The film makes it clear several times that Chewbaccas gun is incredibly powerful. He takes a full blast to the gut and keeps going when other people were blown away by the same attack. Even during the fight he is very clearly injured and stops twice to try and deal with the injury. He is still able to push past it and fuck up Finn. By the time he fights Rey, he has already accumulated several serious injuries.

Rey's got the force skills that helped her be good at lightsaber fighting with the little practice she had using the metal staff. This is similar to how Luke is able to make the shot into the Death Star with the practice he had shooting womp rats. Anakin was good at racing for some reason even though I don't really think he had much practice.
Maybe if Luke had grown up practicing fighting with a sword he wouldn't have need much training by Yoda for that.
