Fun Fact. Both times Marlins went to the playoffs (97' and 03') they had to go against the Giants in the NLDS. Beating them with a swept and a fantastic game 4 for '03 (3-1)

That might be true, however: the Marlins have 1) Don Mattingly, who is literally allergic to World Series rings and 2) Barry Bonds, who was cursed with incredible baseball skill in exchange for never receiving a ring
In addition, it's literally an even year.

I never said the Marlins will get a WS ring(though it'd be awesome). Just beat the Giants. That's all. This is the second team Don has coach and first time Barry is a hitting coach. Marlins are a weird team, I'm optimistic.
>>
>>68969095
It's not publicly known whether Bonds received a 2010 ring (it was rumored), and I don't think he got one in 2012, but he definitely did get one in 2014 as a spring training advisor.

I know I've posted this stuff quite a bit, but I just think it's interesting (autism).

Ever since the BBWAA started their crusade against everyone they "suspected" or knew of using roids save a sacred few "clean", I've toyed with the idea of a live-ball HOF; I figure part of their logic is also comparing the roid-era players solely to players from before the live-ball era, which is fucking absurd.

So I came up with the "live-ball Hall" idea. Only a few rules:
>careers must have STARTED in or after 1920, when the live-ball was implemented (sorry, Babe)
>top 10 in career JAWS at their position are automatically in
>top 10 in career WAR are also automatics, even if they're not top 10 in JAWS
>above rules apply for the top 25 starting pitchers and 5 relief pitchers on each leaders list
>players who are real HOFers but not on the lists are still HOFers
>banned players (basically Pete Rose) are not considered
>"steroid"/stimulant/drug use is not taken into consideration unless they led to the player(s) being banned

I realize this isn't perfect, but neither is the BBWAA's method. There may be players who don't deserve to be within a mile of Cooperstown, or some surprising omissions from the real thing. Feel free to deb8.

For example, here's the list for starting pitchers who would, in theory, make the Hall:

>Live-Ball HOF Starting Pitchers
Roger Clemens
Tom Seaver
Lefty Grove
Randy Johnson
Greg Maddux
Warren Spahn
Bob Gibson
Phil Niekro
Bert Blyleven
Steve Carlton
Gaylord Perry
Pedro Martinez
Robin Roberts
Fergie Jenkins
Curt Schilling
Mike Mussina
Tom Glavine
Nolan Ryan
Jim Palmer
Wes Ferrell
Bob Feller
Hal Newhouser
Roy Halladay
Juan Marichal
Carl Hubbell
Ted Lyons
Red Ruffing
Rick Reuschel
John Smoltz
Kevin Brown

Remember, I used the top 25 starting pitchers by JAWS, then compared it with the top 25 SP by career WAR list, and added any from the latter but not the former.

I'll post the lists for other positions as well.

and that's including the old-timers (who aren't included in my theoretical HOF), who had an easier time racking up stats because the elite ones tended to play for so goddamn long.

Now, relief pitchers.

>Relief Pitchers
Dennis Eckersley
Mariano Rivera
Hoyt Wilhelm
Rich Gossage
Bobby Shantz
Tom Gordon
Trevor Hoffman
Bruce Sutter
Rollie Fingers

You'll notice this one's a bit wonky, because there are about 6 and only 6 deserving relief pitchers. Had to include the last two even though they're way behind the others because HOFers, and Tom Gordon because I believe he got shafted–he was solid as a starter, reliever and closer.

Johnny Bench
Gary Carter
Ivan Rodriguez
Carlton Fisk
Mike Piazza
Yogi Berra
Bill Dickey
Mickey Cochrane
Joe Mauer
Ted Simmons
Gabby Hartnett

Simmons is the only non-active, non-HOFer, and of course Mauer's still playing. Hartnett was in the top 10 for WAR, so he's in as well.

Now here's where it really gets fun.

>First Base
Lou Gehrig
Albert Pujols
Jimmie Foxx
Jeff Bagwell
Johnny Mize
Frank Thomas
Jim Thome
Miguel Cabrera
Rafael Palmeiro
Willie McCovey
Eddie Murray
Miguel Cabrera

Yes, Palmeiro's pretty much exiled, but he wasn't banned, from baseball. But he's 10th in JAWS, so he's on the list.

And the 2Bs.

>2B
Joe Morgan
Charlie Gehringer
Rod Carew
Bobby Grich
Ryne Sandberg
Jackie Robinson
Lou Whitaker
Chase Utley
Roberto Alomar
Craig Biggio
Willie Randolph

The Whitaker-Trammell lovers could rejoice. Alan makes the SS list, too.

The 2010 Rangers werent a world series caliber team in 2010 they built a team that could beat the Yankees after coming off the 2009 win, we totally expected to play them in the ALDS and then that was it no one really expected them to go to a world series. The Rangers fought hard against the Rays in the ALDS who at that time were a legitimate deep playoff run team. Remember the Rangers were fresh off bankruptcy and being owned by the league.

Omar is 41st in JAWS and 30th in WAR, so the numbers wouldn't support him. He's a guy I like and wish, too, will get in, but I doubt he'll make it.
Lofton is really underrated as both a fielder and baserunner, and I don't know why he and Jim Edmonds both slipped through the cracks just like that, considering they're two of the top 5 CFs of the 90s/00s.

so i watched the phenom today and it was a really weird movie, ethan hawk, and giamatti were excellent as you would expect. It had a lot less to do with actual baseball situations than you would expect, its really focused on characters and authentic conversations and events. It has hints of themes from whiplash although very minimal. As a baseball movie you probably wont enjoy it but its worth watching in my opinion. Overall i enjoyed it but the ending felt unsatisfying and "scattered", didnt really get any cathartic payoff or anything but i guess that would be pretty stereotypical and cheesy which this movie avoids pretty much entirely.

overall solid 7/10

Why is it you never see Cardinals "fans" posting in these threads? Is it the fact that they're disloyal and fair-weather?

I can't fucking wait for the cubs to finally win the WS in like 40 years or some shit and for them to have the audacity to invite bartman back to apologize to him like the red sox did with buckner. Bartman denying them would be hilarious
>>
>Because there were no replay boards or JumboTrons in Wrigley Field at the time, no one in the crowd knew of Bartman until audience members' friends and family members who were watching the game on TV started calling them on cell phones, informing them of Bartman and his appearance. Many Cub fans began pointing toward Bartman, repeatedly chanting "asshole". Bartman had to be led away from the park under security escort for his own safety as many Cubs fans shouted insults toward him and others threw debris at Bartman, with one fan even dumping a cup of beer on him. Security escorted Bartman and two people who accompanied him to the game toward the exit tunnel from the field. News footage of the game showed him surrounded by security as passersby pelted him with drinks and other debris. As many as six police cars gathered outside his home to protect Bartman and his family following the incident.[11] Afterwards, then-Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich suggested that Bartman join a witness protection program
