used for virus attachment to cells), the virus cell itself is not "pathagnomonic," meaning it doesn't have characteristics of any particular known disease. So it's something they've never seen before.
>>66574957
Oh, cool.
>>66574615
>Its been awhile since I've watched this but was was marions storyline in this?
Something with Chinese kids
>>66574615
>>66575170
Essentially just being there for plot exposition of that part of the world.
>>66574615
she was in the World Health Organization, and went to Hong Kong to look at all the surveillance footage of patient-zero (Gwyneth Paltrow) at the casino. The point of her character was to piece together how the virus originated and to find out who were the first to get infected and how.
See webm in this post: >>>/wsg/971356
It was stupid that she got kidnapped, probably the worst part of the movie IMO.
It's better than that other one where the disease comes from a monkey and they just so happen to find the monkey it originated from after it fled into a random forest somewhere in the whole United States, and it was a coincidence they found it too.
>>66569938
I saw it in he theater 5 years ago and I liked it.
>>66569938
It was a truly horrifying movie mostly owing to the real possibility of it actually happening. It feels real
Makes the movie actually not that enjoyable, even though it's good
>>66569938
My cousin was in is movie. He was the first one to die.
>>66570047
she was maybe my favorite character.. so sad how she dies
>>66569938
why the fuck do they put actor names under the wrong photos? looks so fucking amateurish.
>>66577845
they do that on every movie cover/poster. The names are always placed in alphabetical order, while the pictures are placed however the fuck the producers want them to be
>dude martial law is not that bad lmao
>>66578068
I support martial law when it gets to the point where there are roving bands of armed looters and robbers everywhere
The contagion in this movie is called "MEV-1"
I'm almost positive the "E.V." in "M.E.V." stands for "Encephalitis Virus."
So what would the "M" stand for, I wonder?
>>66577929
>The names are always placed in alphabetical order
You sure about that, pal?
>>66579902
Mexicans
Speaking of Soderbergh movies, how was Side Effects?
>>66579902
probably "Massive" or something like that because it happened so fast and so severely. The S in SARS is for "severe"
>>66580439
Don't watch this movie unless you want a permanent fear of door knobs.
This shit is the most terrifying horror for me
I haven't really liked much of Soderbergh's stuff since Traffic. Most of it feels so superficial. He does really try to be intimate with his storytelling but somehow it always feels very impersonal.
What was her fucking problem?
Yeah, best one in spectrum of disseas disasterous films.
Yeah, it's an amazing movie that went over the heads of most plebs (here included). It's basically an end of the world movie done right.
If you're a tasteless imdb pleb for sure
It's a film for adults.
>>66581179
American?
>>66581237
imdb gives it a 6.6
Its pretty good. I liked it even more the second time I saw it.
Really liked it to be honest. The microbiological aspects that they talk about are based on facts so it was really enjoyable to watch.
>>66581179
Dunno but I don't think she survived
>>66580439
I LOVED Contagion, but somehow hated Side Effects. Has a decent plot, but somehow fails to deliver.
Probably that's why he came back from his "Side Effects is my last movie" statement & decided to direct something else after it; go out with a bang, you know.
>>66570047
maybe when she ordered taco bell, or when she talked on her phone or with her mask around her neck. She seemed to be following safety protocols better than her main colleague, and he didn't get infected, so I guess it was just bad luck.
>>66583427
Soderbergh is a troll. he won't give up movies. he practically shadow directed magic mike 2.
pretty much everything he does underwhelms me. They're all on the cusp of being great, but they're too emotionally cold and formally calculated to go all the way. Behind the Candelabra was tons of fun though.
>>66570047
It was me, Kate
>>66581179
>local govt official thinks the feds are invading her turf meme
>>66570150
That Stockholm Syndrome with her in the chink jungle village top kek, I bet she got raped by every single on there
>>66574696
He did an alright job though, imo.
I like it when comedians get bit roles like that.
I should really rewatch this. I liked it a lot at the time, but I haven't seen it since release.
>>66569938
It's pretty good, a comfy watch that doesn't exaggerate like most Hollywood films in this genre do
>>66580439
>how was Side Effects?
Started well, completely falls apart in the 3rd act
