Really good series. Particularly middle, b4 political stuff. Amazing acting all around. It's awesome, three wives I mean, but mo' wives, mo' problems as the show illustrates.
So I'd like to talk about his movies, or rather why I don't like them.
I know /tv/ has the "I bet you like the films of wes anderson" meme and mostly this seems to want to imply that OP is a lonely lovesick semi-liberal upper middle class white male but I don't feel like there's much discussion about why Anderson is bad.
I personally used to like his movies when I was 15-18 but then I stopped paying much attention to him after watching the Fantastic Mr. Fox. I came back to him after Grand Budapest Hotel got all that critical acclaim and I really had like fundamental problems with it that were hard to vocalize. I then went back and looked at a number of his other movies and I think I have a better grip on why I now dislike his films.
1. They all seem to be simple coming of age stories but with misanthropic overaged children.
2. His compositional, writing, and set design styles are just too fucking "cute". I think it trivializes some of the more serious elements he attempts to throw into his movies.
Honestly there might be more but I don't know. As it stands though, I think his best films are Moonrise Kingdom and Rushmore simply because they actually are about children coming of age.

How do you think Kevin Smith reconciles the fact that he's a 45 year old man who makes terrible indie films, eating fast food as his diet and fucking a physically retarded femnazi? For years he had to work menial customer service jobs to make ends meet, with the low point of his life involving going $27000 in debt to finance his movie.
Kevin had a difficult life growing up--his mother was a Catholic and his father was a postal worker. His loving mother tried, but she placated young Kevin with comic books and dreams of a better life. Dreams that Kevin was never able to cash in on. The constant failures in his life shaped him as the Don Quixote figure we have today, an empty casket of ruination and aspirations.
A man with no training, no education, no real life experience tries to make his voice heard. This echoes the warnings of the great capitalists of the 19th century, showing that, given power, the proles will replace society with an empty shell of itself. Reflecting this, Kevin only brings his jaded, cynical outlook on life to the table.
Food uplifted him from his sorry state, but even then food only gave him the illusion of comfort. While contemporaries like Tarantino and PTA made cinematic masterpieces, Kevin peaked with his first movie, only to remain a punching bag thereafter. He is kept him around as a literal reminder of the failures of Generation Y, encapsulated by his love of Prince and capeshit.
Many nights Kevin does nothing but cry about comics and Star Wars, sometimes producing podcasts for a crowd of people even more pathetic than him. Podcasts gives him solace that no matter how much of a fuckup he is, he will never be on the same tier as the retards that join him every Wednesday and Sunday night. This is the only thing that keeps Kevin from giving up the ghost. Not his wife. Not his friend Johnny Depp. But the mere feeling that he is better than somebody.

People are so obsessed with what is racist and sexist that they forget about context. They immediately call something racist and sexist just because, in some people with too much time on their hands, can be lead to being interpreted as such. A cosplayer using makeup to darken her skinto look like a certain character is not blackface. You're missing out on the context that blackface involves a theatric to insult black people and not because someone of lighter skin just became darker for a moment. There needs to be an active intent behind blackface.
Dubs for anime aren't racist because we don't pick voice actors that match the race they are playing. Voice actors are chosen by how much their voice match the character or their overexposure to the mainstream. That Assassin's creed game with the black female lead would still suck even if they casted a black woman for that part rather than the white one they chose.
I guess it's human nature to think the worse of others because we also see that in ourselves and we try to rank ourselves above the scum of the world. We are all racist and sexist based on the perspective of the watcher at certain moments in our lives, but that action ignores the real racist and sexist that exist in society. If we don't turn our attention to these true monsters and get caught up in little tizzy drama manufactured by mainstream media, we will all turn into porch monkeys, lazing around and not evolving beyond our base instincts of insulting the problem away and reaching the progress we so desperately want.
