Clemson OOC:
S Carolina State (easy win)
Troy (easy win)
Georgia Tech (probably will lose, but if they win it's not like they can proclaim themselves NCG worthy)

FSU OOC:
Ole Miss (probably will lose, but if they win it's not like they can proclaim themselves NCG worthy)
Charleston Southern (easy win)
South Florida (AAC, easy win)
Florida (no clue how Florida will do this year)

Yes, the ACC is trash. Both these teams will struggle with these schedules, but even 12-0 is indicative of nothing, with that much FCS trash involved.

Notre Dame, Louisville, and technically Pitt are in states that don't border the Atlantic Ocean, but all three are in the eastern timezone at least. Philadelphia, and Pennsylvania, sits on the mouth of the Delaware River, not the ocean.

The SEC has Texas A&M and Missouri which aren't southeastern.
>>
>>68225234
/spoiler/Boise State University/spoiler/

It's bound to happen. They are/have greatly improved academics the past few years, from what i've read
>>
>>68225324
>tfw no qt3.14 new SWC
Why live bros?
>>
>>68225234
no, we've been over this

PAC expansion targets would need to have all of the following
>academic standards worthy of AAU membership
>research production on par with current members
>athletic strength in multiple sports, particularly olympic ones
>be located regionally close to existing members
>have another school close by that also meets all of the above conditions, so that they can be partners like the rest of the PAC has

so that means there are ZERO candidates. they'd have to compromise on multiple conditions if they wanted any school, which they aren't willing to do any time soon.
>>
>>68219448
I heard some big 12 teams are talking about snapping up your TV rights with change they found in their couches and using it as filler for their online streaming at 3am when their chess clubs replays are done
>>

only conferences with valid Championship games should steal tv rights

By that metric, they should've booted AZ and ASU years ago.

Don't you worry, gentle anon. They won't be so high and mighty when they look at the spreadsheet and see how much money they can make.
>>
>>68226178
>gentle anon
I think they'll be willing to consider more compromises when the dominoes start to fall and it looks like expansion will be necessary, but they're too high and mighty to think about it now that they've hit 12. it's going to be stuck like this until the financial landscape changes drastically.
>>
>>68226205
... or unless they decide they want to kill the Big 12 just to watch it die.

>>
>>68226178
But even then, who would they take?

UNLV is the probably the only market big enough to justify having to cut the pie into another slice, and it's a transplant and transitory town

Then again, they added Utah and Salt Lake City has a population under 200k, making it smaller than Reno or Boise

"Southeastern" is a relative term, and somewhat arbitrary. Technically Texas, New Mexico and Arizona are all "south" and yet we always refer to the Civil War south when we say this.

Divide the country into quadrants, TX and MO technically qualify, and then you remember conference titles are economic entities with aesthetic titles having no basis in reality and you get on with your day and finish your pizza rolls.

Honestly not soon. VTech is bound to have a couple down years as they adjust from a defense-first team to an offensive team. It'll be a rough transition. There are 8 definitive blu blood programs in cfb today. Alphabetically they are:

Alabama
Michigan
Nebraska
Notre Dame
Ohio State
Oklahoma
Texas
USC

Now, there is always a lot of debate in /cfb/ threads whether Nebraska is still a blu blood or not. They are, but give them another 5-10 years of mediocrity and then I'd say there status really is in jeopardy.

And then there are a few fringe teams that have a strong case to apply for blu blood-ship but they aren't quite there yet. Those teams are:

Florida State
Miama
Penn State
Tennessee
>>
>>68237963
I like the idea of college football royalty and nobility better, since you can move up or down tiers over time and being "second tier" doesn't sound as much like an insult when you call them nobility
>>
>>68237963
texas has more in common with that lower tier than the first tier

nebraska and miami have same amount of titles and miami has been relevant more recently than nebraska.

Somebody start a gofundme
>>

Bowl Bound College Football is decent.
>>
>>68238214
>miami has been relevant more recently than nebraska
Miami has two titles since 1990, Nebraska has three, so your argument there is invalid.
On top of that, Miami has had like four or five 6-loss or losing seasons since their last title. while Nebraska has only had two.
>>
>>68238564
but those titles came 2 decades ago. miami had great teams only 15 years ago.

>implying it should have been 3 but massive refball happened

I am not even going to debate that since that title nebraska has been way way better
>>

>>
>>68238685
between now and 5 years ago sure, but not between 15 and 20
>>
>>68238728
whatever I am getting away from my point. yes over last 25 years nebraska has been the better program but its only marginal. not enough to seperate a blueblood and a tier below.
>>
>>68238767
>but its only marginal
m8 under Tom Osbourne, Nebraska never had fewer than 9 wins every season, for 25 straight years. That's the definition of dominance.
>>
>>68237963
Tbh how long will it take for Notre Dame to be out of the discussion?

When was the last time they won anything without inherent bias handing them a heisman trophy or undeserved championship?
>>
>>68238825
I really dont put too much stock into winning seasons. Yeah osbourne won 4 titles and I think thats the better measurement of success.

I mean bobby bowden put up similar numbers for a long time and you cant say fsu was better than miami.

if you look at that they won the same amount of "recognized" titles then they have the same. I guess its how big of a thing you put on national titles that are unrecognized. nebraska seems to have a lot of those and I wont debate those because I dont have a clue about those.

The Texas Tech one is overly optimistic, i know. They don't believe in defense and our offense, aside from QB since i dont know much about him, is pretty solid and can put up points.

WKU lost some great players and we play them at home so i think thats a more than winnable game.

We always find some way to lose to a conference team on the road that we should beat.

UTSA has always given us troubles and been a close game, no matter if its home or away.Just noticed its homecoming though so could probably flip it to a W cause of extra crowd and motivation

I think that was the point he was trying to make. Since Zona isn't a football school, he had low expectations there, and winning the PAC 12 south a few years ago was enough to warrant a fat paycheck.

App State is the most popular underdog team outside of WKU in the country, they're easy to root for and they've had a lot of success in the past. GSU is also on the upswing. They're fun teams to watch.

They seriously need to add EKU, Chattanooga, JMU, and someone else. If there's a Texas school that wants to move up that'd be good because there are no Florida or Mississippi schools, and overpopulating NC or VA with William & Mary or Campbell/Elon would be a terrible idea (even though Elon would be a great choice for academic reasons).

CCU literally got invited to FBS like five minutes ago. They'll see an attendance spike when they actually play their first FBS schedule, which will not last forever but is the window in which someone usually makes the case for a new stadium/stadium expansion.

With Texas State this happened right away, but with, say, FIU, it took a number of years. So we'll see.

Depends on the school. My freshman year I started at an 1100 student NAIA school (they've since moved to D3), and it was crazy-fun. Far enough away from a major city that it was less like high school, and everyone knew each other. Unfortunately their department for my preferred major turned out to be trash.

There are benefits to that setup, tho, just as there were benefits to the 35k student school I transferred to.

Nah. Selling out the stadium doesn't award you anything, and "best team in history" is subjective. Just like winning the "Big" "12."

I challenge you to find a better team than 1995 Nebraska. Using actual stats and ranking systems, the only team that comes close is 2001 Miami. Numbers and statistics are not subjective

And Nebraska hasn't been dominant, but they have not been consistently bad. They have still gone to bowl games each year, with an exception of two years. Look at Michigan and Notre Dame, they have arguably accomplished about as much as Nebraska in this era.

Nebraska even had the nation's top defense in 2009, so let's not pretend they've been utter garbage. They have had only 5 seasons where they finished less than 9 wins.

No.

They were already dropping off a few years before they switched conferences, as the culture and technology of the game changed and was bound to favor more populous and fast-paced eras, in a time when kids don't want to go to the middle of a goddamn corn field to play ball.

They got paid, but they'll never be good again. That conference belongs to Ohio State and whichever Michigan school is good this year.
>>
>>68256588

>>
>>68255976
>Has Notre Dame done ANYTHING since 2011?
Been to a NCG. Have finished 3/5 of those years ranked.

>Has Michigan done ANYTHING since 2011?
Finished ranked 3/5 of those years. Won a BCS bowl.

>Has USC done ANYTHING since 2011?
Finished ranked 4/5 of those years. Would have been in a BCS bowl/Pac 12 title game in 2011 if it weren't for sanctions. Won P12 south one year.

>Has Tennessee done ANYTHING since 2011?
No. Finished ranked once.

>Has Texas done ANYTHING since 2011?
No. Finished ranked once.

Nebraska meanwhile finished ranked 3 times (never higher than 23) with a B1G title game appearance where they got BTFO cause their division sucked.

So to answer your question out of those 5 teams you listed as teams that haven't done shit since 2011 all them besides Tennessee have done more than Nebraska since 2011, yes.
>>
>>68256868

Tennessee is not even close to blue blood status..

They've had only 9 winning seasons since 2000 (only 2 of those coming since 2008).

Compare that to say, Michigan who's been "average" according to a lot of people since 2000. They've had 13 winning seasons since 2000, and 5 winning seasons since 2008 (even during the worst 7 year stretch in program history 08-14).

Ohio State had one of the most potent offenses in ppg and defenses in ypg. That is not subjective. You have yet to show me how 1995 Nebraska was not the best team, while I provided a few reasons here >>68253439

Numbers are never subjective. To claim they are is absolutely laughable.

>>68256868
And how is any of that much better USC has lost all CCG they've been to (the point about if they didn't get sanctioned is irrelevant, they did and that's what matters), as has Nebraska. Yes Nebraska got buttfucked by Wisconsin (3 times) under Pelini, which is why he was rightfully fired.

They finished ranked 3 times. This shows they were still good, just not great. More the mediocre kind. I get that. But that does not at all take away their status among the elite.

USC, Tennessee, Texas, and Michigan all have more losses than Nebraska since 2011.

We know we can run the ball now after shitting all over UCLA. Mike Riley is starting to bring in his guys and his recruiting has been excellent. Riley will have his first starters on the team this year, and after one year in his system, returning players will better time to improve rather than re-learning the game in a new pro-style system. Armstrong is inconsistent, but has excellent running ability to help. Our receiving corps may be the best in the conference. Our offense should be very potent.

>Not fixed.
We will not have a single returning DT, so the run defense will drop off. Our pass defense will also suffer with the loss of S Nate Gerry and DB Josh Bandaras. However, some young guys stepped up last year and should give us a decent backfield.

Using a formula I created I've created a definitive list of blue bloods. The qualifications are having less than 20% of a schools seasons being .500 or worse dating back to 1900 (with at least 75 seasons played). Wins that have been pulled by the NCAA do apply, so for example Ohio State had a winning season in 2010. Some teams sat out seasons during WWI and WWII which is why there is varying amounts of seasons played (D1 FBS only obviously).

DEFINITIVE BLUE BLOOD TIER (Percentage of seasons at .500 or worse):

Michigan: 11.2% (13/116)
Notre Dame: 11.2% (13/116)
Ohio State: 11.2% (13/116)
Alabama: 11.4% (13/114)
Oklahoma: 16.4% (19/116)
Texas: 17.2% (20/116)
Penn State: 17.2% (20/116)
USC: 19.8% (23/116)

OUTSIDE LOOKING IN TIER:
Nebraska: 22.4% (26/116)
Tennessee: 26.3% (30/113)
Georgia: 27.2% (31/114)
LSU: 27.8% (32/115)
Virginia Tech: 28.9% (33/114)
Washington: 29.3% (34/116)

>IMPLYING TIER:
Florida: 31% (31/100)
Auburn: 32.2% (37/115)
Texas A&M: 35.3% (41/116)
Michigan State: 37.4% (43/115)
Clemson: 37.9% (44/116)
Miami: 38.8% (31/80)

Hey faggot learn to read.

This is just a formula and both those teams are quite a ways away from qualifying and are most likely to be in the "implying tier" probably within 10 years.

>Your school
Meeeechigan
>Concerns you had going into the offseason that have been fixed
Peppers may be a decent solution at lb, McCray is said to be in total beastmode at the moment, so that weakness is not looking too bad.
>Concerns you had going into the offseason that aren't fixed
We need a much better run game this year, and it's hard to say whether we'll have it or not. I don't believe we're actually a top 5 team, but the confernce looks to be as wide open as it has been for awhile. We'll see what happens I guess.

>Your prediction for your team
Anything from 9-4 to running the regular season slate is reasonable imo. I'll be a homer and say 12-2 B1G champs, drop one against Wiscy or Iowa, and lose in playoff semi-final.
>>
>>68259368
Using a logically and scientifically infallible method, I've come up with a list of blue bloods every bit as legitimate (if not more) than yours.

DEFINITIVE BLUE BLOOD TIER

Penn State

Ole Miss
UCLA
Navy

Texas got a natty in 05, USC in 04. ND has gone to a natty.

The only school that would stick out is Michigan, but even they went to a BCS bowl and won in '11. Nebraska has done fuck all. That's the argument I understand fully. Nebraska is the outlier in terms of mediocrity.

The only reason I would still include Nebraska was 9 and 10-win seasons was considered mediocre to them, hence why Pelini was ousted. Blue Bloods do not settle, which Nebraska has shown they are not willing to do. Nebraska has been consistently mediocre-to-good, while Michigan, Texas, and ND have had periods of being complete and utter trash, while Nebraska has only 3 losing seasons the past 50 years, which is still impressive.

I'm not going to pretend Riley is going to turn them around, if Riley turns Nebraska into trash a la 2012-2014 Michigan, then I'd say Nebraska is done.

The other games have no bearing on 1995 Nebraska.

How is one player your Trump card? 1995 Nebraska had an entire backfield of unstoppable running backs and a quarterback who could outrun Vince Young, and 2001 Miami had 17 first-rounders.

2005 Texas wouldn't even find the endzone against those teams.
>>
>>68260790
Riley leaving, which will never make sense to me.
He wasn't Todd Graham or something. He'd been at OSU a while and had consistently overachieved there. Why, of all times, did he suddenly decide then that he'd like to move up? And what about his time at OSU made him think he could take on cleaning up the mess that was Nebraska? It was a loss for everyone involved.
>>
>>68260799
The baseball team got hit hard by injuries. Two pitchers that were slated to start on the weekends were out before the season started, and the Friday ace was shutdown during the second week of conference play. There was no viable backup catcher, so the Johnny Bench Finalist had to catch every game from the end of February to the end of the season, including midweeks and doubleheaders. He got worn down his bat was gone by May. And all that said, they finished 5th in conference. And of course the second baseman had to get hurt before the series against oregon, and his bat was needed in the worst way.

Women's basketball by not matter, but damn it feels nice to see Oregon State beat oregon, regardless the sport or gender. oregon's high ranking recruiting classes makes me think that the wins won't com easily as duck fans claim the football wins do.

I just want to see the Beavers beat the ducks, doesn't matter the sport. It just makes life better.
>>
>>68260870
Riley's last two seasons at Oregon State were losing seasons, and he hadn't beaten the ducks since 2007 when oregon had half of their players out for injuries that season. Chip Kelly was running circles around Riley, and it became apparent that his coaching staff couldn't adjust to the spread-option offenses that were abound in college football.

Oh, and he lost to Sacramento State and Eastern Washington, FCS schools. Is there another Power 5 program that would keep a coach around that has lost to 2 FCS schools at home?
>>
>>68260926
Well of course he was. Chip Kelly was a way better coach than Mike Riley. He probably wasn't ever gonna beat Oregon again until Kelly left.

But you're Oregon State. You have to realize your limitations. You weren't going to get anyone much better than him. If there was someone out there that they thought they had a shot at, it might make sense, but that candidate just wasn't there.
>>
>>68260993
But who loses twice to FCS schools? That sort of thing should never be accepted.
