training montage
Hello fellow film and television enthusiasts. Let's discuss the great Japanese film director, Kon Ichikawa. I just watched Kokoro last evening and really enjoyed the themes of youth, uncertainty, loyalty, and death, and the dichotomy between the search for spiritual truth and the attraction of earthly pursuits. But by far my favorite film by Ichikawa-san is Fires on the Plain, a harrowing story about the grim realities of war, dealing with many of the same themes as Kokoro, but in much starker and cerebral way.
What about you? What is your favorite Ichikawa film and why?
>>64182254
I don't claim to be an expert by any means but having seen my share and enjoyed them, I'd have to say beyond a shadow of a doubt and with utmost sincerity that you should be posting about the force Awakens instead
>>64182254
I don't know Japanese kino very well, I just like some of their cop and samurai movies. Would Ichikawa be a good place to look for something new?
>>64182254
Time to go somewhere else lel familia. /tv/ is a place for memes, shitposting, and the promotion of corporate agendas.
Does anyone else find it odd that Marty and Steve Geraci both screamed their heads off when they were shown the tape?
No, they were normies
>>64182132
IT'S AWWWWRIGHT!
>>64182149
So I should be screaming NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO every time I see gore?
Would you let George Lucas make Episode 7, /tv/?

I wish I had a Tuesdays with Morrie situation going on with George

The brain behind Jar Jar Binks should never be allowed to make another Star Wars film.
>>64182127
as the idea guy,for sure.for having absolute control,no.
based
I dun did be a generic red neck hero. Bravo...
>>64181953
Best performance of the movie for me. Loved it. Niggers and hillbillies coming together to abuse a diabolical bitch
How do you put a title?
is this the best documentary ever? has anyone seen it? give me you opinions
>>64181746
No, that goes to Inside Job (2010) or The Thin Blue Line (1988)
>>64181746
I saw about half of it then turned it off. Complete yawn fest.
>>64181746
its good. this one is pretty cool as well.
ITT: 2 movies that are basically the same movie
>>64181718
Swap surfing for cars and great writing for mediocre writing and basically yeah
>>64181718
Tommy Boy is superior
>>64181718
No. The one on the left is an excellent comedy/drama that keeps the viewer engaged for all of its running time.
The one on the right is puerile, reprehensible shite that should be avoided like the fucking plague. I'm glad Chris Farley died and I wish David Spade had, also.
So this is my new favorite movie. Discuss.
>>64181716
>I just watched my 15th arthouse movie and I think I should post about my new good taste on /tv/
Go to bed youngin.
>>64181716
Why are you literally an infant?
Natural Born Killers was the same idea but way funnier and less pretentious.
why is boba so popular? i get that he looks cool, but so do a lot of other star wars characters. he just stands around doing nothing for the most part. jango does more than him and had a cool death whereas bobajust fell into a sarlacc. even young boba had far more character development in AOTC than adult boba in the OT.
im a cuck
>>64181692
Because he looks cool. Thats literally it. He was my favorite toy as a kid, and I hardly knew anything about him. Eventually I started getting comics that involved him, and started seeing him in the video games. I imagine the story is the same for a lot of anons.
>>64181692
Boba was the OG nigga. Lost a lot of mysterious when he took of the mask and they developed Jango.
blockbuster action-adventure flicks used to have technical ambition and obvious connections to cinema
when did this change? this is something that fascinates me
Reaganomics mixed with 9/11 and the rise of the internet
>>64181635
I've wondered this myself. Like, Die Hard and Lethal Weapon for instance, have all around good performances, writing, story etc. But take a Fast 7 or any other action spectacle of today and it's literally only about stunts and the characters are either interchangeable badasses or comic relief
Can't say when exactly, but I think around 1998 Blockbusters started becoming their own type of movie, rather than a blockbuster being the result of a very good or ambitious film.
What went wrong?
>>64150470
why gleeson is fucking everywhere this year fucking faggot cunt
>>64150470
Makes me wonder how the original would have went if Tarkis had survived in ANH
>>64150470
Those damn Rebels killed Tarkin, that's what went wrong.
>>64150520
He would have been a shoe-in to replace the Emperor when he died.
