If everything goes as usual (opposite of Spain), Mercedes will take 1-2. The final podium place is up for grabs and it will be between Red Bull and Ferrari. Qualifying is crucial, almost deciding. Sure, Bully or AMX might get a podium, but so might Gimi or Pingpong.
Race should be dry.

Fair enough, I figured the same, I'm very curious how RBR and Ferrari compare in Monaco.

Here you can see the difference between one of the greats and a complete idiot.
Unlike Hamilton, Häkkinen backs off and on the next lap pulls an overtake that is still talked about.
Who /haas/ here?
>>67632983
I expect Ferrari to nick it from Red Bull. Ferrari was already better last year and now they've abandoned the awful pull-rod suspension, Vettel and Räikkönen will like the handling more and be more competitive. Also, should be more cloudier and cooler than Spain so suits Ferrari.

Friendly reminder that the incident wouldn't have happened and even Hamilton wouldn't be so crazy to attempt something like that if he wasn't so visibly concerned over the fact that he is getting destroyed in the championship and likely won't win it this year. If he was leading the championship, he would not have taken such a risk.
I personally am enjoying seeing a paniced and nervous Hamilton. He's only like 2 races away from the longest winless streak in his entire career.

It's popular but generally with older people. Moving it onto a mega jew paychannel package (thats getting more and more expensive every year) really hurt its popularity along with the fact that Kimi has been varying levels of shit post-WDC. Wouldn't say its hugely popular with younger people though and the only person I talk to about F1 is my dad lol
I can't believe Kimi is actually second in the championship in a season with 2 Mercs and Vettel as a teammate. He would actually still be ahead of Vettel if Vettel finished Sochi, or even if Vettel finished 3rd in Sochi instead of Kimi. the absolute madman

I'm not against him or him being black but he has said that his dad "sold" him to McLaren and sponsors as a child as "the first black driver in F1" and played this up a lot, as an opportunity to help a black driver make it all the way to Formula 1 etc. Obviously it helped that he was quick in the car but Hamilton's father very clearly used the blackness to an advantage. Not that I blame him and I'm just saying if he was a white driver who's good with no backing he would probably end up like they generally do.

The only things I miss from the old era: the sound of V10s, the look of the cars (will be fixed next year), cars being absolute monsters in corners (will be fixed next year), drivers being able to push from start to finish (will be fixed next year) and challenging circuits with gravel traps.
Btw, the only reason they don't have gravel traps as much as before is that the cars will roll more easily on gravel... why does it matter if the car rolls? The car is still slowing down and the drivers is well protected. I just want them to get rid of the parking lots surrounding the tracks. At least put some gravel/grass outside the white lines and then asphalt behind it.
>>67633637
Yea they commentate from Helsinki for most of the races, have some very basic analysis compared to say Sky. >>67633710
>why does it matter if the car rolls?
Because then the car is in an uncontrollable and unpredictable situation.
It might dig in and flip into the fence or over the tecpro or back into the gravel upside down submarining the driver.
With tarmac you crash and just slide into the tecpro. You might hit it faster but the tecpro is designed for that.
It's better for circuit designers and the FIA to design around things that are known and can be simulated in programs which gives them reliable results rather than relying on anecdotal evidence and hope.
>>67633886

The problem is the only companies with enough money to spend what Formula 1 currently costs are the auto manufacturers, and they care less about entertaining race fans and more about whether there's a marketing tie-in that works for them.
What sold cars, gasoline, cigarettes, and booze 20-30-40 years ago is irrelevant in an era when people are becoming less and less interested in cars at all.
In the not too distant future auto racing will be contested between self-driving electric cars.

>no overtaking except through pit lane
>cars couldn't follow each other well at all

>>67634897
Yeah, but it would probably require a more complicated tool. I have no idea how they measure it nowadays, there's no holes in the Pirellis, right?

>>67634945
No but they have bars at the side to measure the wear I think
>>67634945
I'm not sure actually, I'm guessing they have the tools to do this easily available to them now, or tire performance so important now the effort is worth it.
>>67634964

>>67634908
This. There NEEDS to be a punishment for running wide, be it a gravel trap or grass. Maybe even an astroturf sort of thing that is designed to have no grip at all. Of course some safetycuck is going to argue that this will cause too many accidents but whatever.
The problem is biggest at tilkedromes and e.g. the best strategy into T2 at Sochi during the start would be to break just a bit and go intentionally wide and bypass the whole start mess and breeze through the huge asphalt section and rejoin into T3 without even breakign the rules. Like what Alonso and Hamilton ended up doing

>>67634971
>implying 2004-2008 were not one some the best seasons ever

That's exactly why they don't have the gravel traps anymore - safety. And the teams probably prefer it too because it means they're less likely to be out of a race.
>>67634908
Yeah, I think that would be the best solution
>>67634738
pic related? Just an idea, don't know if it would have been even possible. Also keeping that bare concrete wall in a high speed corner was retarded. Senna would be alive today if a good tire wall would have been there.
Anyway, even post-1994 Imola was still a GOAT tier track
>>67635350
you'd still need runoff/gravel on the exit of tamburello
>>67635131
>There NEEDS to be a punishment for running wide
Very much what drivers from earlier eras have said for a while. Safety is essential, but making the sport so safe there aren't any consequences for poor driving leads to its own driver dangers and is damaging to the sport itself.
It would be easy to do, either with a low-tech solution (e.g., some kind of coating that would stick to the tires but not decrease traction drastically, stewards see the paint instant penalty) or high-tech (recognition cameras that automatically apply a HP reduction for a time if they capture a car in the "off track" section).

But yeah it might be a bit over exaggerating. On the other hand people seem to be really happy about it and what is wrong with that in the end
>>67635131
>>67635568
I can't remember where I read it, but someone once suggested putting tire barriers a short distance from the track to discourage running wide, and all the gravel you'd regularly need to have behind the tires
it would also stop Alonso-esque crashes as the impact with the tires would not only slow the car down significantly but they would drag along the gravel and scrub off speed even quicker
>>67635697
Penalties in the sense of immediate and real consequences.
For example, a really easy to implement one would be loss of HP for some number of seconds, or perhaps not being able to use DRS on the next lap.
Do all Finnish girls age this bad?
All of this talk about safety seems so excessive considering that if you drive like you should and follow the rules its almost impossible to kill yourself in a F1 car. If you can walk away from Alonso and Kubica-tier crashes without dying then I would say the safety requirements for the cars are on point.

Another important thing to remember about driver safety: now that drivers are multi-million dollar animals team ownership wants them protected, just as they would one of their expensive racehorses.
While risk and danger may be important to the hoi polloi, racing has passed the point where owners will allow serious risks to their driver investment.
And since teams are now much more closely associated with auto manufacturers, and safety and efficiency - not speed - sells cars, those manufacturers don't want their brands tarnished by dead or maimed drivers.

Formula 1 is about money and exclusivity far more than it's about cars and racing, and since Monaco is where Europe's monied elite congregate to avoid taxes and bask in the sun (in that order) Monaco has the highest ratio of wealthy to worthless attendees.
The race also has a bit of history and the setting's not too shabby, either.
In a way, Monaco has prestige for the reason the other Triple Crown races have prestige: those were the races racers most wanted to win, and they all tried that little bit harder, and celebrated that little bit more. After enough years the momentum of the extra intention and emotional energy sustains itself.
The difference in atmosphere at the Triple Crown races - Monaco, Indianapolis, Le Mans - is indeed palpable.

Seems like he's quite pleased with the development of the team after Arrivabene's entry. Said that they had "two of the best if not _the_ best drivers in their garage".
What I'm curious about is how much teams focus on this year's car and how much some shift towards 2017 with new rules and regulations yet again.
Didn't some team actually vote whether they should essentially drop development of this year's car? Fuck, can't remember which one.

That depends on a lot of things really.
Maybe the amount of money needed to improve this year's car compared to the actual increase in performance is too big.
Some team might feel that whatever they have this year is good enough depending on the other teams around them.

They absolutely werent.
If you ignore the lack of a title race we have now and just look at the on track action, you could rewatch the old races and based on fuel loads and the absolute lack of overtaking, predict the top 10 with very good accuracy, and that's not entertaining.
We have something good now, just need some better tyes that can be pushed and everyone else to catch up to Mercedes. Extending the wings, which are the main reason the cars can't follow each other, is going to undo all of that even if the cars end up much faster. The 2004 cars had stupid cornering speeds, to the point that the drivers were saying it was getting too fast, and it was a very uneventful season.

Loved these white elements on a red Ferrari.
F2002 is probably my favorite Ferrari of them all. The car from the season when I started to follow F1. F2002 is prety much The F1 Car for me, the definition of what it looks, drives and sounds like. Also, 2002 was basically the last season with sturdy side skirts on cars. It was before curves truly shaped the cars anew. The gills on 2003 Ferraris and Saubers, and curves on Renault R24 were the main talking points during the pre-season of the coming seasons, so the cars changed.

Can't with the new superlicense.
Verstappen's records (youngest driver to enter/drive/get points/etc) from last season cannot be beaten unless they change the rules again.
As you probably know, /f1/, Max Verstappen has won a race. Yes, Max Verstappen. The pizza-faced virgin. The boy who's barely old enough to drink. The autist who divebombs like a maniac, ruins his tires, and then rages anytime he can't get passed somebody, crying like his froggy face still needs mommy's nips. Don't think for a second Mikaela will provide hers.
You all know him.
That said, how does it make you feel that mad amx is a Formula 1 race winner and Bottas is still not? How does it feel that he was able to invalidate the cuck Daniil's entire career after just one race, regardless of whether or not you think he's just a Maldonado-tier one off.
>inb4 muh Mercerdes
Even if they were out of the race, he still had to beat the four time World Champion Vettel and the high-functioning alcoholic Raikkonen, not to mention bullying the bully. Face it, no matter how many hours they put in the simulator, no other driver on the circuit this year will ever come close to mad amx in terms of raw talent. After Red Bull experiences a massive sales boon from this win, they will develop a truly competitive car. He won't even need Mercedes or Ferrari. I hope you're ready for at least two decades of Dutch domination, VWL 2.0 is upon us.

>>67647730
You have some very bad opinions there.
Is Kimi done? Will he ever be elite again or is resigned to full Barrichello mode for the rest of his career?
>>67647823
He's been full Barrichello mode since the middle of 2008. Once he got that title it's like he didn't really give much of a fuck anymore. There's a lot more dumb mistakes than earlier in his career and you don't get much of an impression that he really pushes.
It's really fucking frustrating to watch because I like him and I like Ferrari. When he applies himself he's immensely talented and can be the fastest car on track by a decent margin almost on a whim. When he doesn't you get incidents like getting lost at Interlagos or changing into street clothes and eating ice cream at Malaysia when every other driver was still ready to go and watching the conditions in case there was a restart.

> Räikkönen had a long line of success in karting from the age of ten.
> His first race outside Finland was in Monaco when he was 15 years old. During the race, the steering wheel broke, but he continued, informing his mechanic by frantically waving the steering wheel in the air on the home straight.
> Räikkönen's next Monaco race was also memorable; he was thrown on the wrong side of the safety fence in a first lap collision but continued driving until running out of road. Undeterred, he lifted his kart back onto the track and continued to race.
> His mechanic thought Räikkönen had retired, but he eventually caught up with the other competitors and finished third.

> Toto Wolff says it is a "priority" to negotiate a new deal with championship leader Nico Rosberg.
> The German, whose seven-race winning streak ended in Barcelona, is reportedly out of contract at the end of the season.
> But Dieter Zetsche, the chairman of Mercedes' carmaker parent Daimler, declared at Barcelona at the weekend that "Both drivers are under contract for the forthcoming season".
> In fact, that might not be quite true, with team boss Wolff indicating there is still some negotiating to do.
> When asked about Fernando Alonso's recent claim that he almost switched to Mercedes at the beginning of last year, Wolff answered: "Fernando explored his options and one of them was Mercedes.
> "He spoke to us, but we could not negotiate as we promised Lewis that while we tried to renew his (Hamilton) deal we would not talk with other drivers and we did not," Wolff told the Spanish newspaper El Mundo.
> "Fernando is one of the best drivers in history and I like his character, but our priority now is Nico.
> "If he (Rosberg) does not want to renew, then we will consider other options, like Fernando. His (Alonso's) age is not a problem -- his speed and his motivation are still there," he added.

Our session beers and common beers are average to crap; we have some quite excellent microbreweries but largely they stick to the pale ale/IPA and pilsener end of the spectrum. There's some pretty neat dark ales, porters and others out of some of them but not in huge volume.
>>67650624
They aren't, just like Heineken isn't in the Netherlands. It's just the mainstream pilsener. My point is that the most sold beer in Belgium (Jupiler and Stella) really aren't any better than Heineken. They can't even taste the difference: >>67650630

I know what Jupiler and Stella are like; dickheads here think they're drinking a Belgian beer when it's usually licensed brewed Stella or at best Belgian imported Stella; Jupiler is little better. Heineken, ironically, I don't knock too much because it's very bankable from place to place across the world as a known quantity.
But my point is that Belgium's reputation for beer doesn't come from that end of the scale; people who think it does don't matter, people who know better don't go near Stella or Jupiler.
>>67650693
I don't see why they expanded the list beyond seven Trappist breweries, personally...

The Flemish F1 commentators sure seem to think so. This last race was truly unwatchable. I don't even know what else was going on in the race. Nothing else but Amd "The Dutch Belgian" Amx was mentioned. To make things even worse, they ended the F1 broadcast even before Amx had gotten out of his car..

But the sportsman thinks he's goat too, I imagine partly because of the constant dick sucking of everyone around him. In his mind he hasn't done a single wrong move/action in any of his races.
-His dive bombs were video game moves, but he thinks that's just brilliant racing.
-He thought Sainz should have just moved over in Australia, while he himself would never do that, even when asked by the team (Singapore 2015).
-Grosjean brake tested him in Monaco 2015, amx did nothing wrong..

Arguably, yeah. He's not a slow driver and Catalunya is the perfect track to not feel super pressured about getting passed, so you can focus on keeping your own pace up. That's not to take away from amx's win, just my opinion.

Spa and Zandvoort are both goat tier, they could replace zandvoort for nearly any track apart from Spa and it would be better. I really hope max is going to be super succesful the coming years if only to bring zandvoort back in the running for f1.
Zolder and Assen are also both dope.
