Lol no
And his time was done on the supersofts.
McLaren Honda are not progressing fast enough compared to the other teams anyways.
>>67652744
Old Zandvoort was my favorite track when playing on my PC. Watching real life onboard laps there was fucking amazing. It was so fucking fast and you needed to have good skills to not fuck up. If I was a millionaire I would definitely pay for at least a partial reconstruction of the old track and a F1 tier runoff areas and shit.
>>67652799
Really? It looks a bit too fiddly, especially for F1. But I've never driven on it in a sim or seen a race there so I can't really tell. Pic related is what looks to me as the best layout, although after the chicanes was alright too IMO.
>>67652744
it was impossible before, but since prince bernhard jr is the new owner anything could happen. He's a racer himself and does really want to get f1 back.
Formule 1

>>67652845
>It looks a bit too fiddly, especially for F1
by small i meant straights are too short and some corners are too close together, but that description works too i guess. new zandvoort is perfect for formula 3 and i'm sure for gp3/fr3.5 cars also, but when you get to formula 1 speeds it does seem a bid fiddly.
>>67652845

>>67652870
Nice didn't know they got a new owner, they would still have to do massive renovations, etc. tho and the cost to just hosting a race is already sky high. We can hope tho.
>>67652845
>>67652887
The new circuit has more resemblance to Spa in my opinion. I liked the old more as well, just that simplicity of it.

The problem isn't raising the funds to organize an F1 race (around 30 mil if I remember), but the huge amount of money and time it would cost to get the infrastructure around the circuit fit to host 100k people. The 2 N-roads are unfit to handle that, and there's also a huge lack of parking space. Since it's all protected nature it would require years of lobbying to get the approval for expanding the infrastructure and the province would have to pump in millions. By that time our dear friend Max might be a potato already.

i just can't see how it would be a good decision for his career, unless Ferrari spends his tokens to somehow surpass the mercs. He got cucked so hard by schumi and by his own team so much with developmental cars, I just can't see how after all this time he would want to quit, when he has a dominant car.
I think Pérez or Magnussen could be his replacements.
>>67655154
hardly surprising considering the so called supersoft would probably cover the entire race distance
>>67655352
Monaco is a shit circuit that it's only in the calendar because Muh nostalgia, an undercut could help red bull only after the first pit stop, but if rosberg or hamilton have a quick start nad can distance themselves in the first chicane it could be useless.
Monaco 2016 was an inside job
>>67655472
If he was even accepted by Ferrari. If they can get nearly any driver on the grid why would they take Rosberg when kiki does the role that Ferrari want of their number 2. I don't see it and I can't see Rosberg throwing away the title this year. If he does he may as well go to DTM.
Does Magnussen bring sponsorship? Perez will probably want out of Force India but the grid feels so stagnant that I don't know where they'd go. Besides Grosjean thinks he's getting the Ferrari drive so I would be more sensible for Mercedes and Rosberg to stay together.
Can't wait to see what crazy "racing incident" Hamilton gets into next :^)

I went to see the Belgian GP at Spa-Francorchamps, and the the British GP in Silverstone last year.
Sometimes I wear it in public and my friends and family would never care about for the cap or Verstappen.
Now, when I wear the cap everyone is like woooow verstappen did you see the race?!?!
Then the so called normies act like they know everything about Formula 1 and Max Verstappen and I've been watching it since 1991.
Verstappen memes popping up everywhere and this is just not a good feel at all.
Cognitive dissonance is a bitch.
That being said, here's a mad amx meme. Totally sarcastic, of course.

And I'm not entirely sure, when I was a kid I used to watch F1 but I had no idea of anything because no one else but me watched it in the family.
The first season I remember kinda ok is the Hakkinen years.
After that the ones I remember the most were the Schumi, JPM, Kimi, ones, followed obviously by the rest.
I didn't pay much attention in 2008 because it was my final year in high school and it was kinda hard.
I remember very clearly the time Kimi got fucked by the mclaren in the last lap, when Button got his first win, Alonso winning, JPM and his fucking comments, etc.

I'm 19. Started watching F1 with my dad. My first memorie of the sport was Trulli crashing. Dont know when or were, but it was in a blue car, son it was in either 98 or 99. Spent most of my childhood playing Grand Prix 3 and F1 Challenge. Started actually watching F1 in the last races of 2006. It really shocked me when my dad told me that Minardi and Jordan were no longer in F1. 2007 was my first whole season, an the best I've ever seen. Started watching most races of all seasons of the 80s and 90s two years ago.
>>67660731
23.
Been watching it since 5 years old with my dad (went to argie GP in 1998) specially when Tuero and Mazzashit were there. We were also argentinian Turismo Carretera fans, so even if there wasn't any F1 still every sunday was a race day. After tuero and mazzashit quit F1 my dad stopped watching so i kept watching it by myself. even the fucked up time zone ones, my mom would program the VCR so i could watch them when i woke up.
i'm actually grateful /f1/ exists because none of my friends like F1, neither at work, so this is the only place where i can find people to discuss it. My gf didnt like it either but with time she grew fond of it and now she watches the races with me, even if it means waking up pretty early. i really appreciate that.

>>67665651
HOLD THE FUCK UP, I'VE GOT THIS.
I think they would like to keep Kimi unless Rosberg wins the WDC, and if he doesn't but is cheaper than Kimi, it may happen.
But if Rosberg wins and stays at Merc (since him and Merc are already talking about his 2017 contract) because he's less of a diva than Hamilton, where would Hamilton go? Ferrari? But I seriously doubt Ferrari want Hamilton's public.
Then, Kimi could either go to Merc (dat chinese market) or retire, or if Alonso moves to Merc, he could go to McLaren to replace Alonso and Button goes to Williams while Vandoorne takes his place. That said, Kimi said he would retire after Ferrari, but we never know because money talks and maybe Mintu likes more money.
That said, there's Wehrlein. Would Merc like to bring him in already to replace on of the leaving drivers? or would they rather keep him at manor for one more season?
Then Bottas, he's not great but he's not bad, is there a chance for him to go to a bigger team?
Also Perez, he's not great but besides the RB guys and Bottas, there's no one else filling the "alright driver" role, so there's a chance for him to move up back again to a bigger team, especially with the Mexican Tele company.

China might have set it off in terms of timing.

But redbull is known for its harsh decisions and well, the results speak for themselves atm.

Alonso has a three-year contract with McLaren and he earns 35 million per year. Mercedes will never ever pay 35 million per year for a driver, let alone for such an old driver like Alonso who has maybe 1 or 2 more good seasons in him.
As for Kimi, i'm sure he would rather retire after this year instead of going to some other team for a lot less pay than what he's getting at Ferrari now (and they already reduced his pay from 2015 to 2016).
Bottas is basically Heidfeld 2.0 by now, he's good enough to be a long-term F1 driver but he will never make it as a top-tier driver. 2015 was his best chance to win something and he didn't deliver. He's irrelevant for the top teams when there's so much younger talent like Verstappen, Sainz, Vandoorne, Wehrlein etc.
Now the one thing that nobody talked about yet is Ricciardo, with Verstappen being Marko's and Mateschitz's new favourite boy i'm sure he thought about joining another team, however he signed a contract for 2017 before this season started so that'll be in 2018 at the earliest.

>>67673767
People call Kimi a pussy for not trying to pass amx but he never had a real chance. You could see he was really struggling with grip in the final corner and just couldn't get the power down.
He was smart not to make an attempt because it would have been at least as bad of a dive bomb as Ricciardo on Vettel and I somewhat doubt amx would be as ready to jump out of the way to avoid an accident (not that he should, he is entitled to turn into the corner).
Can you imagine the disappointment if Kimi and amx took each other out, leading to yet another Vettel win? I was rooting for Kimi but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't extremely pleased to see AMD AMX's first win.

>>67673861
this, so much, I get annoyed by people saying he should've tried, VES got a great exit in the last corner and made sure he was ±0.6sec or something behind so with DRS at the end of the straight it would be like ±.3sec, which is too far away
>>67673861
max said it was pretty much like racing on ice. he was also mostly working on tyre management the last 15 laps, I assume it was the same for Kimi. Any real attempt to pass would've surely made either or both crash. 30+ laps on one set of mediums is a serious gamble. It's also why Tricky Ricky fans should shut up about RB promoting max, they split tactics to match Ferrari and max could've easily fucked up (and I really dig the bully, would've been nearly as happy to see him win)
want a claire williams gf
>>67674126
I think every reasonable fan can see that it was a risky, classic split, strategy. Having the two separate races (Ric vs. Vet, Ves vs. Rai) was the best chance both teams had to win the race. That way they were both covered if they longer strategy failed like you say and two teammates weren't sitting behind one another or battling among themselves losing time.
I think most of the backlash comes from the fact that people think Red Bull knew that the two-stop was the best strategy and gave it to Max knowing it would leave him in the best position. That's a bit tin-foil hat for me, especially as no one that weekend had gone that far on the mediums yet, but I can see why people would consider it a possibility.
>>67674078
Yeah I'm not trying to take away from Max here, he knew where he had to be just a bit faster in order to defend his position.

>>67674220

Yeah, I'm sure they did, it was also the most risky one. I remember reading once that max is fantastic on tyre management and Ricky isn't, which might have been the reasoning they picked max for the riskier strategy.
In the end, all that didn't matter to me. The most important was that we've had a seriously exciting race, the mercedes double whammy was the best thing that could happen and i'm hyped for Monaco. I'd be happy with a RB/Ferrari/Merc triple team podium, no matter who gets up there in the end. With the RB engine update in canada or monaco, ferrari possibly getting their shit together and more drama between firstberg and chocosenna it could actually be a real good season.
>>67674351
Yeah I just mean people who are calling for conspiracy believe that Red Bull knew there was very little chance it would backfire, but I personally think, as you say, that wasn't the case.
The race was extremely exciting for me while watching live, seriously one of the most on-edge viewing experiences in a long time. I watched it again yesterday and it was actually a fairly dull race all in all, certainly no Imola 2005. I don't think it will go down as a classic but fuck it was fun to watch, not knowing how it was going to end.
This season almost certainly will be a great one. Every race we have had so far has been either drama-filled, full of action, or both, which is very rare considering we are already five races in and have already been to some of the most lackluster tracks around (Sochi, Catalunya, Shanghai) . With such a large point gap between Rosberg and Hamilton there's surely plenty more to come. Add in upgrades to Ferrari and in particular Red Bull to hopefully make them within touching distance or at least equivalent to one another and I am very optimistic.

Compared to last year they have been quite good.
>Australia
8/10
Good battles in the mid-field, dramatic crash, Ferrari hype, Haas 6th place, Vettel chasing Hamilton, Sainz fighting with Verstappen.
>Bahrain
7.5/10
First lap drama, lots of mid-field passing back and forth, Ham fighting back from early setback, close margins coming out of the pits, Vandoorne points for McLaren
>China
7.5/10
Polarizing first lap incident, mad Vettel radio, Hamilton in big trouble, Ricciardo leading before puncture, Lewis trying to pass Massa, Bottas, and Raikkonen, Kvyat podium.
>Russia
6-7/10
Another dramatic and polarizing first lap incident, extremely mad Vettel radio, more close racing for position directly out of the pits, Kimi, Hamilton, and Bottas battles, initial excitement of Ham chasing Rosberg before water pressure problem
>Spain
9/10 (live, anyways)
Collision between the two title contenders on first lap (had me off my feet). Not much actual action but I can't remember the last time, with 20 laps left to go, there were 4 drivers in clear contention for the win. Bully dive-bomb pass followed by even more mad Vettel radio. Kvyat keeping pace with Vettel and Ricciardo while on fresher tires. And of course AMD AMX.
Maybe you have different priorities than me but as far as I'm concerned this year has been pretty entertaining.

There's been a lot of accidents in the first laps this season and a lot of them happening to key players (Vettel most of all) top that with Lewis's penalty shits and you get a pretty exciting season. I agree 2016 isn't the worst tho! But a lot of the action is still in the first and last couple of laps, with not much happening in between.
I watched Spain on Monday, and I already knew Max was going to win, so that was a bummer. But if you saw the race like that, it wasn't too exiting. Just the Mercedes incident and the last couple of laps with the two Ferrari-RedBull battles. In between there was nothing.

22, got memories of F1 probably since I was 4 or 5.
It's been a family thing kinda. My older brother was biggest car and autosports fan between all of us, but died 8 years ago because of fucking cancer. Eventually I watched less, with my parents still watching grand prixs in the background while I kept myself occupied with different things (I couldn't bother the LOLHAMILTONWINS anymore). Than Amx showed up and now I'm back to watching it again. His victory got us all in tears last weekend. Around the start of the race, did my mom mention how she 'asked' my brother to help Max out during the race, hoping for a podium and even more. Therefore it was a pretty bizarre moment, when he actually won (I'm not really superstitious or believe in clairvoyance etc. but it was quite the special sensation)
Sorry for the blog post
>Mercedes want to alleviate driver tensions
>thinking about replacing Rosberg with FERNANDO FUCKING ALONSO
what could go wrong
Anyway I'm pretty sure that all this rumor talk about switching teams etc is just public bargaining for a higher paycheck between Rosberg and Mercedes. Rosberg doesn't seem to actually want to leave at all as he's been with the team forever, and maybe the only reason he would want to leave is to get rid of Hamilton as a teammate. He just wants more money now that he appears to be a serious contender for Hamilton and Hamilton is getting paid considerably more.
Ferrari probably welcome it as well because it makes it appear that Kimi isn't disposable so Kimi can't start requesting crazy money again. And if everything goes to shit then they could probably actually start considering a mover like Rosberg. Not that that would ever happen because no one likes Rosberg and having 2 Germans isn't a good thing. Plus Ferrari is all about dat marketing and sales shit now that they are listed in the exchange etc
Alonso would also be a retard to leave McLaren at this point. My predictions is that the lineups will mostly stay the same for next year in the big teams except Button will retire to make way for Vandoorne and Massa might retire (perhaps replaced by Button according to some rumors and history or a younger driver)

>>67676817

>>67676817
alonso is cool though
>>67676817
if mercedes want no driver tensions there's legit only one driver in the current grid who has demonstrated enough pace to, were they driving the wo7, be merc's barrichello - slow enough not to challenge the #1 driver but quick enough to secure a 2nd or 3rd place finish every race
and that driver is valerie bottoms
>>67676817
>and sales shit now
I think they could keep gimi only because of that, he's the face in the chinese market, which was the strongest for ferrari in recent years.
Button said he would retire after mclaren, dunno if williams has a nice offer because he won't get a championship tier car with them.
That said, he divorced Jessica, so maybe it'd be good for him to keep him distracted.
>>67676817
really hope sainz gets to drive for a better team
>>67677110
Who'd make place for him? there's clearly no room upstairs at RB.
I just wonder how much of this team rivalry turning into team-haters is actually true or at least relevant.
shit gets blown out of proportion by everyone, especially the brits are very good at finding the slightest hint of nothing and making it a huge story or potentially.
same with amx and saint, press constantly underlining their 'issues' but both remain pretty cool, going for drinks, karting, having fun.
but still when amx got promoted press was like 'omg dodged that bullet!'
bloody hell man, all the fucking wishfull-drama.
same here desu, as if Rosberg would leave Mercedes because he dislikes Hamilton kek.
or Alonso and Hamilton not being able to work as rivalries on a professional level. kek!
its not a soap opera despite what media and hysteric fans try to make from it.
and yes I know, its always been like this (on the surface)
anyways, amx world champ 2017 to 2030. even dutchies will get bored by it. screenshot this. everything I said is the truth.
>>67677324

Will he try Nascar again when he retires? or rather stay as a Ferrari driver for GT and the like around.
>>67677941
Probably. There was some rumor out of Finland last month that he was going to NASCAR literally next year, but I doubt it's that soon.
Is it true? Is MSC dead?

If Vettel was on the two-stop instead of Gimi would he have won?
>>67679383
it's what he gets for selling his soul to the motorsport gods. everything has a price
>>67679493
I doubt it, kimi did not lack skill or determination, I think he was realistic in knowing his limits. same limits for vettel I presume.
Maybe in the scenario that vettel took better care of his tires then kimi did and created more room to attack with at some point. but no idea how they match up in the department.
I want to know why ricciardo did not capitalize on better traction last turn to attack vettel as amx capitalized it in defending.
surely he should have been able to?
or maybe its a matter of clean air for amx vs dirty air for ricciardo. we know how super sensitive these cars are.

Nah michael is more like the messiah sent to earth by the motorsport gods to herald the holy word and ski'ified as a sacrifice to achieve atonement. He will however rise again one day.

It's just the nature of the Barcelona track. Its impossible to follow a car through the final corner because its a fast one and everyone who follows gets understeer like crazy which basically kills your speed down the straight. It's also just about the only real overtake opportunity in a situation where the car in front doesn't make a mistake. It's not the first time it has happened, it happened last year, it happened with Maldonado and Alonso etc. It's just extremely difficult to overtake and the car in front has a huge advantage coming to the straight.
In this sense Max was smart because he just maximized the exit of that corner and focused on not making a mistake there, and Kimi was "smart" in the sense that he didn't try a crazy divebomb on le divebomb kid (can you imagine the outrage if Kimi took out Max and himself from the lead?). Its a bit frustrating to see him "not try" but I guess he knows very well when there is a reasonable chance of overtaking and when there isn't. He could have done something like Ricciardo tried and kill himself or Max or his tires which he didn't
I do think Kimi and the Ferraris were faster for 2/3rds of the lap with Red Bull having an advantage in the final sector where it counts.
>>67681148
Yeah, in one of the post-race interviews Kimi said that he could've tried to do an overtake but that it probably wouldn't end up nice for either driver.
mad amx

>>67684230
But why? Makes no sense from Mercs pespective.
Hamilton won't leave Mercedes until the second they become uncompetitive. At that point he is going to take a "strategic sabbatical" or somehow jew himself into the next dominant team.
>>67677110
Could see him at a cheeky Force India, though I'm not sure if its an upgrade. Maybe Alonso will hook him up a sweet deal at McLaren once he retires but who knows.
Hulkenberg is as good as done with F1 and really doesn't even to even care too much at this point.
Too many good drivers, too few good seats. 4 car teams when?

Probably a good thing though because otherwise the past 2 years would have been MWL triple podiums all the way with the top 4 being Mercs in almost every race which might have actually been enough to make me stop watching
>>67672383
Just introduce the Indycar rule where if you are the first lapped car you can aggressively defend your position in order to prevent yourself from going 1 lap down

would be memetastic. Rahal basically lost a race because of this rule a few weeks ago

I never understood this either. Why did they make this a thing? Probably yet another one of those things the FIA didn't think through when they made the DRS rules. Like in it's first season when there was DRS everywhere in qualifying. That was clearly something they didn't intend to happen.
