We Are Still Here got 95% on Rottentomatoes. Why do critics not understand horror? Why did they love this middling jump-scare fest of cliches, but thumb their nose at better films that actually disturb you psychologically? I admit, I thought the film had its charms, especially the hilarious gore towards the end, but it didn't frighten or scare me or disturb me the way a true horror film would.

This is the state of horror now

It's either throwback style or lol so meta

Because the last half-hour is 11/10 and the rest was decent.

Pretty much every psychological horror film gets a critical love-wave. What are you talking about?

>Citzen Kane
>Raging Bull
>The Drive
>End of Evangelion (you have to watch the series too tho)
>Star Wars V
>Pulp Fiction
>Godfather
Those are my top 3 (not in order again):

How the fuck did they manage to ruin the story so much? And what was even the purpose of making this movie when the Swedish film had been made a few years before and actually followed the book? Fucking Americans ruin everything I swear

Thank you based Snyder.

It occurred to me the other day that, by giving us the origin and death of Superman leading into the Justice League, he's transformed the death of Superman from a largely meaningless comic book event into the sacrifice necessary to elevate a dark, cynical, "realistic" world into a new "Heroic Age." So there's yet another reason the religious imagery isn't meaningless. Viewed from that perspective, Superman isn't real-world Jesus, not "Space Jesus," but he's certainly become "comic book Jesus."

Let's run down all the different ways that "meaningless" symbolism has meaning within the context of the films:

1) It's a visual metaphor for what being Superman is - a guy trying to be a hero when his nature and environment conspire to make him appear god-like.

2) To clue us in that the people in his world are thinking of him as a god, unconsciously deifying him, and providing the answer to Perry's largely rhetorical question: "Do you know how people would react if they knew there was someone like this out there?" Well, here's the answer - when they see walking, talking proof that not only is there extraterrestrial intelligence, but that it's superior to them in almost every conceivable way, they try to turn it into an object of worship - a god.

3) To highlight the dichotomy that exists between perception and reality, an important factor when the discussion turns to magic in the DC universe, and one that's going to become increasingly important, I believe.

4) It serves a metatextual acknowledgement of Superman's place in comic book history. He's the god-like figure that ushered in the age of the superhero the "founder of the religion," as it were, and as depicted in the films, his sacrifice serves to bring Bruce back into the light, so to speak, and to elevate a dark, cynical world into one where heroes can once again live and breathe.

Not bad. all things considered.

ITT: villains who got away with it.

Seriously though, what the fuck was was her problem? She knew she was lying, and she even said she wasn't when Mads' son went to their house, but she changed her story and admitted she was lying after Mads punched her dad. So if she knew she was lying, why did she keep it hidden until then?

It's about time for us to move beyond the boogie man and start facing the real Germany today
>>
I liked it. It's a little disjointed, and you can't quite tell what it wants to be, either comedy or drama/personality study, but it was a fun watch.
It's important to understand how sensitive Germans are to any mention of the Nazi Party in order to understand how subversive it is, I guess.
>>
The scenes with Hitler being motivational and counter arguing were great. It was a fun movie, i feel bad for germans who are drowned in the issues it was trying to tackle.
