What miniature are you the most happy/proud of in terms of the job you did with it?
Death is going to take me soon, i can feel it
>>47148312
Probably this guy. I've since become a better painter and converter (...I hope), but I still love this mini.
>>47148312
My most recent, although the honour guard I've yet to take any pictures of is a close second.
Best paintjob I've done so far, but I also know I can improve on it.
Just finished my GUO. I was really smart and decided I'd use a £115 model for my first attempt at airbrushing, pretty happy with the results and really pleased I didn't screw up my model.
>>47148430
Fucking hell, that looks disgusting and gives me shivers.
Very well done, man.
what's with every model in /WIP/ so far looking amazing? normally it's all shit
been working on a few Nurgle marines, so I'm gonna post what I've done.
>>47148475
second guy. He used to have an Iron Halo, bur it broke off and I couldn't find it again, so, well, he's a slightly taller group commander now.
>>47148378
Great tidy work-space anon!
>>47148480
The groups heavy flamer. I tried giving him a sorta burnt face, but it didn't work out too well. still looks alright, but not as I'd imagined.
what the fuck?
>>47148487
and finally, the Contemptor Dread. I just need to base them all, and finish the arms on the other soldiers.
>>47148462
Normal service will resume shortly anon.
>>47148475
I really like the skintones you are using. Looks great.
>>47148430
Absolutely amazing paintjob here!
I'd propably go for a black base edge though :^)
I just finished this guy, pic related. Sadly I can only take potato pics at the moment. But wanted to share.
>>47148383
Is he dead or lazy?
>>47148514
.. and a view of the shield.
>>47148494
The smoke skull looks pretty goofy dude, like he's photobombing the contemptor. Add a hand doing bunny ears to the other exhaust pipe to make it look intentional.
>>47148462
>>47148508
Idd. Lot's of actually good stuff in this thread.
>>47148520
solid freehand on the fish
>>47148490
Probably being repackaged.
Resculpts are too much to hope for.
>>47148552
I would have thought they'd have been leaked if it was a resculpt. CSM changes are pretty anticipated.
>>47148451
Cheers mate!
>>47148514
I know Anon, I know...I tried it with my Tau and it looks so much better, but I'd have to do my whole Fantasy army's bases..maybe I should just bite the bullet and do it.
I agree with that other Anon, that freehand is great, very crisp.
>>47148519
IIRC he's their paralysed Chapter Master but they still carry him to battles.
>>47148378
You deserve death.
>>47148430
Nice!
The sores are very convincing, I don't know if the yellow is fatty tissue or pus but I like the effect.
The base is a bit meh to be honest, not a big fan of the ubiquitous cork layer. The area where is his left knee touches the ground looks a bit odd too.
>>47148514
>>47148520
Absolutely fab, and photo taken with some lovely terrain to boot.
>>47148490
32mm bases.
Continuing on with my Navigator, made an arco-flagellant as well but the little bastard just would not photograph well. I've just gone through about 50 shots to try and find a decent one and these are the best of a very, very bad bunch.
Still to do; freehand Navis Nobilitae symbol on the parchment, weather the base of his robe and do his rings and bracelets. Gloss varnish the arco-flagellant's drugs and maybe do a bubble effect and maybe add a few more glazes to the skin.
>>47148656
ouch
>>47148378
Two nasty regiments, and the rest? They're mostly 'armless
>>47148827
>nasty regiments
I thought i painted them pretty good...
>>47148579
Ugh yeah - That sounds like a lot of work.
I'd probably just paint the edge of 2 or 3 miniatures a day/each time I sat down to paint. It will take a while, but get done eventually, and it wont be a horrid painful slog.
>>47148543
>>47148579
>>47148696
Thanks! I love painting heraldry but I still think I need a bit more practice. Just bought a really good brush for it, though, so its quite fun.
Also painted this guy a couple of days ago. A lot more sloppy of a paintjob, though.
>>47148475
How did you paint the skin? I quite like it.
>>47148519
>>47148637 has it right. He's been cursed by a chaos sorcerer with an ever-increasing torpor. Any physical action on his part requires a titanic effort, but he's so beloved by his men that they carry him into battle.
Basically, in the FLGS we have a long-going pseudo-campaign/setting, the Cosire Sector; going for well over 15 years by now, and my force commander got debuffed again and again by a sorcerer to the point of uselessness, to the point where it became something of a meme And in the end I just decided to run with it.
Here's an earlier version of him, where the the curse wasn't as far advanced. He got rekt by a chaos dreadnought he couldn't hurt, so the newer incarnation is carriying a chainfist and thunderhammers.
>>47148378
How long have you been working on that project?
Do you even play them or do you just like to hurt yourself and you do this for pure hobby purposes?
>>47148552
>>47148698
My hopes just went on a rollercoaster.
>>47148862
You got a bone to pick with me?
I'm planning to paint up my Wookiee Warriors for Imperial Assault soon-ish. I plan to paint one group with silvery/steel shoulder armor, and I have a pretty good idea how I'm going to do that. But for the other group, I'd like to do something gold or bronze, and I'm not sure how to do that and make it look good. Any suggestions?
>>47148897
>Do you even play them or do you just like to hurt yourself
Ive played a singular fucking game with them in plastic stage, but since then ive worked every fucking weekend and havent been able to play since. Then AoS tanked, i lost my will, but got it back. I love it as both a hobby and a game, but right now all I can do is the hobby side. Total time in work hours i cant say, but i bought my first skeleton back on Dec of 2014
>>47148927
You rattling at me, bone head?
>>47148933
Multiple layers, wash with purple, highlight with silver.
Alternatively: Basecoat old-gw (or equivalent) Bestial Brown, mix with gold for layer 2, pure gold for layer 3. Highlight with light silver mixed in and wash with watered down Flesh Wash colour (or equivalent. Previous was Gryphone Sepia)
Coins as markers: Make your own with stamps
>>47148312
Probably this little diorama. I learnt so many things with this.
>>47148968
>Flesh Wash colour
For reference, these days that's Reikland Fleshshade, although Seraphim Sepia and Agrax Earthshade can both be used as washes on gold.
>>47149016
What's the scale? Really nice work.
>>47148968
>Multiple layers, wash with purple, highlight with silver.
Is that multiple layers of gold?
>>47148690
Thanks for the feedback, Anon. Is the odd part of the knee how it's kind of floating? It's cause I was a turkey and didn't sand it down enough so there is some excess resin raising his leg a bit.
I agree with you, my basing could do with some more flare. In my head the environment my guys are in is a flat, semi-barren wasteland, the cork is supposed to be like a rock shelf, I'm not sure what else to add, I'm keen for any suggestions from anyone.
>>47148865
That sounds like a good idea, Anon. I might just do that, thanks!
>>47149057
Bigger than 28mm that's for sure, but can't remember the scale right now, either 32 or 54.
My fingers for comparison.
>>47149085
>I'm keen for any suggestions from anyone
I think if you left the edges of the base as is, but had filth radiating out from him: Like he's corrupting the ground he stands on.
Start dark in the shadowed areas and diffuse out to the pristine earth at the edge. Some could pour over the edge of your rock shelf.
You could use that look to build some filth up to disguise the gap as well: he's sticking to the ground like an infected wound sticking to a plaster.
>>47148637
That's some grimdark right there.
>>47149016
Terrific
>>47149085
What you could do is to add more basing material to the area under the knee to make it flush to the ground. Also, use some grass tufts and push them in between.
>>47149084
Yeah. It wont cover properly without, and look sorta shitty.
>>47149333
>It wont cover properly without, and look sorta shitty.
Assuming you do pic related (which you should), because doing one thick layer will look bad.
>>47148968
>Multiple layers, wash with purple, highlight with silver.
Purple shadows to golden paint? I would recommend some shade of brown, sepia or similar.
>>47149104
Where can i get Tali?
>>47148927
>You got a bone to pick with me?
Maybe, just maybe ... my boys can stop 'em from gettin' the book... yeah ... and maybe I'm a Chinese jet pilot!
>£15 for a transfer sheet
Fifteen quid, for a fucking transfer sheet. Is GW having a laugh? What on Earth is wrong with them?
Is there any way to make a texture like armour look scratched and damaged without actually damaging the mini itself? The muds pretty easy but physically changes seem hard like the legs of pic related.
>>47149727
Do a line of metal and then a line of dark brown on one side of the scrape to add false depth to the cut.
>>47149727
>>47149758
What this guy says, but paint a wqhite line at the bottom instead. Works much better.
>>47149727
http://shakeyourbrush.com/tutorials/weathering-a-space-marine/
>>47149012
nice idea to make seals for letters with candlewax
Bought some masters brush cleaner and restorer at an anon's recommendation - it's awesome. Restored some wrecked brushes (encrusted I'm dried paint from production line base coating) to almost like new.
>>47148494
I like it.
>>47148378
What Perry models did you use for those guys again?
I had a quick look at their store a few weeks back, but I don't think I found them
>>47148383
Is that the dead terminator from Space Hulk?
>>47148430
my dick shrunk back into my body just looking at that, great job anon!

sup /wip/ whatchu workin' one today
finally got my thunderbolt looking like a plane
>>47150532
Looks like it. Different helmet and a chainfist but yeah.
>>47150701
Been working on stripping Army Painter red primer from a bunch of models so I can re-prime to a different color that won't bleed through the blue.
More progress, need actual critic, don't know what else to add
1/2
I meant critique I don't think there are professional nitpickers here.
2/2
A kind anon sent me this and a nice eldar Farseer for the Secret Santa we did last Christmas.
Thanks again anon, but if you're around, would you mind telling me where you got all these tiny metal skulls, as I have a project in mind that makes me think I'll need a lot of them. Thanks in advance.
Failing that, if anyone knows where I can get a shitload of metal skulls for cheap, that'd be great.
>>47150811
For me it looks good just as it is, anymore bits and it may end up looking too busy, which can be a bit off-putting.
>>47150824
>I don't think there are professional nitpickers here.
I think I would actually be more surprised if there were no software testers in /wip/
>>47150920
Try googling for "Bag of Skulls" (Or 'o skullz' or whatever). I know I've seen some around.
>>47150811
I just add gretchin when I cant think of shit to put on ork vehicles
>>47150811
>>47150824
I think its time to stop with this model. Its looking good but you're close to it being too busy.
I like Orks and I get the whole ramshackle orky aesthetic but imo too many ork players just slam too much stuff together and say "Its orky its meant to look like shit"
>>47149723
They need to be designed, composed, and printed on special paper.
Make your own. They still won't be as good as those ones, but cheaper.
>>47151075
those are almost always plastic. I'd say metal is a pretty tall order for loose skulls this day and age.
>>47150920
Why do they need to be metal?
>>47148487
get bass guitar strings to make cables for this weapon.
>>47151349
Never worked with resin, a bit wary of it, afraid it'll not catch the paint or melt.
I'm probably paranoid, maybe I'll just end up buying that resin bag o skulls by secret weapon.
>>47151374
Yeah, you are paranoid. Get resin or plastic, prime it, and you will be fine. I don't know what you are expecting to melt it with.
>>47151374
same here I dont work with resin, the amount of poorly produced resin products puts me off.
>>47151374
Make sure you wash the resin in soapy water and use a toothbrush, same thing with pewter models too. The releasing agent is what causes things not to glue or paint properly
>>47151404
Also this. Especially considering I'll have to deal with 3rd parties. Oh well.
>>47150811
Needs more dakka
>>47151329
15 quid.
It's a joke, it's insane.
>>47151516
ouch. For me it was the finecast that put me off, then I checked stuff like Warlord games
>BA tank unboxing video
>resin kit
>turret looks like someone slammed it against a belt sander
>bent barrel
>mfw
Also fuck all that shit regarding scrubbing in soapy water. I wanna get stuck right in when making models. Not wash them with the dishes before even starting them
>>47151374
Make sure you wash the resin in soapy water and use a toothbrush, same thing with pewter models too. The releasing agent is what causes things not to glue or paint properly
>>47150824
I wouldn't add anything else.
A common pitfall of ork stuff is people add too much and it starts looking like a shit show.
A major thing you need to do before going any further. Do a pass over the whole thing to remove those mould lines and sprue clip marks.
Even the best painted model looks like crap when you can see mould lines.
>>47151390
If he lives in Australia the ambient temperature can melt resin.
I got a few droopy swords on my kreig officers and a mate of mine had parts of his eldar titan melt.
They're all based up, finally, for Lorgar brothers
>>47151828
whoops
>>47151847
>>47151862
Well done anon. You can be proud.
>>47151847
Did you change red recipe? Your (flamer?) guy and the guy without a helmet look really different compared to the others.
Squad looks great though, really nice.
ty lads
>>47151911
I didn't glaze it down as much, which is what I'll take a look at fixing up now in a general cleanup, they're meltas
>>47151862
Good job.
>>47151862
>>47151847
woah bro, really nice models!
>>47149104
>>47149631
I wanna know this too, it's a really nice model
>>47149631
>>47152248
As far as I know they were only sold as a pair at Painting Buddha website and are OOP right now.
Time to prime.
>>47148287
Hey /wip/ I've got a BA and a Tamiya hanomag sdkfz 251 to build and paint and I'm at the stage of painting the interior but I cant find a suitable yellow for the interior. Can anyone help? Pic for a reference. All the pics on google show the sdkfz251 in museums/re-enactments having the same yellow interior
I was thinking maybe Iyanden Darksun but that is a bit too dark.
>>47152301
>I was thinking maybe Iyanden Darksun but that is a bit too dark.
When you have a very specific colour to match and you aren't following a paint-by-numbers scheme, it's time to start mixing.
Try mixing Darksun with something like Ushabti bone.
>>47152381
thnks I'll try it out. Should point out as well I'm using old GW paints, when it was goblin green, chaos black, boltgun metal etc
I think I overdid it with the oxide.
Going to try make a looted Knight with the other one in the Renegade box.
>>47152301
Zandri dust makes a good dunkelgarb (sp?)
>>47151862
>>47151847
This is probably the billionth time you've been asked this, but what is your recipe for that red?
>>47152539
khorne red + evil sunz scarlet with a 50/50 glaze of each to blend them together
>>47152493
Aren't Knights supposed to be piloted by a house? I don't think a knight house, even renegade, would abandon their heraldry for one of the traitor legions', though my knowledge on knight fluff is barely off the base from ignorant.
Alright, I posted this on Toy earlier. My first real attempt at model making.
Brushed Walmart Acrylic paint was used.
>>47152521
ahhhhh yes thats what I'm after! Tah anon I'll try it out
>>47152594
I don't think people argue much when the night lords tell them to do things
>>47152594
Considering the existence of freeblades who abandon their house's heraldry and go solo, the limiting factor would be whether the legion would be OK with a renegade freeblade using the legion's heraldry.
>>47152594
The data sheet in the box says they can fall after being captured and tortured but its a long horrifying process.
It's usually a Freeblade.
>>47152493
Wow, looks just like the FW chaos knight upgrade kit
>>47152559
Simple and easy, I love it! Thank you my dude.
>>47152440
I can't really picture it but I remember tausept ocre being a fairly dim yellow.
>>47152493
Is that an entire church?
>>47152874
thanks I think I'll pick that and zanrdi dust up. n top of that I'll mix ushabti bone and iyanden darksun

>>47152982
It's one of the foundation paints by GW. Not sure if they still do it.
My paints are all from about 5 years ago.
>>47152897
What is that meme a reference to anyway?
>>47152493
Love the model, good job on the church
This has been my work over the last 3 weeks. Nothing but cleaning models. My girlfriend did the dreamer crew though. The daydream proxies are helldorado lemures for anyone interested. Really nice models. There's also a corvid harrier at the back I use for a shikome.
Stuff left of the ruler are still to do. Stuff to the right is ready for basing.
Not pictured are Howard, a defender, ronin and a dead doxy.
Then I have Yan Lo, McMorning and hanged still in boxes.
Sometimes I wish mould lines didn't bother me so much.
>>47153065
same here hah. Thanks though I'll check the conversion charts
>>47153109
A dude didn't know the scale of the model and made a little church on his titan base.
Someone asked and he got super uptight about it making crazy posts to anyone that talked about it.
>>47153185
What is this model?
>>47153265
nothing beast from wyrd
>>47153297
Thanks
>>47153265
Nothing beast. Comes's in the herald of obliterarion box. Those flea looking things and the two women in the front of that row come with it.
All these models are from malifaux by wyrd. The metals are all old OOP ones though so can be pretty hard to get now.
Aside from those 4 lemures and the corvid which are by cypher studios.
>>47148383
>>47148889

>>47148889

This is the kind of LGS that I hope to find whenever I'm done with school and settled down. The only one around here is really sleepy and is basically 99% MtG.
Gentius, first of the Rinon, of the IInd legion, the Voidborn. It's a homebrew legion I'm doing for fun on the side of my White Scars.

What's wrong with your dudes? People make up marine chapters all the time.
>>47151575
>not washing your models
Do you enjoy your models with that paint and glue weakening factory finish?
>>47154053
Chapters is fine, but not a LEGION.
Sure, legions 2 and 11 are removed from the record but making a LEGION requires making a PRIMARCH.
>>47154038
Tl;dr: He was very bad at thinning paint and nothing seemed to be clicking for him and eventually just gave up and was going to get a friend to help him.
>>47154096
yep. I do
>>47152521
>>47152301
I used Zandri on this. Though I intentionally did it less neat to look more expediently applied over the standard grey.
>>47154105
>Chapters is fine, but not a LEGION
Isn't the whole point of the two expunged legions to leave room for a homebrew loyalist legion and a homebrew traitor legion?
>>47154303
thats nice! Nice job mate. Although is that the zandri dust straight over the grey or is there other layers/washes added?
>>47154540
No.
No it isn't.
Nobody wants you to invent your shitty homebrew Primarch.
>>47154540
they were added in to get people thinking "why were these legions completely annihilated", not "at last I can make my own donut steel legion who are all stronger than the emperor"
That's the purpose of all those little one line blurbs of fluff you'll see in the codexes and rulebooks. Ain't a good setting if there isn't a little mystery to it.
>>47154570
Actually, yes, that's exactly why they did it. Why are you even sperging out over some anon you'll never meet having his own brand of fun?
Britbong here, does anybody have any recommendations for brushes which are gud, but not quite as expensive as Citadel's shit?
I know this is begging for a 'go to ebay' answer, but if someone here has a more precise recommendation that they're willing to share then I'll risk the heat
Hey guys,
Just picked up an airbrush kit second hand off eBay and it came with a few createx wicked colour paints. It's the first time I've heard about this brand. Is it any good for minis??
It also came with some of the W500 reducer. Can that stuff be used well with other paints like vallejo and GW??
>>47154698
So what does it hurt if anon's fluff is some marines surviving the purge?
How does TG rate my painting, this is my first finished model, it's taken me at least 10 hours to paint. Does TG have any advice on painting better BUT quicker at the same time? And don't tell me to thin my paints, I did.
>>47154873
Maybe a better photo
>>47154624
It may have started as a way to add a little mystery and emphasize the shear number of lost information in the imperium. But now that we have 30k, its also the perfect excuse to let people build their own legions with their own explanations as to how they ended up expunged from imperial record. Which, if you follow the "Your Dudes" theory of fluffcrafting, is kinda neat.
>>47154934
Or even
>>47154934
Its good, but the highlights are kinda stark. Maybe dilute the paint a bit with medium? I know water will just run the paint everywhere if you add too much.
The point would be to make the paint more transparent and blend better with the base color.
>>47154633
>Sideways pic
>Poorly painted mini
>Unique legion
Yeah sure. It might turn out okay.
>>47154873
>>47154934
Not bad at all for your first model.
Your highlights could be thinner and the black is very flat. It also looks like you've overwashed the scrolls and skull.
Most of this stuff will fix itself the more you paint and get better brush control and so on, but for improving this specific model I'd say go back and clean up the highlights, add a brighter layer or two to the scrolls/skull and maybe try to make the gems/blood drops look a bit better.
Very good for a first model though, low tabletop quality for certain.
Working on some emperor's children. That wing is a nightmare to freehand desu
>>47154934
When edge highlighting, use a fine detail brush, and don't be afraid to use the edge; not everything has to be 'tip tip tip'. Also thin your paints a tad bit more, either with an extra tiny drop of water or some lahmian medium
Some areas need to be cleaned up where you've smudged (i.e, the pipe behind the flamer, a few dots on the black armour)
Your chassis and piping looks a little flat, did you highlight them? If so, maybe do some more. If not, do some. Maybe it's the lighting, I can't tell.
Straight lines are hard; practice beforehand, or maybe use some tape (and then stroke down rather than up the tape,) when painting them
As for painting 'better but quicker', the only answer short of a miracle or precise prosthetic arms is to practice
Watch some Duncan for general pointers
>>47155000
czeched
>>47154873

I guess it's like with daemon engines. Even though they're made by various groups or merely borrowed to a warband by a forge world or a dark god, they can still carry the warbands markings.
I would have expected some personalized style with legion markings instead of just plain Night Lords knight, but that's just me. At least it's not a loyalist knight with chapter colours and symbols. That always triggers me.

That is almost the exact opposite of what happened. 90% of his stuff is just basic airbrushing.

1. Get a proper airbrush setup.
2. Basic one step chipping and oil stains.
3. Actual snow basing instead of stupid ass baking powder/filler garbage.

Special Rule: Waaagh! the flying humies
If a model within a squad of orks has this special rule then the whole squad is considered to have this special rule.
Sidenote: units that do not have this special rule within the squad can jump on the pole and be thrown off into the air by the ork with the special rule, this counts as an assault move therefore locking aircraft in combat with orks flying in the air thrown off by another ork.

For a lot of people the lore is a lot of the fun.
The lore is intentionally hole-ridden to allow for homebrews and stuff but then there's people that fly in the face of the lore like the legion guy.
This is not nearly as fun to play against for a lot of people that get enjoyment from the lore, 30k is even more specifically lore adherent than 40k is so this can be even less enjoyable.
This isn't a criticism of the legion guy, but for a LOT of people (myself included), playing games that fit in the over all universe of the game is where we get a lot of the fun. Especially because the rules fucking suck and all we have left are the lore and our plastic army guys.

"Bolter 2" - 070121/39
"Bolter 3" - 070121/44
"Gunner 1" - 072129/21
Bottom row of >>47158363, from left to right:
"Bolter 4" - 070121/41
"Ultra Marine Captain" - 070268/6
"Gunner with control box" - 071533/18
"Synth" (Eldar Musician) - 071519/40C
Also, da 'eavy weapon dere is a grenade launcher. Don't have a part number for that one, though.
Pic *almost* kinda related.
>>47158811
It is common enough.
I do kill teams so achievements are kind of easier to track though in my circles.
I have a Slaanesh warband led by a marine sergeant dissatisfied with his upward movement within the chapter and it's strict "no sex and drugs" policies so he secretly seduced the men under him for the better part of a campaign and full on left. They live in the shadows of a hive city and recruit the gang members and other dreks to their cause. Due to their size and strength they are followed like an angel or demigod would. They use cultists to great effect and pull them into their ranks when their own losses grow to high. They are only about 20 men strong currently but with countless followers it doesn't matter.
It gets weird though when the same dude has died 80 times.
>>47159167

>>47159182
Heh, yeah, I imagine characters dying makes less sense at lower point games.

>>47159677
>A wash with Nuln Oil might help you out.
D'oh! OK, according to the very tutorial I posted, the proper colour for the wash is the blood of our most holy saviour, Agrax Earthshade - the closest equivalent to Devlan Mud in the current Citadel line - and not Nuln Oil.
>>47159722
Agrax Earthshade is nothing like Devlan Mud, just FYI. Devlan Mud is brown and Agrax is reddish.
Army Painter Strong Tone or Coat d'Arms brown wash are near exact matches for Devlan Mud.
You might get better results with Seraphim Sepia and a bit of Nuln Oil rather than Agrax.

start with black undercoat, then a basecoat of rakarth flesh. give it a wash of agrax earthshade, then once it's dry, re-apply the rakarth flesh leaviung the agrax in the recesses showing.
Then, you mix a little Lahmian medium with Pallid Wych Flesh for the skin highlights. after that, a series of washes mixed with lahmian medium - first carroburh crimson one or two layers until I'm satisfied, then Druchii violet (if that was the name, might be remembering wrong) one or two washes, and then you're done!
just remember to keep the washes of red and purple in the corner-folds. I can really recommend checking out how Duncan painted the Putrid Bligtkings, that is more or less what I followed.
