hey guys is this show as good as they say?
can i watch s2 and skip s1?
>>63425475
Every season is a self contained story. Season 2 is a prequel to season 1 with a few nods to season 1. So, you're good
>>63425475
You can, but they're both great. If season 3 is as good as the first 2 it will be the best television series in history to be honest senpai.
>>63425522
>>63425538
neat. i shall skip s1 then
This episode is scheduled for 11:05 or 11:15 IIRC. So not a long one.
Betting next week won't end until 11:30 or 12:00, or if they go all SAMCRO, wasn't one of those two and a half hours?
>>63425475
you can skip s1, but I don't know why you would because it's so good.

10/10 alien use.
My only question left is what the fuck is going to happen in the finale? all we are left with is ed and peg with hanzee on their trail. and then of course lou finding out his wife is dead.
That was pretty clever. So thanks to Hanzee, the Gerhardts are all wiped out save for Bear's boy and Dodd's girls and KC will sweep in and take over without much of a struggle.
friendly reminder that if you don't like the aliens you are a pleb and need to fuck off back to reddit

repost:
I've already explained my theory on BrettyGood but here it is:
We see UFOs twice: after Peggy hit Rye in the first episode and during this shooting.
We also now that the narration is unreliable, the narrator remarks multiple times that we don't really know some aspects of this story.
So the UFO question is simple: we see them only through the point of view of shocked, traumatized people.
Peggy sees one after hitting Rye, nobody else sees it. We've also seen her hallucinate after she stunned Dodd,
Lou sees the second one while being strangeld by Bear. No survivor makes any remark about the UFO (I guess Hamzee will die next episode so he won't be able to tell his version of the shooting). if you think about it every person who looked at the UFO died during the shooting (Bear included). Lou was also being strangled so the lack of Oxygen may have caused the hallucinations.
Don't worry guys, aliens are not canon.
That was a good ep but everyone is dying
Aliens in the first episode could have easily been explained by the drugs Rye was taking combined with the headlights on the balloon that was found on the ground.
I cannot see how this will be explained, and it really does ruin the show. I was so hyped when all the shooting was happening and never have I fallen so quickly.
>>63430989
There's also Milligan and the twin (they still have to deal with the KC mafia).
>>63431071
i thought rye saw them and got distracted in the road
>>63431071
That's a pretty good one. I guess it would also explain Bear seeing it considering that he had started to bleed out on account of the gunshots and his anger making his blood rush (in theory).
>>63431071
Ed made a comment about it.
>>63431071
did peggy even see the ufo when she hit rye?
thought he was the only one who saw that
>>63431101
If what we're seeing is what survivors are remembering there's no way we can reliably say that Rye saw them.
If everything we see is actually canon alien exists and that would be total bullshit.
That was some bold decision making by the writers, and I appreciate the fact that they have the spine to commit to bringing in a fucking UFO in the tail end of a massive gun fight between gangsters and police.
For better or for worse, they made a plan, hinted at it every episode, and delivered without second guessing themselves.
No complaints, ayy lmao, etc. Good shit good shit.
FIRST FOR PEGGY
>>63431071
I think you're on the money.
Either the author of the true crime book or someone he interviewed - possibly Lou - took an interest in aliens and they latched on to "DUDE ALIENS LMAO" as the explanation for things that they don't quite know the answer to or can't quite explain.
>>63431071
>>63431071
Ed, Hanzee and Peggy all commented on it.
Aliums are real
Any webms of "It's just a flying saucer" yet?
>>63431101
The aliens are a metaphor for Hawley's very visible hand pushing the show along to fill his ten episode commitment.
>>63431165
Well, aliens never serve as a TRUE deus ex machina, most scenes could be easily be rewritten without the inclusion of UFOs without altering the entire continuity.
I guess now we only have to wait one week.
>>63431071
the fuck is ted danson up to in his office?
>>63431184
Yeah I know.
If Hamzee survives the next episode this theory will be completely bullshit.
>>63431071
Ed and Hanzee both reacted to the non-existent aliens. Lou and Bear both had the same vision. Peggy is retarded, but has no reason to see the spacemans.
>molly is a survivor
>draws aliens
>>63431184
>Ed, Hanzee and Peggy
We only know that one of those people will live to tell the tale - and that's the guy that was being strangled.
Judging from the way the narrator spoke of Hanzee in the past tense tonight, he's not going to survive next episode to confirm to the narrator that a spaceship showed up at the shootout.
That leaves the couple, one of whom is a crazy person. We don't know if they both or either survive to validate Lou's story besides.
>>63431133
Nope. Rye was blinded and stabbed and walking in a bit of a stupor when he turned his attention to spacemen so he could be struck by the car.
>>63431184
It's possible that there was definitely a source of bright light in the sky, but an alternative "normal" explanation will be offered (and Ed and Hanzee will either end up dead or be unsure of what they saw)
>>63431121
Who's ed?
I think there's no way they don't find a way to leave the reality of the UFO ambiguous. Love that they gave everyone a week to drive themselves fucking nuts about it lmao
>>63431285
Ohanzee means ghost
Because he doesn't exist.
does anyone have screencaps of the book at the beginning of the ep?
>>63431184
>Ed, Hanzee and Peggy all commented on it.
>Aliums are real
nope.
>Ed was strangled less than 12 hours prior and is still dazed
>Hanzee lost some hours when he checked on the diner and we later find out he's a veteran so he has mental issues from that
>Peggy has conversations with people that aren't there aka also has delusions
>Actually ends up being angels to tie into S1's Bibilical stuff

>>63431358
Twin Peaks didn't deviate from the feel of the show.
You cannot go from real people making choices to alien mind control just because it makes writing the finale easier.
>tfw that guy never gets another Christmas Card
>>63431347
In the book it said the earliest event was in 1825. Season 3 is going all the way back or it is gonns be whatever the shit cop said when the motel shoot out started.
>>63431393
What exactly did Ed say about the alleged saucer? Do we know if he thought he was looking at a saucer
>>63431415
Season 3 is a few year after season 1.
>>63431400
It's not Ayylium mind control, they're just observers
>>63431400
A UFO was literally in the first episode, they've been building to a UFO the entire season.
>>63431349
I'd draw out Hamzee out of the equation.
It's still Fargo, the merciless killer will die, Ed and/or Peggy will most likely die and Lou will survive.
My guess is that only Milligan, Lou, Peggy and maybe White Beard will survive.
Also remember that Peggy didn't see the UFO, Ed did. And Peggy is delusional as fuck, she may agree with what Lou see.
>>63431415
yo they just said s3 was gonna take place after s1 like within the past few days
>>63431425
>are you seeing this?

>>63431400
>>63431415

>>63431449
The controlled the events by setting everything in motion.
Space ships and alien symbols appear in every episode in key points of the plot to show the control.
All the aliens shit is just another hack Coen movie reference
That's all it is
>>63431473
Why would alien ever care about somethin so frivolous?
>>63431459
There could have been a mundane source of light in the sky which the "untrustworthy" observers saw as a UFO
watching the episode again to see one of the greatest moments in television history
>>63431481
Cause aliens are assholes.
>>63431478
It's like hearing the cover of just dropped in on the radio and arguing incessantly over whether fargo takes place in the same canon as big lebowski or not
>>63431481
peggy is the aliens' waifu
>>63431450
The first episode was ambiguous as to what was happening when home alone's brother was kilt.
This interrupts the story to ensure the proper ending occurs. Shit writing.
Every incident involving the half breed has alien writings or a spaceship/aliens in it. Every one.
How do you explain Ted Dansen's office full of alium pictures?
>>63431518
it does.Donnieis gonna show up in the finale and save Lou and kill hanzee and also reveal that he is really an alien and that's canon baby
After all the alien shit throughout the whole season, why would anyone not want a UFO to play a big role towards the end of the story? It would fucking blow if they did all that and didn't pay it off, just so they could give the show pointless intrigue.
>>63431561
This type of shit was popular back then. Leonard Nimoy had a show that explored the unexplained. It is on youtube. check it out.
>>63431561

>>63431071
>We also now that the narration is unreliable, the narrator remarks multiple times that we don't really know some aspects of this story.
exactly this. Whenever people didn't know how something happened they probably just said it was because of aliens. Since obviously lots of people in that area at that time seemed to be obsessed with it.
>>63431593
Obviously there was gonna be some sort of payoff; kind of surprised they went so over the top with it. I think I like it, though, personally. Definitely took balls
>>63423315
Hello fellow Leftovers/Fargo bros
>>63431561

I really wanted to see how he would react.
>>63431518
Now I'm wondering the same thing you fucker
>>63431645
But the door was open, so maybe he did.
>>63431549
The UFO was used the exact same way in this episode as in the first one. They could've had both events happen without the UFO, so it's not to "ensure the proper ending occurs" at all.
And don't bitch about things that are still your fan theories when there's only one episode left anyway.
Anyone got a link to the episode?
>>63431801

They should actually have it be aliens, though.

arent there stories of lots of people seeing ufos that the government has chalked up to gas leaks, and stuff like that? What if that's what happened?
Hawley agreed that this takes place before the events of the film, but he believes all the stories connect: "I like the idea that somewhere out there is a big, leather-bound book that's the history of true crime in the Midwest, and the movie was Chapter 4, Season 1 was Chapter 9 and this is Chapter 2," he said. "You can turn the pages of this book, and you just find this collection of stories. ... But I like the idea that these things are connected somehow, whether it's linearly or literally or thematically. That's what we play around with."

it was supposed to be pretty obvious....
"Nobody said, “Don’t do it.” Look, there was a lot of conversation as we were prepping to shoot. “Can we see some pre-visualization? What’s really going on with the UFO? Is it really a UFO or is it a weather balloon?” So going into that, they find that balloon in the second hour. There were some people [at the network] who wanted the UFO to be shot in a way so that it could have actually been a balloon. My feeling was always, “No, it’s a UFO. It is what it is.” We put a lot of references to it, maybe too many references. But it pays off, obviously. "
There was unexplained stuff in the first season that defied logic, like Malvo being a disappearing demon, but this goes too far past that.

>>63432537
He literally disappears at several points in the show. First instance is in Lester's basement.
In addition to Fargo being “based on a true story,” can you say what was your inspiration for including the UFO in the first place?
The Coen Bros. sometimes put something in because it’s funny, but that doesn’t mean it’s meant to be comic. … There’s
a couple things that felt right about it. One is that it plays very
well into the conspiracy-minded 1979 era where it’s post-Watergate, you
had Close Encounters and Star Wars. There was a Minnsisota UFO encounter [in 1979] involving a state trooper. It was certainly in the air at the time. Alternately in the Coens’ The Man Who Wasn’t There they
had a [running UFO thread]; certainly it was more ’50s inspired, but it
was part of the cinematic language of their movie. So it felt like it
worked for the time period and worked for the filmmakers, and is a way of saying “accept the mystery” — which is a staple of the Coen Bros. philosophy in their films. And I thought it was funny. But obviously it
affects the story in a very real way. It’s not just a background element.
which death this season are you most glad for

If you want to go all Sopranos on it - you'd have to argue that five characters (Ed, Peggy, Lou, Bear, and Hanzee) all hallucinated the same event at the same time and mistook it for e same thing, as the camera adopted the POV's of each of the characters. If you're going to argue that Rye was originally hallucinating, and thus the camera was showing what he -thought- he saw, them the same applies for the massacre. Five people were staring at a UFO. Yes, they did. Peggy comments on it being a flying saucer for one thing, for another, all five POV's are shown. Whose point of view are you seeing when you see the UFO, then? It's shown at angles Lou and bear couldn't see. When the audience sees the UFO, whose vision are they being shown?
>>63432969
What, like a chopper or some other, massive, UFO-shaped vehicle? There's nothing else that would have stopped Bear in his tracks like that, and Peggy explicitly calls it a saucer. This scene was terrible and ruined the entire season because it's so explicit.

How much you wanna bet Ed, Peggy and Hanzee all die in the finale and no one mentions the UFO again?
I didn't care for the episode, but I also don't think that the UFO ruined the season or anything.
I feel like the stuff with Hanzee was kinda lame. They had to shoehorn a narrator in to try and explain it because its just so out of the blue.
The firefight was boring to me for the same reason, it was just kinda senseless. Explosive for the sake of being explosive. We're basically set back an episode where Lou was sneaking up on Hanzee, Ed, and Peggy.
>>63432665
>book opens up with a preface dating back to 1825
>Chapter 14 is entitled the Sioux Falls Massacre
>its outright stated that everything happening this season is collectively referred to as the Sioux Falls Massacre
It's just that one tome
Also just wanted to say that Hanzee's escape from the cabin at the end of the last episode should be a nice visual as to how killers like Malvo and Chigurh appear to be "supernatural". Just extremely focused men who know how to handle tight situations and react like a well oiled machine when the adrenaline is pumping.
>>63433068
he was using a revolver
so bear probably took like 2 .38 special rounds in the chest
bear is a big guy, so i can understand him still being able to fight after that, but he still would have bled out really quickly
if lou was using lol9mm he would have been in trouble
How long until we see this.
>you will never be on the run with peggy
>>63433245
Rye died in the garage after Ed stabbed him.
>>63432753
>implying Hanzee isn't sneaky or as sneaky as Malvo
the tunnel rat is pretty sneaky, don't underestimate him
>>63433311
the adrenaline and desire to murder lou would have kept him going before the blood loss stopped him. guess it also helps he's got that nice flannel jacket.
>>63433321
Hopefully fucking never. Although, if they were going to do it, Justified would've been that show.
>>63433327
Yeah yeah I forgot.
>>63433321
count your blessings it isn't an AMC show.yet.
>It's just a flying saucer, hon, we gotta go.
>>63433311
>two .38 special rounds
Troopers carry .357 magnums and shit, don't they?
>>63433219
>mfw fargo has triggered all MUH REALISM fags that wanted another stereotypical crime drama
>>63433114
Pretty much. It was fucking bizarre for /tv/ to only realize God existed in the last ten minutes of the show.
You fuckers are purposely dense
>mike michael jacksons himself into malvo
What are the odds of Mike making it? I mean, the Gerhardts aren't an issue anymore and he did clean it up on a technicality.
the only thing disappointing about this season is it took noah too long to scare away the normies
HOW IS THIS SHOW SO FUCKING COZY?!
>Bear wasted in the parking lot by Lou
so much for the "Bear is the Fargo mob boss from season 1" theory
>>63431071
That's all fine and I'm glad you came up with the theory. But the truth is it's meant to be ambiguous - either your story flies or aliens were really monitoring humans in the 50's-70's. Both have merit.
I'd also like to point out young Molly finding the balloon near the diner, meaning the initial UFO sighting could have been a balloon reflected against Peggy's headlights. Like I said, it's meant to be ambiguous.
That said, we got some pretty clear shots of a flying saucer with a rotating rim in tonight's episode, and one character we know will survive (Ed Solverson) witnessed it. Whether or not this will be addressed in the finale is yet to be seen, but really, I love this shit. This is what television is about. Leaving you guessing, making you theorize, influencing you to keep watching.
I personally believe the UFOs are real and their appearances had direct influence on the Sioux Falls Massacre, whether intentional or not.
>>63433724
I was disappointed that it turned out he wasn't Mr. Tripoli.

I think it's the way they talk too.
>>63431071
garbage theory
So we have two camps. One is desperately trying to rationalize that the aliens aren't real. The other thinks that the presence of actual aliens makes the show stupid.
Both are moronic.

>DROPPED
>>63433813
we won't find out next week if the "aliens" are real anyway. this was a UFO sighting. they happen quite often
>>63433752
Same, I was all hyped up for Bear to be the last surviving Gerhardt and then finally he cuts a deal with KC purely out of the drive to survive, after watching everything around him die off or be destroyed, selling off his grandfather's legacy to blend in to corporate America and just be another faceless cog in the machine.
I hope that running off into the night like a little girl isn't the last we see of Richie from Buffalo either.
>>63433835
>it was aliens in the first episode
m8
>>63432365
I think the lights are just attracted to what gets their attention. They saw the two dead guys, they saw Lou and Bear, and they saw Hanzee get shot and fall backwards. It's a curious thing. Also is why it gets frightened by gunfire
peggy is literally the perfect female
can't be bothered with aliens n shit
>>63433813
What about the camp that doesn't give a shit about rationalizing the aliens, or isn't dropping the show because of it, but is just going along for the ride?
why would peggy marry a fat bitch like ed
Everyone who thought Rye was hallucinating just got BTFO
>Nah bro it was the coke!
its like the people who are complaining and trying to rationalize the aliens have never seen the man who wasn't there
>>63433890
Nothing happened when Lou wasted Bear, but when Hanzee starts firing again it gets spooked and gets the fuck out of Dodge.
>>63433915
Seems like they go a long way back. Ed was probably a "second choice" like Betsy was for Lou.
>>63433915
Because they live in a small town and maybe he wasn't always fat

There's also the minority that thinks the presence of actual aliens is awesome and relatively inconsequential in the grand scheme of things.

>>63433915
Her first love died in Vietnam. Ed's friend. He comforted her and they got married. She never really wanted him.
Simplest explanation is that aliens just have a huge boner for violence.

>Aliens pass by
>Huge massacre occurs
>Aliens get up close to examine it
hanzee is taking revenge for his ancestors you shitlord cis white people

They should do something with Bigfoot next season.
Like, you have all these Midwestern hicks talking about Bigfoot and Sasquatch and the Patterson footage and all that for nine episodes, and then at the finale Bigfoot shows up and wastes everyone
I am pretty sure Ed and Peggy lives because the narrator says the events of the massacre changed Ed and Peggys lives.
can someone pls post readable screenshots of the pages?

Source on this? I took it as a commentary on the mundane process and tradition of life in such an area. Hence her journey and desire to be actualized and break out.
>>63434046
But we had reason to believe a UFO might be out there, and it behaved in a manner consistent with how we would expect a UFO to behave. It appeared at a fortuitous moment but its existence was not or should not have been a complete surprise
>>63434046
Except flying saucers appearing out of fucking nowhere at precisely the right moment to influence the plot and INVOLVE the main characters was literally in the pilot episode.
You are really a dense motherfucker, you know that?
>>63434154
I read that their back story was cut due to time but that's definitely their story.
>>63434079
I never doubted that Lou would survive.
The point is there are several, better ways they could have done it as opposed to having a fucking flying saucer appear and distract Bear.

>>63434083Dodd had his fair share of camera time. Bear seemed like he was going placed but then got shut the fuck down in his prime. Others like The Undertaker don't quite matter as much as they were killed before learning about them.
I'm mad, anon. I wanted Bear to go on a rampage or at least carry on the family name at some point in a lesser degree. :'(
>>63434191
Except that in the pilot we didn't get a prolonged, clear view of a flying saucer just hovering.
Had it just been a flash of UFO strobe lights that distracted Bear, I'd be fine. Leave some mystery. The fact that they made it completely unambiguous is what bothers me. Now there is no doubt whatsoever that aliens exist in the Fargo universe. And I would prefer they hadn't done that.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: You finally paid off the UFO teases with, yes, a massive hovering UFO. What are you prepared to tell us about this?
Noah Hawley: I haven’t prepared anything. There are going to be people who will smack the TV and go, “Come on!” and that’s a great reaction. Everybody is entitled to their reaction. I like to say that everything in there is because it actually happened in the world of our “true story,” and in this case there was a UFO. I haven’t seen or heard any of the responses yet, so I’d be responding to phantoms.
In addition to Fargo being “based on a true story,” can you say what was your inspiration for including the UFO in the first place?
The Coen Bros. sometimes put something in because it’s funny, but that doesn’t mean it’s meant to be comic. … There’s a couple things that felt right about it. One is that it plays very well into the conspiracy-minded 1979 era where it’s post-Watergate, you had Close Encounters and Star Wars. There was a Minnsisota UFO encounter [in 1979] involving a state trooper. It was certainly in the air at the time. Alternately in the Coens’ The Man Who Wasn’t There they had a [running UFO thread]; certainly it was more ’50s inspired, but it was part of the cinematic language of their movie. So it felt like it worked for the time period and worked for the filmmakers, and is a way of saying “accept the mystery” — which is a staple of the Coen Bros. philosophy in their films. And I thought it was funny. But obviously it affects the story in a very real way. It’s not just a background element.
>>63434461
this would make it worse

>>63434540
>accept the mystery
>>63434477
yeah it was just a bunch of stereotypical grayskin aliens passing a bong around in a circle with ed and peggy taking massive rips
>>63434313
Why? UFO sightings were much more prominent in the 50's to the 80's than they are today. Why is it so hard for you to accept a supernatural element in a show based on a Coens Bros. movie?
Have you seen Barton Fink? Some literally ridiculous supernatural shit happens in that movie. It's borderline Lynch.
>>63434514
>>63434540
i like this explanation
it's just a bizarre thing that happened in the story that isn't supposed to be taken so seriously.
the coen's have bizarre absurd shit in almost every fucking movie they've made, that's like their thing. the only movie i can think of that they didn't have ridiculous stuff in was no country for old men.

He IS an alien. As soon as hank gets shot the UFO shows up to bring him back home. He's the one setting everything in motion. He left Peggy alone at the house without even checking on her after he got nailed in the face. Several times it shows him it cuts to symbols or a weird sky glare. Finale will be him bringing the cancer mother to a field, waving to cop, and both being sucked up; her getting revived in the air and looking back down at Lou.
it's pretty obvious the aliens are just studying human behaviour

>Not much bizarre or absurd stuff there
miller's crossing is pretty straight i guess

>>63435441
Malvo wasn't just a man. He escaped the basement in a way that wasn't shown and can't be explained. As well as being shot a handful of times and still being able to attack little Tom Hanks. I know you guys get mad at the idea of him being the Devil and i'm not saying he is, but Malvo wasn't just a human.
Milligan is just a man.
Hanzee is still up in the air. During the 8th episode I had an idea that he was in fact an alien. If you really pull for some straws it's kinda there. He stated he was tired of his current life, he doesn't get along with humans, the narrator states he has no concrete record of him. etc. Or y'know, he's just a Native American. I have a feeling he's gonna get abducted by the aliens in the finale and either Peggy or Ed will escape. Cue timejump like in the first season of either one of them enjoying their life, possibly finally getting caught.
Really though, like any of this talk matters. It's fun to theorize, but just like the first season of Fargo and Breaking Bad, the plot just goes in a completely different direction than what /tv/ thought and it still ends up pretty good.
Hanzi himself is an ayylium hybrid. He looks like an alien, has heightened senses and planning abilities, and the show provides ayylium references whenever he's part of happenings on screen.
screencap this post, Hanzi will be revealead to be an alium in the last episode, infa 100%

i doubt anything else is going to happen involving the aliens, they pretty much served their purpose in the story, anything more would excessive. people are already pissed about the aliens (because they don't get it).
i think hanzee might live. he's kind of like an anton chigurh character, and those types almost always live in some type of way in the coen movies (peter stormare in fargo was also this type of character - a quiet psycho killer)
>Little diddy 'bout Peggy and Ed
>It wasn't for dumb luck they'd both be dead
