If a player is being intentionally walked, why don't they ever swing on what would be ball 3 or 4? You could make the pitcher have to throw an extra pitch, and just the unexpected nature of doing so could probably fluster a scrub reliever. Plus, if there's a runner on, a manager could draw up a swing-and-run and nab the catcher or an infielder napping on a slow pitch

JBJ isn't going anywhere. Here's why: Dombrowski fucking loves him, and he even tried to trade for him while he was in Detroit (back while JBJ was sucking).
My guess is that Holt might be put on the table, or if not him, then a shit load of prospects will be used.
Dombrowski is not afraid to use prospects as trade pieces, as his track record shows.
I just hope he keeps Moncada and Benintendi. I'd let anyone else go.

They'll be more likely to keep Vazquez even though Swihart has a better bat, teams won't want to take a chance on CV re-aggravating his shoulder. Plus, should he return to full form, Vazquez becomes the best defensive catcher in the league for a long, long time.

Well they aren't "untouchable" that kind of mentality gets us no where, I just think Dombrowski won't listen to any calls about them if the price they offer isn't absurdly high.
I think if a team would give up a #1 pitcher and some other doohickeys to go with for say, Mookie, I think DD would at least consider it.
Every player on this team is expendable, some just come at higher prices than others obviously.
I think that if he can find a suitor for Hanley willing to take the contract OR a suitor for Pedroia with a really high offer, he'd pull the trigger in a second, but I just don't think that's realistic to expect.
My guess is that he's going to reach into the prospect pool and move a player like Rafael Devers, a top 25 MLB prospect, with a bunch of other lesser prospects for a starting pitcher.
That's just my guess.
If I had to rank the starting 9 players on the roster he'd be willing to trade, I'd put it in this order respectively: Vazquez/Swihart, Pedroia, Hanley, Rutledge, Shaw, JBJ, Xander, Mookie, Ortiz (no way in hell management would allow it)
I dont think he'd trade Young, but I'd put him between Rutledge and Hanley at this point if he wanted to.
