The pizza was always good, very expensive and often unavailable (because of the odd hours and habits of the owner). The owner is a cantankerous guy that seems not to care much about what his customers think of his place. After the show, you can see that the menu is more standardized, but honestly I see no change in the place. I'm honestly curious how he keeps the place open sometimes. If he just hired a delivery person and gave two shits about customer service, this place would probably dominate the neighborhood.

Anyone else seen this? It's 9 and 1/2 hours long but it goes by pretty quick, and it's definitely one of the most emotionally powerful films I've seen. Hopefully Criterion releases a Blu-ray soon, there are barely any special features on the DVD edition.

This was actually my first Kobayashi film, and one of my first Japanese films. So after I have time to recover from watching it, I will definitely get around to watching the rest of Kobayashi's stuff and some Kurosawa.
I agree it was really beautiful. In particular the scene where the woman washes her face in the river and thevery final scene in the snow was beautiful in a dark way.
Arrow are coming out with a blu-ray set in August, its region B locked however.
