I am not a typical ST fan. I could care less about replicators or warp core drives. I am a normie that loves star trekk because it is comfy. It is the story of the greatest parts of humanity, it reminds us of our potential and how great people can be even though the modern world is shit. I love star trekk not because I am a nerd but because I am a romantic who appreciates the message of the series.

Why are comedies never given the same respect dramas are?
Not sure, It seems to be harder to write comedy than it is to write drama.
it's assumed that it's easier to be funny than to make an engaging and interesting dramatic story. A joke can pay off a couple of lines later, but dramas require much greater time investment.
Dramas have to try hard to make an epic complex story lasting seasons while comedies just have to make you laugh for 20 minutes. Not that it's easier or anything, it's just that people are tricked into seeing ambition and production value as quality.
