Plus it's probably miles away from Dollard's original idea since Moffat said he made her rewrite it to include Clara's death. It didn't have Rigsy, Ashildr, the fake murder mystery and Clara dying. Why did the doctor not just dump river after finding out that while he's not around she murders people, cares about nothing but money, steals his tardis when convenient for her and cheats on him with other men and women (heck she spoke of nights of passion) either to manipulate them or just for the heck of it? Behind his back she talks about the doctor as if he's some sort of tool for her to use but then when she realises the doctor was there all along she falls right back into her sweetie persona and the doctor fucking falls for it.

Minus all of the other characters, that is actually an interesting plot. Rather than have the memories of Christmas stolen, have it so somebody else has interfered with the timeline and stopped Christmas from ever being conceived in the first place. The lack of Christmas specials could be one of the repercussions of Christmas being erased. It starts to fuck with the Doctor's personal timeline (although being a complex time entity gives him some resistance to that sort of the thing/ the TARDIS is able to provide temporary protection like it has done in other stories)
