Episode V and VI are made by other directors, but George Lucas wrote the story.
Then he ruined the original trilogy with bullshit cgi and weird stuff (there exist no official dvd or blu-ray with the original movies in decent quality).
Then he fucked up episode 1 and made it a childrens movie to sell as much toys as possible.
Then he fucked up once again with episode 2 which also sucks balls ass fuck.
Then he didn't fuck up as much with episode 3 and it's the only decent movie of the prequels.
Now based J.J. Abrams took everything that made the original trilogy great and put in into a fucking awesome fucking
movie that felt like a perfect sequel and homage to Star Wars, and we finally got our first real Star Wars movie in 32 years.

Eh it's not that prequels are better per se, TFA is generally a better more competently done film but it also rather shallow and unoriginal one too and regresses the SW universe a lot to make it more similar to the original films. The prequels were deeply flawed and often times bad and cheesy but they added lots of interesting and cool things too, they weren't rehashes and were striving to expand the SW universe in interesting, bold ways they weren't trying to play it safe they were doing the opposite which I think is definitely something to appreciate about them even if they weren't best written or directed movies.

While the prequels were a disaster in every regard, at least they were something new and they could have told a really interesting story that would enrich the whole Star Wars universe.

The first new starwars movie needed to be exactly that, though. To remind people what was good about star wars. Beautiful cinematography, great special effects, stories of rises and falls, redemption and damnation, good versus evil presented in such a way that the temptation of evil (and good) is always present.
