Anyone else think the aliens are meant to represent the absurdity of this series? It's because of them that Peggy kills Rye and this whole mess begins, and it's because of them that somehow Peggy and Ed make it out of what should, by all accounts, be their grave.
I think it's supposed to be a fill in for the questions that don't have any good answers in this show. It's almost making fun of the narrator, who openly admits to not understanding why so much of this is happening. This show is about a retelling of events. In the 70's a state trooper in Minnesota spotted a UFO and called it in. This isn't showing what actually happened but an exaggeration of events that happened. If you dont understand this you're a fucking retard. The UFO makes perfect sense, mostly because there's a state trooper there to call it in and only a few other people alive who saw it. Also again the events are a retelling and not what actually happened so if we're going by Lou's story as a retelling then obviously he exaggerated the extent of the UFO.
