Anons, I need help. I cant decide if I should model the BaC chaplain with a chainfist or lighting claw instead of the plasma pistol, Im thinking of using the pointing power fist from the termies to make the lighting claws.

Which is the better loadout? AP4+AP3 or AP2 plus tank killing potential?.

if your giving it a lightning claw instead of pistol,, you might as well replace the crozius with another.

But seriously 1 army having 2 Terminator squads is a bit much. I would have preferred if instead of Grave Wardens, Death Guard had a unique Power Armoured Destroyer squad like pic related.
>>
>>44273203
It's not all bad, you've got good head upgrades, good rules for units that have no models and one of the better primarchs.

what i'd like to know is what the SoH heads are supposed to be. they look like fish.
>>
>>44273289
I think they tried to make them look like something from the cthulhu mythos, since they come from the planet Cthonia. Hence the slightly fishy/aquatic look. Sea green plate helps too.

I don't like the helmets, but the sea green/bronze/black combo is beautiful imo. Black and white seems bland in comparison.

Do prefer the Luna Wolves to the SoH in the books though, for obvious reasons.

Not sure if FW published a guide anywhere.
But an Anon posted a nice quite guide to toned black a few threads back, you could use that (found it, have included it).

As for the yellow, that probably comes down to not making the yellow too bright and washing it down with a brown or black wash to make it look grittier.

>>44277588
In his defense, it was a pretty dumb question. Like, do you have any experience putting space marines together at all? It's pretty straightforward.

Also, fuck you for getting dubs. Those were supposed to be mine.
>>
>>44277731
None whatsoever. Literally my first time. The assembly guide is pretty simple. Painting is what I'm most concerned about.
>>
>>44277823
Oh fuck, never mind then. You're in for a hell of a ride.

Word of advice, by the way. If you're new at all to painting, I'd seriously advise picking up a cheap couple of space marines to practice your technique on. If you blow your load all over the BaC set, you're going to regret it a year or two down the line when they look like shit compared to what you can paint then.
>>
>>44277823
Watch a tutorial video for the scheme youre going yo paint. Watch several of them. Listen to everything the guy says, and pay attention to the consistency of his various paints/colors. Try to duplicate everything you like.
>>
>>44277864
>>44277921
Thanks for the tips. Also, should I buy Citadel paints or is there a better alternative?
>>
>>44277823
>Step one:
Acquire three crappy space marines. These ones: http://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Space-Marines
>Step two:
Find a very simple color scheme--not yellow, red, orange, white, or bone. I personally feel that dark blue is an easy one to start with.
>Step three
Find a tutorial video for that scheme, or find a recipe and watch a couple general videos to get technique tips. You want at the very least a basecoat and a highlight, and probably a wash as well.
>Step four:
Prime and paint the first marine. He may look like shit or he may look okay. Doesn't matter. Do the same for the other two.
>Step five
Strip the paint off of them by soaking them in Simple Green for 24 hours and scrubbing them with a toothbrush in the sink.
>Step six
Prime and paint them again.
>Step seven
You're probably ready at this point to start on the BaC marines. Don't paint anything besides basic space marines until you have a full tac squad you can field, then you'll be good enough to start on your characters, vehicles, etc.

>>44277963
Doesn't matter as long as it's explicitly an acrylic paint for miniatures. Citadel, Vallejo, Coat D'Arms, and others are all good, and it's silly to restrict yourself to just one. I like vallejo and citadel the best; the former for their dropper bottles and nice color sets, the latter for some fantastic colors and really good shades and technical paints. It's all down to your own preference, really.

Citadel paints are pretty good, honestly. It can take quite a bit of money to get started with what you need though. Personally, I mostly use Vallejo acrylics.

If you haven't already, you should lurk /wip/ and get some feedback from the guys there, as well as watch some based Duncan.

Thank you for this. I'll definitely be trying what you suggested. I've found several SoH painting guides so I guess I can play around with those crappy marines and see what works and what doesn't. Also, the 'thin your paints' thing... Should I just dab my brush in water before painting a section?

>>
>>44278085
The GW youtube channel has fantastic tutorial vids. It's what the Duncan guy >>44278051 is talking about is from. He always makes a point of showing how to thin your paints in each video. Watch at least one of those vids, no matter what model its for--painting techniques will transfer to a wide variety of models.

Incidentally, I didn't mention it in my other post, but SoH are definitely one of the easy legions for beginners. I would highly recommend you prime black and put on a couple thin coats of paint to work up to the color you want. Priming white requires a lot more work to cover up every inch of the model or else the white peeks through.

So I was looking through the Tahgmata army list book, and I didn't realize just how much the Admech had changed.

Cybernetica and reductor are not functionally rites of war, and wow does it suck to use Cybernetica if you don't want to just spam Castellax...which I mean...is viable...but that tax of 'must have a cortex in every slot before other options' makes it a bitch to squeeze aircraft and auxilla in.

Someone mind giving me some feedback on this list?

Tahgmata List (3,000)

HQ

Archmagos Prime (300)
-Cyber familiar
-Machinator array
-Paragon Blade
-Abeyant
-Rad Furnace
-Phase walker

Elites

Tech priest Auxilla (110)
+1 adept
-Lacyraemarta
-Enginseer
-Cortex controller
-Servo-Automata servo arm
-2x Servitor flamer

Troops

Castellax maniple (360)
-3x Robots
-3x Enhanced Targeting Array

Castellax maniple (360)
-3x Robots
-3x Enhanced Targeting Array

Castellax Maniple (420)
-3x robots
-3x Enhanced Targeting Array
-3x Darkfire Cannons

Thallax (150)
-multi-melta

Thallax (145)
-phased plasma fusil

Adsecularis (35 points)

Fast Attack

Vorax Battle Automata (105 pts)
-Bio-corrosive rounds
-Paragon of metal

Heavy Support

Thanatar Siege-Automata (270)
-Enhanced Targeting Array

Krios Venator (150)

Krios Venator (150)

Lord of War

Knight Atrapos (445)
-Occular Augmetics

Plan is to have the Vorax as an outflanking distraction unit, thanatar stays back with the DFC robots and auxilla walks up with the castellax to keep them in line. Archmagos teleports around ruining bitches and claiming objectives.

I'm not sure if it's better to go with 2 small groups of thallax, one for deepstrike tank hunting and one for utility, or a group of 6 with 2 multi-meltas. Also, do you think I should try to squeeze in a dominius and then hide it in a group of castellax for more cortex coverage? I was gonna keep them as one big super dangerous blob of bullets to support my knight.
>>
>>44278160
*are now functionally.

Also, those point increases suck, but Castellax were the most under-costed unit ever basically.

New to wargaming in general anon? You sure went in the deep end. Go to your flgs and have a chat, ask for some guidance etc. They likely have a bitsbox, get some cheap ass models out of there and use them to practice before you touch your expensive and lovely HH stuff. IF yout lgs is a GW they are pretty much obligated to help you out, but your results may vary.

Apart from that, google. Maybe youtube vids on getting started, assembly, painting, etc.

Don't expect stuff to be easy, but it's easier than you think when you can find someone with the rights advise.

So.... If I get a veteran squad and give them sniper, all weapons in the squad use the sniper rule, corrent? So a Missile Launcher would fire 4+ poison, ap5, blast or poison 4+, ap 3, 1shot. And str 4 against vehicles.

Is there anyway to not use the sniper rule for those models equipped with special weapons?
>>
>>44282081
According to the FAQ, how it works is

- ap2 if you roll a 6 to wound
- always wound on at least at 4+, but if S is better, use that
- at least s4 on vehicles.

So for a missile launcher all you really get is assurances against t9/t10, and ap2 on wound rolls of 6.

Sniper works great with Heavy Bolters though.

In my opinion the two actual Battlefleet Gothic books (by Gordon Rennie) have some pretty cool battles in them (The Gothic War bundle), and the description of the close quarter space battles in the Dembski-Bowden Nightlord trilogy novels are rather cool as well.

>>
>>44287794
So are people still salty that GW didn't reproduce the Castellax in plastic for 40k?
>>
>>44291022
I like the Castellax in Resin.

I already magnetized mine so that they can swap between Bolt Cannons and Darkfires, and Bolter/Flamer/Siege Wrecker on each Castellax. I also made the top-mounted turrets turnable.

With Plastic, they would likely change the attachment points, making it not feasible to magnetize them entirely.

Or they would BaC contemptor-ify it, and make one that was stuck in MBC+2x Bolter config with a strange pose.
>>
Any good alternative ultramarine schemes so the marines don't just like the 40k version of the army.
>>
>>44291022
Why would they? Kastelans are robots that need someone to give them orders, while Castellaxes are more independent with cybernetic brains. The idea is to have a distinction between Mechanicum and Mechanicus. They're not the same, as neither are SM legions and chapters.
>>
What's with Mk. 2, 3 and 4 suits being no longer available on FW store? They're not "out of stock," they're "no longer available," the stuff GW says when they stop producing a model. Are they replacing them with new sculpts or something?
>>
>>44292404
Probably need rescuplting to match the BaC stuff. The guns needed to be redone with hands attached, so now the need to redo their suits to not have hands on the right arm.
>>
>>44292404

I would imagine they're replacing them with new sculpts that are missing the right hand so they can fit with the new heavy/special weapons
>>
>>44291022
No because I dislike GW plastics. I was looking at my friend's BaC Cataphractii terminators yesterday and the detail is horrible compared to the resin versions.
>>
>>44292494

So, I'm spitballing ideas for an army, and one idea that I came up with: a small Word Bearers force that broke off from the rest of the legion and essentially taken-in by the proto-Inquisition as one of the first penance crusaders. They're constantly hounded by the Word Bearer branch from which they splintered off of.

That's just the bare bones of what I have so far, but I'm not sure about it yet.

>Why?

I really like the post-Heresy Word Bearer color scheme, and I'd like a reason for how I could play both Loyalist and Traitor versions of it.

Although, I understand that when it comes to playing Loyalist versions of Traitor legions, especially those that maintain the colors of the Traitors, the Word Bearers are particularly difficult to justify, since they've been knee-deep (at best, probably) in Chaos stuff for much longer, and had quite a bit more time to prune-out the doubters.
>>
>>44283961
Russ was pretty well affected by psychic powers. His whole legion was, to the point they were getting squashed on the ground despite no space and air resistence, until the sisters started doing their stuff.

Ahriman said they rune priests are kind of annoying to perceive in the warp, that's about it.

I'd remove the witchbane because there's no basis on that and instead give him his Howl, maybe as a once per game deal. Deal d3 auto-hits on all enemy units within 12", change that to d6 and Fear on units with a Psyker.
>>
The BAC contemptor only comes with one Kheres cannon right? I'd have to get another one from FW or from another BAC set?
>>
>>44296663
Yes. You get the assault cannon, a multi-melta and a dread arm with combi-bolter.

Has anybody else here had any luck with a 30k list against 40k armies? I bought the BaC box to build a Red Scorpions army, but I keep checking out this 30k general and seeing all these cool legions with interesting rules...I want to play a tactical marine heavy army...should I go 30k or just stick with tactical heavy Red Scorpions since they have access to all the 40k toys that'll help me keep up with the Tau/Eldar/Necrons at my store?
>>
>>44297393
play 30k where tacticals are actually useful and not just a way to put more razorbacks on the table
>>
>>44297411
How are they made more useful?
>>
>>44298035
they have fury of the legion, so they can doubletap their bolters once per game and just fuck somebody off the board, as well as being one of the few units that actually score
also, 30k is more balanced, and fun, than regular 40k because there isnt shit like wraithknights and stormsurges and whatnot running around, its all pretty much a fair fight except where the alpha legion is involved

They are the Terran-born pre-Corax XIX legionaries. They were known for brutally effective raids, infiltration/sabotage missions, and their "Ends justify the means" attitude. They are reasonable marines if they were lawful evil. They were often used by Horus to run black ops. They were quick, effective, dirty, and merciless. They are also proto-Carcharodons.

So a Moritat does two wounds to himself everytime he uses chain-fire? Unless he decides to just stop firing before he rolls a 1 or a 2? Which Im pretty sure you cant do.
