>>
What was the budget? Probably like $200m.
>>
Sequel will be canned by Disney. Calling it now
>>
And made $57 mil domestic. Thats $130 mil worldwide in one day. It'll cover its film budget in one weekend.

OP is fucking stupid
>>
>>63794995
the issue is that it's not a large enough proportion of it's box office from overseas to challenge Avatar.

Avatar literally earned more than twice what it earned in the US overseas. To get anywhere near Avatar, TFA would have to earn like $1.2 billion domestically at this rate.

Just so you understand what we're talking about ;^)
>>
>>63794769
a glib facsimile
>>
>>63795181
Except Avatar didn't even make 50mil its opening day nor did it do as well openings like Jurassic World. It got its money for staying in theaters months longer.

It only made $77 mil during its weekend opening and it took months for it to even get to 2bil.

Also what makes you think TFA won't do good oversees? Fucking Jurassic World made 1bil overseas

Stop acting like Avatar was this beast cause it is wasn't. If it was pulled like other films then it wouldn't break any records, but cause of muh 3D.

Never gonna happen. They invested too much in this. If this had utterly bombed, you could bet Disney's plans would still go ahead.
>>
>>63795465
People seem to forget Avatar's gross also includes the re-release run it had, what 6 months or a year later? Can't remember the time frame.
>>
>>63797050
Keep telling yourself that, I'm sure it helps rationalize the money you spent.
>>

>>

It sure as hell is not though. Add another 200mill and were closer to truth what they actually need to break even.
>>
>>63797050
Why isn't it shit? Explain in detail
>>
Avatar had people two weeks after release telling their friends to go see those "amazing" 3D effects.

People are walking out of Force Awakens saying "Was that it?" "Why the Helicopter panning shot?" "Why did every scene feel rushed?" "Why was it so predictable?"
>>
>>63797134
6 months. Those 6 months are how it got 2 million.
>>
>>63797191
New Hope isn't shit. This is basically a remake of New Hope with better effects. Therefore, this movie isn't shit.
>>
>>63797181
Everyone knows Star Wars doesn't make its bank from the ticket sales, it makes it from the toy sales.

Literally no franchise on this planet comes close to Star Wars in terms of toy sales.
>>
Add two more dollars to that estimate OP because my gf is dragging me to see this shit on Sunday
>>
>>63797323
I'm going to see it second time because I enjoyed it a lot.
>>
>>63797251
Is this what they consider in detail on your home board?
>>
>>63797385
Do you want me to write an essay? How many words?
>>
>>63795465
lol you didn't even get the point of my post

The Force Awakens has been out longer overseas but hasn't outearned its domestic total by more than 100% like Avatar did.

So it's impossible for it to reach $3 billion unless the ratio completely changes and people overseas suddenly flock to it. The overseas audience for Star Wars just isn't large enough.
>>
>>63797191
metacritic says so
>>

>>

You do realize that a lot of the branding comes from the product owners themselves approaching Disney and asking if they can use the Star Wars brand, right?
>>
You people are forgetting that Avatar did its money largely because of word of mouth and the 3D experience. TFA has nothing special to attract viewers beside the novelty the first two weeks. It's a mediocre movie with no gimmick

>Whiny Kylo Ren

I hated Kylo Ren as an actor. I didn't think he was right for the part, but in terms of a character he was pretty good. I think you're completely missing the point of his character. He's insecure, throws temper tantrums, unstable, and is somewhat confused as to what he's even doing. He's not confident in himself yet, and the film portrays that.

>Starkiller Base

Yadayada Death Star, yadayada, standard stuff for Star Wars films if you're not expecting this sort of story then I dunno what to tell you. You're also expecting real life science to somehow apply to the world that is Star Wars, when aliens and lightsabers and laser guns and etc. exist.

>Rey's quick grasp of the force

This one I'll give you. It was bullshit, she's a Mary Sue, and this is one of my big complaints about the movie.

>I don't think JJ Abrams understands how the force works

Other canon has shown what he was doing to be called as force stasis. It's never been in movies until now, and who says new force powers can't be brought into the movie aside from what we're already given with the source material?

>Snoke

We don't even know enough about him to decide on his character.

>BB-8

Seems you're rather alone in not liking him. I was indifferent towards him but everyone I knew enjoyed him heavily

>Han Solo

This was a good way for him to go out, It's probably obvious that Harrison Ford did not want to do three of these movies, and he's been begging for Solo's death ever since the end of ROTJ. He went out trying to save his son, it's a pretty good death in my eyes.

>Bring our son home

She's a mother who lost her son. She's not trying to rationalize as to what would actually happen afterwards, she just wants him back. Not really hard to grasp this concept.

but you're probably from EU or AUSKEK land, so you buy into western pop culture as well

theres literally no reason for the average chinese to care about SW any more than they care about any other action movie. The OT never made an impact on CN culture, we werent that open to hollywoodism back then

I do agree with this, the point was that they were never going to do with ticket sales. The toy sales are a huge part, though I'm not that confident over the toy sale from this particular episode but in general of SW merchandise. They've already made huge grabs in Lego sales in the last 10 years.

Hence I couldn't give a damn less about them or their opinions.

>only hardcore nerds will watch fucking STAR WARS 3 times
What the fuck are you smoking? I know people who watched Jurassic World and Avengers more than once. Hell I know some who watched GotG 3 times. Saying that it takes hardcore nerds to watch STAR WARS 3 times is fucking stupid
>>
>>63799193
Don't forget to add on the 100+ mil in pre-sales to that number.
>>
>>63799209
It is literally the most autistic thing you could do though. Watch same film repeatedly in theater in short time span.
>>
>>63799183
>thinking dogs and raccoons are any different than cows and chickens

cows are sacred in hinduism but you guys still eat macdonalds, no?

so why shouldnt we eat dog, even though its so sacred and taboo in western culture? (muh best animal friend :(( )

china matters because 1.5 billion people = $$$
>>

This doesn't surprise me.

Maybe cause its been one fucking day. Jesus you guys are autistic. Avatar didn't hit big til it's 2nd to 3rd week. You guys act like it was a hit on day one which it wasn't.
>>
>>63799343
>most of the world does this

No anon, they do not. 99% of people are just happy enough to see stuff once, its the 1% that for some reason need to see it again. Of course 1% of tens of millions is still several hundred of thousands.

I have a cousin who went to see the first Lotr movie several times, but he was a really huge fan of Tolkien stuff always. And he literally was one in hundred case in such.
>>
>>63799416
i dont get why people are so vehemously avatar.

like, who gives a literal fuck who is the #1 in the box office of all time.

star wars will still do (already did, really) amazing if it does or doesn't beat avatar.

and its not like you jackasses are being paid to defend avatar's title or something, so what gives with this elitism?

dogs may be loyal, so what? oxen pull the plow and you guys eat oxen. Pet dog =/= meat dog

pigs are as smart as dogs but nobody sheds a tear for porky when he gets made into bacon

that said, I dont really recommend eating dog. It has a really gamey taste.

I don't think it's shit, but whatever, suppose it is complete and utter garbage. Just the worst movie that's ever been in cinemas before.
Rotten Tomatoes has given it a confirmed fresh rating of 95% off the back of 261 (two hundred and sixty one) reviews with an average rating of 8.3.
That means that if you're somebody who chooses to go and see a movie based on whether or not it's going to be shit, this is a movie you're going to be drawn to.

There's a difference between buying a billboard to put your promo poster on and Kleenex paying you millions so they can put Kylo Ren on tissues.
>>
>>63800694
I won't ask for a source, because you might be right. But TPM has 212 reviews total and TFA has 261. TFA would literally need to recieve 237 consecutive negative reviews to drop to 50%.

>>
>>63800821
why would kleenex spend money to put faces for no reason on their tissues?

the tissue designs would be pointless in a month after the hype dies down

and the average consumer wouldnt buy X brand of tissue over Y brand just because it had star wars pictures over it, they odnt care enough, only the 0.001% hardcore nerd will

would you go out of your way to find and buy tissue with nicki minaj's face on it?

It wasn't even an issue of "cleaner" is better with Anchorman 2 though. It was like they shot a bunch of scenes multiple times and just chose the weaker and less focused takes for the "uncensored" version or whatever it was called. Oh and there was that musical number.

I remember seeing the original version thinking it was alright and then taking a friend to see the uncensored version and feeling like a fool for telling him it was worth seeing. Ended up walking out.
